Against the backdrop of intensifying geopolitical conflicts and deglobalization, how Specialized, Refined, Differentiated, and Innovative small and medium-sized enterprises (SRDI SMEs) can overcome resource constraints and achieve sustained growth has become an important research issue. Although prior research has recognized that business ecosystem embeddedness provides SMEs with access to external resources and growth opportunities, the mechanisms through which such embeddedness translates into the growth of SRDI SMEs in turbulent environments remain insufficiently understood. Drawing on resource orchestration theory, this study develops a theoretical model linking business ecosystem embeddedness to SRDI SME growth and examines the mediating roles of proactive organizational resilience and reactive organizational resilience, as well as the moderating role of digital leadership. Using two-wave survey data from 367 Chinese SRDI SMEs, this study tests the proposed hypotheses through regression analysis and bootstrapping. The results show that business ecosystem embeddedness is significantly and positively associated with SRDI SME growth and that proactive organizational resilience and reactive organizational resilience each partially mediate this relationship. Moreover, digital leadership strengthens the relationships between business ecosystem embeddedness and both dimensions of organizational resilience, thereby strengthening its indirect effects on SRDI SME growth through proactive organizational resilience and reactive organizational resilience. The findings provide theoretical insights and practical implications for SRDI SMEs seeking sustained growth in turbulent environments. Full article

Telecommunications infrastructures are increasingly cloud-native, multi-vendor, and mission-critical environments, integrating 5G core networks, virtualized network functions, and software-defined infrastructure that expand the operational attack surface and make robust security architecture a core engineering requirement. Zero-Trust Architecture (ZTA) has emerged as the leading technical paradigm for securing these environments through continuous authentication and policy-based access control; however, technical Zero-Trust controls alone do not guarantee successful deployment, and large-scale deployment introduces significant socio-technical and governance challenges that existing engineering-focused frameworks only partially address. This study makes two contributions: it provides longitudinal evidence on the impact of ZTA on organizational trust using an extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) that incorporates Perceived Trust, and it proposes a Proactive Trust Management Playbook (PTMP) for telecommunications infrastructure organizations that complements technical Zero-Trust deployments through organizational governance. The study draws on a five-wave repeated cross-sectional longitudinal case study conducted between 2020 and 2023 in a multinational telecommunications infrastructure organization. The five waves span three organizational phases, enabling an assessment of employee perceptions of usefulness, ease of use, and trust before and after ZTA deployment and following a structured governance intervention. The findings reveal a substantial decline in the composite TAM index following ZTA implementation (−24%, Cohen’s d = 1.12), with no meaningful spontaneous recovery over time (d = 0.08). A structured Communication Campaign was associated with a partial but incomplete recovery (d approximately 0.47), indicating that trust erosion under ZTA is measurable and suggesting that trust recovery is shaped more by governance interventions than by technological adaptation alone. The proposed PTMP complements technical Zero-Trust architectures by strengthening organizational trust and governance in telecommunications infrastructure environments. Full article

Safety hazards in coal mines are characterized by significant spatiotemporal heterogeneity, dynamic evolution, and multi-actor coupling. Traditional safety management models, which center on periodic inspections and accident rectification, struggle to achieve proactive risk identification and full-process control. To address this issue, this paper proposes a multi-scale, collaborative “four-in-one” safety management framework oriented toward the hazard lifecycle, based on the spatiotemporal evolution patterns of safety hazards. This framework integrates systems safety theory with the safety philosophy of socio-technical systems, viewing safety hazards as an evolutionary process shaped by the combined effects of spatial exposure, human behavior, organizational management, and dynamic states. It establishes a comprehensive safety governance system comprising precise risk identification, active personnel participation, closed-loop accountability governance, and intelligent dynamic feedback. By integrating the “Area–Point–Number” risk classification method; the “Two-way Risk Purchasing” incentive mechanism; the “Six-level, Six-step, and Three-chain” closed-loop management model; and the Hazard Alert System, the framework achieves the coordinated optimization of risk identification, hazard management, and information feedback. Application validation based on safety hazard data from a coal mine between 2017 and 2020 demonstrates that this method