The piston-type expander (PTE), as the primary output component, significantly influences the performance of an energy storage system. This paper proposes a non-cam variable valve actuation system for the PTE, supported by a mathematical model. An enhanced S-curve trajectory planning method is used to design the valve lift curve. The study investigates the effects of various valve lift design parameters on output power and efficiency at different rotational speeds, employing orthogonal design and SPSS Statistics 27 (Statistical Product and Service Solutions) simulations. A grey comprehensive evaluation method is used to identify optimal valve lift parameters for each speed. The results show that valve lift parameters influence PTE performance to varying degrees, with intake duration having the greatest effect, followed by maximum valve lift, while intake end time has the least impact. The non-cam PTE outperforms the cam-based PTE. At 800 rpm, the optimal design yields 7.12 kW and 53.5% efficiency; at 900 rpm, 8.17 kW and 50.6%; at 1000 rpm, 9.2 kW and 46.8%; and at 1100 rpm, 12.09 kW and 41.2%. At these speeds, output power increases by 18.37%, 11.42%, 11.62%, and 9.82%, while energy efficiency improves by 15.01%, 15.05%, 14.24%, and 13.86%, respectively. Full article

High-precision time–frequency systems are essential for low Earth orbit (LEO) navigation satellites to achieve real-time (RT) centimeter-level positioning services. However, subject to stringent size, power, and cost constraints, LEO satellites are typically equipped with oven-controlled crystal oscillators (OCXOs) as the system clock. The inherent long-term stability of OCXOs leads to rapid clock error accumulation, severely degrading positioning accuracy. To simultaneously balance multi-dimensional requirements such as clock bias accuracy, and frequency stability and phase continuity, this study proposes a linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) frequency precision steering method that integrates a four-dimensional constraint integrated (FDCI) model and hierarchical weight optimization. An improved system error model is refined to quantify the covariance components (Σ11, Σ22) of the LQG closed-loop control system. Then, based on the FDCI model that explicitly incorporates quantization noise, frequency adjustment, frequency stability, and clock bias variance, a priority-driven collaborative optimization mechanism systematically determines the weight matrices, ensuring a robust tradeoff among multiple performance criteria. Experiments on OCXO payload products, with micro-step actuation, demonstrate that the proposed method reduces the clock error RMS to 0.14 ns and achieves multi-timescale stability enhancement. The short-to-long-term frequency stability reaches 9.38 × 10−13 at 100 s, and long-term frequency stability is 4.22 × 10−14 at 10,000 s, representing three orders of magnitude enhancement over a free-running OCXO. Compared to conventional PID control (clock bias RMS 0.38 ns) and pure Kalman filtering (stability 6.1 × 10−13 at 10,000 s), the proposed method reduces clock bias by 37% and improves stability by 93%. The impact of quantization noise on short-term stability (1–40 s) is contained within 13%. The principal novelty arises from the systematic integration of theoretical constraints and performance optimization within a unified framework. This approach comprehensively enhances the time–frequency performance of OCXOs, providing a low-cost, high-precision timing–frequency reference solution for LEO satellites. Full article

Background: This study aims to compare the logistical challenges of Home Health Care (HHC) services in Portugal and Brazil, highlighting the structural and operational differences between both systems. Methods: Guided by an abductive research approach, data were collected using a semi-structured survey with open-ended questions, applied to 13 HHC teams in Portugal and 18 in Brazil, selected based on national coordination recommendations. The data collection process was conducted in person, and responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics and qualitative content analysis. Results: The results reveal that Portugal demonstrates higher productivity, stronger territorial coverage, and a more integrated inventory management system, while Brazil presents greater multidisciplinary team integration, more flexible fleet logistics, and more advanced digital health records. Despite these strengths, both countries continue to address key logistical aspects, such as scheduling, supply distribution, and data management, largely through empirical strategies. Conclusions: This research contributes to the theoretical understanding of international HHC logistics by emphasizing strategic and systemic aspects often overlooked in operational studies. In practical terms, it offers insights for public health managers to improve resource allocation, fleet coordination, and digital integration in aging societies. Full article

Barriers in Access to Healthcare Services in Greece Post-COVID-19: Persisting Challenges for Health Policy

Background/Objectives: Access to health services is often limited due to socio-economic and organizational determinants of health systems, which lead to increased unmet healthcare needs. This study aimed to identify access barriers for the general population in Greece, including those that may have emerged following the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This was a cross-sectional survey of 1002 Greek citizens. A questionnaire regarding socio-demographics, healthcare utilization, and access to health services was used. Interviews took place between October and November 2022. Results: Of 837 participants who used health services in 2022, 82.6% had a medical consultation, 80.6% took diagnostic tests, and 63.6% visited a pharmacy for pharmaceuticals. Of those having a medical consultation, 33.1% did so at an NHS health unit, while 75% of the participants taking diagnostic tests visited a contracted private laboratory. Out of the 135 participants requiring hospitalization, 62% were hospitalized in a public hospital, while 85% of the participants requiring pharmaceuticals visited a private pharmacy. Access barriers in the past year were reported by 48% of the participants requiring a medical consultation, 34% of the participants requiring diagnostic tests, and 40% of the participants requiring hospitalization. The most common barriers were long waiting times and financial constraints. The main barrier to accessing pharmaceuticals was the availability and administration of the product. Conclusions: The identified healthcare access barriers highlight the vulnerabilities of the current health system in Greece, which were further exposed during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. Addressing socioeconomic factors that are considered key access indicators should be the focus of future health policy initiatives. Full article

The concept of the circular economy aims to develop systems for reusing, recovering, and recycling products and services, pursuing both economic growth and sustainability. In many countries, legislation has been enacted to create frameworks ensuring environmental protection and fostering initiatives to implement the circular economy across various sectors. The wind energy industry is no exception, with industries and institutions adopting strategies to address the forthcoming challenge of repowering or dismantling a significant quantity of wind turbines in the coming years reaching a total of global wind power capacity by 2024. This also involves managing the resulting waste, which includes materials with high economic value as well as others that have considerable environmental impacts but that can be reused, recycled, or converted. In parallel, the research activity in this field has increased significantly in response to this challenge, leading to a vast body of work in the literature, especially in the last three years. The aim of this paper is to conduct a bibliometric study to provide a global perspective on the current literature in the field, covering the period from 2009 to 2024. A total of 670 publications were retrieved from Web of Science and Scopus, with 57% of them published in the last three years, highlighting the growing interest in the field. This study analyzes the research product, the most relevant journal, the most cited authors and institutions, their collaborative patterns, emerging trends, and gaps in the literature. This contribution will provide an up-to-date analysis of the field, fostering better understanding of the direction of the research and establishing a solid foundation for future studies Full article

The transition toward integrated urban–rural development represents a complex socio-technical challenge in post-poverty alleviation China. This study examines how the reform of agricultural service systems—especially the rollout of full-process socialization services—reshapes urban–rural integration by embedding new institutional, technological, and organizational structures into rural production. Drawing on staggered provincial pilot programs, we apply a double machine learning framework to assess the causal impact of service reform on the urban–rural income gap, labor reallocation, and agricultural productivity. Results show that agricultural socialization services enhance systemic efficiency by reducing labor bottlenecks, increasing technology diffusion, and fostering large-scale coordination in agricultural operations. These effects are most pronounced in provinces with stronger institutional capacity and higher levels of mechanization. The findings highlight agricultural service reform as a systemic intervention that alters resource allocation logics, drives institutional change, and fosters structural convergence across urban and rural domains. This research contributes to the understanding of agricultural modernization as a systems-engineered solution for regional inequality. Full article