enhances the ability to identify potential risks and effectively reduces major hazard types, such as management deficiencies, unsafe behaviors, and unsafe conditions. The research findings indicate that this framework overcomes the limitations of traditional safety management—such as a single-entity approach, static inspections, and passive responses—and facilitates a shift in coal mine safety governance from hazard control to risk prevention and from manual, experience-based management to intelligent, collaborative decision-making, thereby providing a new theoretical approach for enhancing the safety resilience of complex coal mine production systems. Construction supply chains (CSCs) are increasingly exposed to material shortages, demand fluctuations, logistics disruptions, and inter-organizational coordination failures. Artificial intelligence (AI) offers new opportunities to improve construction supply chain resilience (CSCR) by strengthening prediction, information processing, and collaborative decision-making. However, the mechanisms through which AI capabilities enhance CSCR remain insufficiently understood. Drawing on organizational information processing theory (OIPT) and dynamic capabilities theory (DCT), this study examines whether AI capabilities affect proactive and reactive CSCR directly or indirectly through three dimensions of supply chain integration (SCI): operational, information, and relational integration. It further compares the relative strengths of these pathways. This research adopts an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design. In the quantitative phase, 353 valid questionnaires from construction professionals in China were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). In the qualitative phase, semi-structured interviews with 15 experts, alongside three real-world cases, were utilized to interpret the quantitative findings and identify contextual boundary conditions. The results demonstrate that AI capabilities have significant positive effects on both proactive CSCR (β = 0.140, p < 0.01) and reactive CSCR (β = 0.116, p < 0.05). Furthermore, AI capabilities significantly promote operational integration (β = 0.299, p < 0.001), information integration (β = 0.361, p < 0.001), and relational integration (β = 0.227, p < 0.001), which in turn enhance both resilience dimensions. Notably, information integration is an important aspect of proactive resilience (β = 0.290, p < 0.001), while operational integration is crucial for reactive resilience (β = 0.274, p < 0.001). The qualitative findings further indicate that environmental uncertainty, technical readiness, and top management support condition the effectiveness of AI-enabled SCI. Theoretically, grounded in OIPT and DCT, this study clarifies the pathways through which AI affects CSCR and the contextual conditions shaping these effects, thereby advancing the analytical framework for AI-driven resilience. Practically, it delivers tiered implementation guidance for construction stakeholders to deploy AI tools for layered integration, thereby specifically enhancing both pre-disruption proactive risk prevention and post-shock reactive recovery capacities. This study examines the role of digital transformation in strengthening organizational resilience in Moroccan tourism accommodation firms operating in crisis-prone environments. Successive economic, health, and environmental disruptions have highlighted the need to better understand how entrepreneurial orientation contributes to organizational resilience and whether digital transformation acts as a mediating mechanism. Data were collected from 137 owners and managers of Moroccan tourism accommodation firms and analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Entrepreneurial orientation was operationalized through its three dimensions (innovativeness, proactiveness, and risk-taking), while organizational resilience was assessed across the readiness, response, and recovery phases to provide a multidimensional perspective. The results show that digital transformation plays a significant mediating role in enhancing organizational resilience. Among the entrepreneurial orientation dimensions, proactiveness emerged as the strongest predictor, exerting significant direct and indirect effects on all resilience phases through digital transformation. Innovativeness contributed primarily through its indirect effect via digital transformation, whereas risk-taking showed no significant direct or indirect influence. These findings suggest that digital transformation constitutes a key organizational capability through which entrepreneurial orientation strengthens resilience. The study contributes to the literature by adopting a multidimensional approach to both entrepreneurial orientation and organizational resilience, and provides practical insights for managers seeking to enhance resilience through digital transformation. Community-based tourism enterprises (CBTEs) play an important role in supporting local livelihoods, preserving cultural heritage, and promoting sustainable tourism development. This study examines the relationships among supply chain integration, resilience capabilities, and sustainable development using survey data from 256 community-based tourism enterprises in Vietnam. A two-stage empirical approach combining Seemingly Unrelated Regression (SUR) and Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) models was employed. The findings indicate that network design and information systems positively influence both proactive and reactive resilience capabilities, while collaboration strengthens proactive resilience but negatively affects reactive resilience. Strategy exerts the strongest positive effect on reactive resilience. Furthermore, both proactive and reactive resilience capabilities positively contribute to environmental, social, and economic sustainability outcomes. Reactive resilience demonstrates the strongest impact on environmental sustainability, whereas proactive resilience has the greatest effect on economic sustainability. An unexpected finding is the negative relationship between collaboration and reactive resilience, suggesting potential trade-offs between stakeholder dependence and organizational flexibility. This study extends Dynamic Capability Theory by distinguishing between proactive and reactive resilience capabilities and explaining how resilience facilitates the transformation of supply chain integration into sustainable development outcomes. The findings have practical implications for strengthening resilience and promoting sustainability in community-based tourism enterprises. Full article

The Digital Product Passport (DPP) is considered a critical tool for sustainable supply chains within the scope of the European Green Deal. DPP significantly contributes to improving traceability, transparency, reliability, and circularity in supply chains, enabling a more robust and secure structure. However, despite this significant potential, achieving full integration of DPP is hampered by various organizational, technological, and environmental barriers. This study used the Grey Decision Making Testing and Evaluation Laboratory (Grey DEMATEL) approach, the Technology–Organization–Environment (TOE) framework, and Force Field Theory to identify and categorize these barriers. A total of 27 barriers were identified based on a comprehensive literature review and the opinions of academic and industry experts, and these barriers were categorized into organizational, technological, and environmental categories. The study findings demonstrate that technological barriers, in particular, have a causal effect that strongly triggers both organizational and environmental challenges. The causal analysis conducted reveals the interdependencies among barriers and guides practitioners and policymakers in identifying resistance points to change. Furthermore, the study offers important insights that will help supply chain stakeholders transition from reactive approaches to proactive strategies when managing DPP-related barriers. The insights gained in this regard support the design of collaborative governance mechanisms to create a more resilient, transparent, manageable, secure, and circular supply chain ecosystem. In response to inherent occupational and operational stress in public safety personnel (PSP), multiple policies and interventions have been implemented, often with sparse or low-quality research. The National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace (the Standard) is a comprehensive framework aimed at promoting mental health and preventing psychological harm in Canadian workplaces. This longitudinal multiple-cohort implementation science project describes mental health strategies implemented and associated organizational outcomes across five PSP organizations implementing change within the standard framework. Data were collected at two levels over a three-year span from the five public safety organizations that identified priority areas for improvement within the Standard based on local data and consultations. The organization selected and implemented a range of proactive mental health interventions, including resiliency training. Individual pre-post surveys assessed a variety of mental health disorders and work-related items. Annual organizational data included sick leave hours and extended health benefits for psychological services. Survey responses were aggregated at the organizational level. Rank-based correlation analyses (Kendall’s tau) described associations among occupational stress, work engagement, stigma, and organizational indicators. Organizations demonstrated multiple indicators of progress in meeting the Standard. Post-mental health symptom scores were positively correlated with extended health costs. Higher organizational stress scores were associated with higher extended health costs (psychological) (τ = 1.0 at pre-intervention; 0.67 post-intervention). Positive changes in organizational stress scores and higher engagement scores over the implementation process were both associated with lower average extended health costs (τ = 1.0/−1.0 respectively). Resilience scores were inversely related to health costs (τ = −0.67), consistent with the protective role of resilience. The Standard can serve as a framework for improving workplace health and safety when integrated with multi-modal action plans and structured resilience programs. Full article