Traditional intensive agricultural system impedes ecological functions, such as nutrient cycling and biodiversity conservation, resulting in excessive nitrogen discharge, CH4 emission, and ecosystem service losses. To enhance critical ecosystem services and mitigate environmental externalities in paddy fields, we developed a multi-objective agricultural system (MIA system), which combines two eco-functional units: paddy wetlands and Beitang (irrigation water collection pond). Pilot study results demonstrated that the MIA system enhanced biodiversity and inhibited pest outbreak, with only a marginal reduction in rice production compared with the control. Additionally, the paddy wetland effectively removed nitrogen, with removal rates of total nitrogen and dissolved inorganic nitrogen ranging from 0.06 to 0.65 g N m−2 d−1 and from 0.02 to 0.22 g N m−2 d−1, respectively. Continuous water flow in the paddy wetland reduced the CH4 emission by 84.4% compared with the static water conditions. Furthermore, a simulation experiment indicated that tide flow was more effective in mitigating CH4 emission, with a 68.3% reduction compared with the drying–wetting cycle treatment. The emergy evaluation demonstrated that the MIA system outperformed the ordinary paddy field when considering both critical ecosystem services and environmental externalities. The MIA system exhibited higher emergy self-sufficiency ratio, emergy yield ratio, and emergy sustainable index, along with a lower environmental load ratio. Additionally, the system required minimal transformation, thus a modest investment. By presenting the case of the MIA system, we provide a theoretical foundation for comprehensive management and assessment of agricultural ecosystems, highlighting its significant potential for widespread application. The ecosystem services (ESs) of forests are the benefits that people derive from forest ecosystems. Their precise recognition is important for differentiating and determining the optimal principles of multifunctional forest management. The aim of this study is to identify some important ESs based on a site classification system at the lowest level—i.e., forest stands, at the forest owner level—as a tool for differentiated management. ESs were assessed within the Czech Republic and are expressed in units in accordance with the very sophisticated Forest Site Classification System. (1) Biomass production: The vertical differentiation of ecological conditions given by vegetation tiers, which reflect the influence of altitude, exposure, and climate, provides a basic overview of biomass production; the highest value is in the fourth vegetation tier, i.e., the Fageta abietis community. Forest stands are able to reach a stock of up to 900–1200 m3·ha−1. The lowest production is found in the eighth vegetation tier, i.e., the Piceeta community, with a wood volume of 150–280 m3·ha−1. (2) Soil conservation function: Geological bedrock, soil characteristics, and the geomorphological shape of the terrain determine which habitats serve a soil conservation function according to forest type sets. (3) The hydricity of the site, depending on the soil type, determines the hydric-water protection function of forest stands. Currently, protective forests occupy 53,629 ha in the Czech Republic; however, two subcategories of protective forests—exceptionally unfavorable locations and natural alpine spruce communities below the forest line—potentially account for 87,578 ha and 15,277 ha, respectively. Forests with an increased soil protection function—a subcategory of special-purpose forests—occupy 133,699 ha. The potential area of soil protection forests could be up to 188,997 ha. Water resource protection zones of the first degree—another subcategory of special-purpose forests—occupy 8092 ha, and there is potentially 289,973 ha of forests serving a water protection function (specifically, a water management function) in the Czech Republic. A separate subcategory of water protection with a bank protection function accounts for 80,529 ha. A completely new approach is presented for practical use by forest owners: based on the characteristics of the habitat, they can obtain information about the fulfillment of the habitat’s ecosystem services and, thus, have basic information for the determination of forest categories and the principles of differentiated management. This study presents a computational analysis of industry-specific advertising message strategies through the theoretical lens of the FCB (Foote, Cone & Belding) grid framework. Leveraging the AiSAC (AI Analysis System for Ad Creation) system developed by the Korea Broadcast Advertising Corporation (KOBACO), we analyzed 27,000 Korean advertisements across five major industries using advanced machine learning techniques. Through Latent Dirichlet Allocation topic modeling with a coherence score of 0.78, we identified five distinct message strategies: emotional appeal, product features, visual techniques, setting and objects, and entertainment and promotion. Our computational analysis revealed that each industry exhibits a unique “message strategy fingerprint” that significantly discriminates between categories, with discriminant analysis achieving 62.7% classification accuracy. Time-series analysis using recurrent neural networks demonstrated a significant evolution in strategy preferences, with emotional appeal increasing by 44.3% over the study period (2015–2024). By mapping these empirical findings onto the FCB grid, the present study validated that industry positioning within the grid’s quadrants aligns with theoretical expectations: high-involvement/think (IT and Telecom), high-involvement/feel (Public Institutions), low-involvement/think (Food and Household Goods), and low-involvement/feel (Services). This study contributes to media science by demonstrating how computational methods can empirically validate the established theoretical frameworks in advertising, providing a data-driven approach to understanding message strategy patterns across industries. Elucidating the trade-offs and synergies among ecosystem services is crucial for effective ecosystem management and the promotion of sustainable development in specific regions. The Hexi Corridor, a vital agricultural hub in Northwest China, is instrumental in both ecological conservation and socioeconomic advancement throughout the area. Utilizing an integrated “water–soil–carbon–grain” framework, this study conducted a quantitative assessment of four essential ecosystem services within the Hexi Corridor from 2000 to 2020: water yield, soil conservation, vegetation carbon sequestration, and grain production. Our research thoroughly explores the equilibrium and synergistic interactions between grain production and other ecosystem services, while also exploring potential strategies to boost grain yields through the precise management of these services. The insights garnered are invaluable for strategic regional development and will contribute to the revitalization efforts in Northwest China. Key findings include the following: (1) between 2000 and 2020, grain production exhibited a steady increase, alongside rising trends in water yields, soil conservation, and carbon sequestration, all of which demonstrated significant synergies with agricultural productivity; (2) in areas identified as grain production hotspots, there were stronger positive correlations between grain output and carbon sequestration services, soil conservation, and water yields than the regional averages, suggesting more pronounced mutual benefits; (3) the implementation of strategic initiatives such as controlling soil erosion, expanding afforestation efforts, and enhancing water-saving irrigation infrastructure could simultaneously boost ecological services and agricultural productivity. These results significantly enhance our comprehension of the interplay between ecosystem services in the Hexi Corridor and present practical approaches for the optimization of regional agricultural systems. Procedural physician-scientists have made significant contributions to medicine and science, with twelve proceduralists receiving a Nobel Prize. Unfortunately, several systemic challenges have jeopardized the existence, let alone the flourishing, of procedural physician-scientists: the widening gap in the National Institutes of Health salary cap, decreasing funding from nonfederal public and private agencies, and shifting priorities among U.S. hospitals, payers, and policymakers toward relative value unit productivity-based compensation and fee-for-service models. Additional pressures include prolonged training pathways and the need to maintain clinical continuity. Adopting a team science approach may offer a powerful strategy to mitigate these competing demands, support rigorous scientific inquiry, and address the growing complexity of biomedical research. Concerted efforts by the federal government, policymakers, corporations, institutions, and procedural departments will also be crucial to restoring the vitality of this diminishing workforce. This study introduces the concept of DEEPEIA, a novel deep learning (DL) platform designed to recommend the optimal export market, and its ideal foreign champion, for any product or service offered by a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME). Drawing on expertise in SME internationalization and leveraging recent advances in generative artificial intelligence (AI), this research addresses key challenges faced by SMEs in global expansion. A systematic review of existing platforms was conducted to identify current gaps and inform the conceptualization of an advanced generative DL recommender system. The Discussion section proposes the conceptual framework for such a decision optimizer within the context of contemporary technological advancements and actionable insights. The conclusion outlines future research directions, practical implementation strategies, and expected obstacles. By mapping the current landscape and presenting an original forecasting tool, this work advances the field of AI-enabled SME internationalization while still acknowledging that more empirical validation remains a necessary next step. Modern software solutions have a multiplicative effect on enhancing quality of life across various urban sectors, including the environment, education, public health, security, transportation, time efficiency, employment, and other key aspects of city living. This article addresses a specific issue concerning the organisation of leisure activities for both local residents and tourists, using the Chechen Republic as a case study. In response, the study aimed to develop a digital solution to address this challenge, with potential for integration into the Republic’s unified digital ecosystem. By employing system analysis methods, the authors identified the key objects and stakeholders involved in the problem domain. They also defined the software product’s functionality and classified user categories. Using Unified Modelling Language methods, a use case diagram was developed to illustrate the conceptual operation of the system. Furthermore, object-oriented design methods were applied to create a user interface prototype for the software product. As a result, a digital service was developed that enables users to create personalised leisure routes, taking into account individual goals, time constraints, traffic conditions, and the real-time status of urban infrastructure. The resulting software solution is both customisable and scalable. The article also presents selected examples of project development. Full article