Against the backdrop of broadly similar safety regulation, firms in high-risk industries continue to differ in day-to-day safety governance. This study draws on distributed-cognition and socio-technical systems perspectives to examine how formal, material, and relational carriers help senior-management safety prioritization acquire a recorded organizational footprint under performance pressure. We conceptualize institutionalization, digital safety system support, and team safety climate as interdependent carriers and analyze three-wave, multi-source data from 183 firms and 667 teams in Chinese high-risk industries. Firm-level operational leading indicators (OLI) from safety-management records serve as the primary recorded-outcome layer. OLI analyses show that institutionalization and digital safety system support are robustly associated with the overall recorded-indicator composite; team safety climate, by contrast, aligns most clearly with proactive reporting. The three carriers leave carrier-specific signatures across recorded-indicator bundles: institutionalization in closed-loop rectification, digital safety system support in digital-system activity, and team safety climate in proactive reporting. Performance pressure operates mainly as an additive contextual force in the recorded layer. The findings contribute to Systems scholarship on entangled socio-technical resilience by identifying how managerial priorities acquire organizational reach through differentiated carrier coupling in the recorded organizational layer. In the complex and high-risk underground environment of coal mining, ensuring occupational health and safety is a fundamental pillar of social sustainability. Traditional safety compliance is insufficient to prevent unpredictable accidents and sustain long-term enterprise resilience. Thus, fostering proactive safety citizenship behavior is essential for enhancing organizational resilience. Drawing on the cognitive appraisal theory of stress, this study constructs a double-edged sword model of felt accountability on miners’ safety citizenship behavior. A three-wave time-lagged survey was conducted among 375 frontline coal miners in China, with data analyzed using SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 24.0. The findings show that felt accountability can increase work engagement and promote employee safety citizenship behavior, while also enhancing psychological strain and inhibiting employee safety citizenship behavior. In addition, safety-specific transformational leadership amplifies the positive impact of felt accountability on work engagement and mitigates its effects on psychological strain. These findings enrich our understanding of the impact of felt accountability, and provide practical insights for coal enterprise managers to improve sustainable safety performance and foster a socially sustainable work environment. Healthcare fragmentation—characterized by poor coordination among independently operating organizations—systematically degrades care quality while escalating costs. While healthcare delivery inherently operates as a System of Systems (SoS), existing approaches lack semantic rigor to bridge governance principles with implementable architectures, and digital engineering paradigms remain disconnected from formal representations of regulatory constraints and organizational interdependencies. This paper presents a comprehensive Web Ontology Language (OWL 2 DL)-based ontology integrating structural, behavioral, and regulatory dimensions of healthcare SoS into a unified, computationally tractable framework. Developed following the Methontology engineering methodology and validated using the HermiT reasoner, the ontology formalizes constituent system categories through functional decomposition, establishes an interaction taxonomy distinguishing intra-category coordination from inter-category integration, and introduces the Covenant class as a novel governance mechanism. The covenant embeds legal frameworks (HIPAA, GDPR), interoperability protocols (FHIR, HL7), and technical standards (SNOMED, LOINC, ICD-11, ISO) as first-class ontological entities with explicit relationships to interaction properties. Governance enforcement is operationalized through a layered validation architecture comprising SWRL rules for deductive compliance checking, SHACL shapes for structural constraint validation, and OWL equivalentClass axioms for automated conflict detection. The ontology is further validated through four operational scenarios that demonstrate automated consent validation, standards compliance verification, protocol interoperability checking, and temporal compliance with conflict detection, alongside extended SPARQL queries that reveal constituent system landscapes, standards coverage, interaction networks, and topological properties through node degree calculation, hub identification, and network density analysis. The ontology enables pre-implementation governance assessments, evidence-based policy simulation, digital twin implementations with continuous compliance monitoring, and resilience planning through network analysis, transforming governance from reactive compliance checking to proactive coordination engineering. Building on the resource-based view (RBV) and organizational information processing theory (OIPT), this study examines how AI assimilation as a firm-level strategic capability improves supply–demand visibility and strengthens supply chain risk management (SCRM). Using survey data collected from 129 manufacturing firms in China, the proposed research framework is tested through structural