Rural Public Science and Technology Services, Land Productivity, and Agricultural Modernization: Case Study of Southwest China

The realization of agricultural modernization inevitably requires the improvement of agricultural land productivity. Rural public science and technology services is an important driving force to improve agricultural land productivity. However, can rural public science and technology services accelerate the process of agricultural modernization by improving land productivity? This paper innovatively constructs an evaluation index system and an mediating mechanism model, measures the comprehensive index of agricultural modernization and rural public science and technology services through the global entropy method, and empirically tests the mediating effect of the mechanism of “land productivity” with the help of measurement methods such as the Sobel–Goodman test and Bootstrap test. The research results find that rural public science and technology services can positively promote agricultural modernization and pass the 1% significance level test. There is a significant mediating effect of “increasing production” in the impact of rural public science and technology services on agricultural modernization, that is, rural public science and technology services can significantly promote agricultural modernization through the mechanism of “improving land productivity”. Government intervention and economic growth are significantly positive, which can significantly promote agricultural modernization. These findings have clear policy implications: Chinese government should accelerate the filling of gaps in rural public technology services between urban and rural areas in the southwest region, empower land productivity through science and technology, and promote the transformation of agricultural scientific and technological achievements into real productive forces. This research is helpful to provide policy reference and case experience for similar areas to speed up agricultural modernization by giving full play to the mechanism of “improving land productivity” of agricultural science and technology services. Research on ecosystem carbon sequestration services and ecological compensation is crucial for advancing carbon neutrality. As a public good, ecosystem carbon sequestration services inherently lead to externalities. Therefore, it is essential to consider externalities in the flow of sequestration services. However, few studies have examined intra- and inter-regional ecosystem carbon sequestration flows, making regional ecosystem carbon sequestration flows less comprehensive. Against this background, the research objectives of this paper are as follows. The flow of carbon sequestration services between Henan Province and out-of-province regions is studied. In addition, this study clarifies the beneficiary and supply areas of carbon sink services in Henan Province and the neighboring regions at the prefecture-level city scale to obtain a more systematic, comprehensive, and actual flow of carbon sequestration services for scientific and effective eco-compensation and to promote regional synergistic emission reductions. The research methodologies used in this paper are as follows. First, this study adopts a meta-coupling framework, designating Henan Province as the focal system, the Central Urban Agglomeration as the adjacent system, and eight surrounding provinces as remote systems. Regional carbon sequestration was assessed using net primary productivity (NEP), while carbon emissions were evaluated based on per capita carbon emissions and population density. A carbon balance analysis integrated carbon sequestration and emissions. Hotspot analysis identified areas of carbon sequestration service supply and associated benefits. Ecological radiation force formulas were used to quantify service flows, and compensation values were estimated considering the government’s payment capacity and willingness. A three-dimensional evaluation system—incorporating technology, talent, and fiscal capacity—was developed to propose a diversified ecological compensation scheme by comparing supply and beneficiary areas. By modeling the ecosystem carbon sequestration service flow, the main results of this paper are as follows: (1) Within Henan Province, Luoyang and Nanyang provided 521,300 tons and 515,600 tons of carbon sinks to eight cities (e.g., Jiaozuo, Zhengzhou, and Kaifeng), warranting an ecological compensation of CNY 262.817 million and CNY 263.259 million, respectively. (2) Henan exported 3.0739 million tons of carbon sinks to external provinces, corresponding to a compensation value of CNY 1756.079 million. Conversely, regions such as Changzhi, Xiangyang, and Jinzhong contributed 657,200 tons of carbon sinks to Henan, requiring a compensation of CNY 189.921 million. (3) Henan thus achieved a net ecological compensation of CNY 1566.158 million through carbon sink flows. (4) In addition to monetary compensation, beneficiary areas may also contribute through technology transfer, financial investment, and talent support. The findings support the following conclusions: (1) it is necessary to consider the externalities of ecosystem services, and (2) the meta-coupling framework enables a comprehensive assessment of carbon sequestration service flows, providing actionable insights for improving ecosystem governance in Henan Province and comparable regions.