equation modeling. The results show that AI assimilation significantly enhances both supply–demand visibility and SCRM, with visibility playing a partial mediating role in translating AI-enabled capabilities into more effective risk control. These findings indicate that AI contributes to resilience not merely through technological deployment but through its integration into organizational processes that support information processing and coordination. From a managerial perspective, the study suggests that firms should approach AI as an ongoing strategic capability development process rather than a one-time technological investment. By embedding AI into core supply chain functions such as production planning, inventory management, and demand forecasting, firms can improve visibility, anticipate disruptions, and shift toward more proactive and resilient risk management practices. This study advances the literature by integrating RBV and OIPT to explain the strategic mechanisms through which AI assimilation enhances visibility in SCRM, providing empirical evidence from a manufacturing context. As climate-driven disasters intensify globally, this study investigates how environmental volatility influences the pro-environmental initiatives of micro-entrepreneurs in Chile. While Chile possesses world-class seismic resilience, the 2020–2025 period marked a dramatic shift toward hydro-climatological extremes, including mega-fires and catastrophic flooding. Integrating construal level theory, protection motivation theory, and the concept of focusing events, this research examines the psychological and structural drivers of business adaptation. Results indicate that residing in disaster-prone regions is insufficient to trigger proactivity; instead, a stark distinction exists between abstract geographic proximity and the behavior triggered by personal exposure. Furthermore, mediation analysis provides mixed support for the role of business profit; while profit loss negatively mediated equipment efficiency and recycling, the magnitude was marginal. This coping gap suggests that resource-constrained actors favor low-cost survivalist tactics over systemic shifts due to depleted organizational slack. Ultimately, the study highlights that disasters are powerful but inefficient teachers; without addressing technical and financial barriers to mitigation, global supply chains remain fragile despite localized disaster experiences. This study aims to investigate how an organization’s purpose (raison d’être) dictates first responder resilience-building. While existing studies often treat first responders as a homogeneous group, this research argues that significant interprofessional differences exist. Using a socioecological framework, the study employs a qualitative, comparative design to analyze three first responder systems: the Slovenian Armed Forces, the Slovenian Police, and Slovenia’s public healthcare system. The analysis is grounded in 31 semi-structured interviews, supplemented by analysis of official documents. The findings reveal three pillars of resilience—training, planning, and experience—and three distinct institutional paradigms. The military fosters a culture of proactive, institutionalized resilience-building oriented toward macro-level crises. The police exhibit a more reactive approach, where resilience-building is often undermined by chronic organizational stressors. In the healthcare system, resilience-building is fragmented and localized, with the burden falling on smaller organizational units to manage micro-level crises of capacity overload. The study concludes that an organization’s raison d’être is a vital socioecological factor that shapes its approach to resilience. Full article

Background/Objectives: Healthcare workers at the frontline of managing pandemics are at increased risk for adverse physical and mental health outcomes, which has been shown to result in burnout. The relationship between personal resilience and burnout among clinical and non-clinical healthcare staff working in an acute care setting was assessed at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A prospective cross-sectional survey design with electronic questionnaires was used to measure resilience (Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale,) and burnout (Maslach Burnout Inventory—Human Services Survey). Linear regression analyses were conducted to examine the relationship between resilience and emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment. Results: A significant inverse relationship between resilience and both emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, and a positive relationship between resilience and personal accomplishment were identified. Higher resilience scores were significantly associated with lower emotional exhaustion and depersonalization and higher personal accomplishment under pandemic conditions. Conclusions: Strategies to boost resilience organization-wide amongst healthcare staff providing patient care are critical for providing skills to reduce the onset of burnout and support employee mental health. From a pandemic preparedness lens, organizational-level emergency management should consider the importance of resilience-building among staff to proactively prevent burnout and its subsequent effects on patient-care and general hospital functioning.
