Mobile Banking Adoption: A Multi-Factorial Study on Social Influence, Compatibility, Digital Self-Efficacy, and Perceived Cost Among Generation Z Consumers in the United States

The introduction of mobile banking is essential in today’s financial sector, where technological innovation plays a critical role. To remain competitive in the current market, businesses must analyze client attitudes and perspectives, as these influence long-term demand and overall profitability. While previous studies have explored general adoption behaviors, limited research has examined how individual factors such as social influence, lifestyle compatibility, financial technology self-efficacy, and perceived usage cost affect mobile banking adoption among specific generational cohorts. This study addresses that gap by offering insights into these variables, contributing to the growing literature on mobile banking adoption, and presenting actionable recommendations for financial institutions targeting younger market segments. Using a structured questionnaire survey, data were collected from both users and non-users of mobile banking among the Gen Z population in the United States. The regression model significantly predicts mobile banking adoption, with an intercept of 0.548 (p < 0.001). Among the independent variables, perceived cost of usage has the strongest positive effect on adoption (B=0.857, β=0.722, p < 0.001), suggesting that adoption increases when mobile banking is perceived as more affordable. Social influence also has a significant positive impact (B=0.642, β=0.643, p < 0.001), indicating that peer influence is a central driver of adoption decisions. However, self-efficacy shows a significant negative relationship (B=0.343, β=0.339, p < 0.001), and lifestyle compatibility was found to be statistically insignificant (p=0.615). These findings suggest that reducing perceived costs, through lower fees, data bundling, or clearer communication about affordability, can directly enhance adoption among Gen Z consumers. Furthermore, leveraging peer influence via referral rewards, Partnerships with influencers, and in-app social features can increase user adoption. Since digital self-efficacy presents a barrier for some, banks should prioritize simplifying user interfaces and offering guided assistance, such as tutorials or chat-based support. Future research may employ longitudinal designs or analyze real-life transaction data for a more objective understanding of behavior. Additional variables like trust, perceived risk, and regulatory policies, not included in this study, should be integrated into future models to offer a more comprehensive analysis. Full article

Background: The relationship between spleen and bone marrow stiffness, and other features of abnormal myeloproliferation has long been described. However, the scientific knowledge in this area remains very superficial. This review evaluated the diagnostic effectiveness of various ultrasound (US) methods in the assessment of neoplastic myeloproliferation using spleen stiffness measurement (SSM). Aim: To explore the diagnostic accuracy of US techniques in assessing spleen stiffness, determining which of them may be suitable for the diagnosis of myeloproliferative diseases in adults. Methods: The review included original retrospective or prospective studies published in the last five years (2019–2024) in peer-reviewed medical journals that reported receiver operating characteristics (ROCs) for SSM and the articles concerning the relation between SSM values and neoplastic myeloproliferation. The studies were identified through PubMed searches on 1 July and 1 December 2024. Quality was assessed using the QUADAS-2 tool. Results were tabulated according to the diagnostic method separately for myeloproliferative neoplasms (MNs) and for other clinical findings. Results: The review included 52 studies providing ROCs for SSM or compatibility between operators, and five studies covering the relation between SSM values and MNs. Conclusions: Acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI), two-dimensional shear wave elastography (2D-SWE), transient elastography (TE), and point shear wave elastography (p-SWE) are promising methods for measuring SSM that can be incorporated into the diagnosis, screening, and monitoring system in MNs. Background/Objectives: Malnutrition in older adults is both preventable and treatable, yet its detection and etiology remain complex. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of malnutrition and various factors involved in the etiology of malnutrition in community-dwelling individuals aged 65 years and older. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with community-dwelling individuals aged 65 years and older in a health center in Ağrı, Türkiye. The nutritional status of older adults was measured using the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA). Data were collected through face-to-face interviews and a series of validated instruments, including the Standardized Mini Mental Examination (MMSE), body composition measurements (BIA), dietary intake records, and physical performance tests such as hand grip strength, chair stand, and Timed ‘Up & Go’ (TUG) Test. Statistical analyses included chi-square and Mann-Whitney U tests for group comparisons and logistic regression to investigate independent factors associated with risk of malnutrition. Results: A total of 182 participants were included in the study. The mean age of the participants was 72.1 ± 6.0 years. Of the participants, 59.3% were male. 1.6% of the participants were malnourished, and 25.3% were at risk of malnutrition. Perceived health status compared to peers (OR: 1.734, 95% CI: 1.256–2.392, p = 0.001), lower appetite status (OR: 1.942, 95% CI: 1.459–2.585, p < 0.001) and lower waist circumference (OR: 1.089, 95% CI: 1.040–1.140, p < 0.001) were independent predictors of malnutrition risk. Conclusions: The risk of malnutrition was higher among individuals with lower appetite, poorer self-perceived health status compared to peers, and smaller waist circumference. Reduced physical function and strength were also associated with an increased risk of malnutrition. Full article

Atmospheric corrosion significantly impacts infrastructure worldwide, with traditional assessment methods being time-intensive and costly. This study developed a comprehensive machine learning framework for predicting atmospheric corrosion rates using environmental and material parameters. Three regression models (Linear Regression, Random Forest, and Gradient Boosting) were trained on a scientifically informed synthetic dataset incorporating established corrosion principles from ISO 9223 standards and peer-reviewed literature. The Gradient Boosting model achieved superior performance with cross-validated R2 = 0.835 ± 0.024 and RMSE = 98.99 ± 16.62 μm/year, significantly outperforming the Random Forest (p < 0.001) and Linear Regression approaches. Feature importance analysis revealed the copper content (30%), exposure time (20%), and chloride deposition (15%) as primary predictors, consistent with the established principles of corrosion science. Model diagnostics demonstrated excellent predictive accuracy (R2 = 0.863) with normally distributed residuals and homoscedastic variance patterns. This methodology provides a systematic framework for ML-based corrosion prediction, with significant implications for protective coating design, material selection, and infrastructure risk assessment, pending comprehensive experimental validation. This paper proposes a multi-hop peer-to-peer (P2P) video streaming architecture designed to support dynamic, conversation-aware communication. The primary contribution is a decentralized system built on WebRTC that eliminates reliance on a central media server by employing super node aggregation. In this architecture, video streams from multiple peer nodes are dynamically routed through a group of super nodes, enabling real-time reconfiguration of the network topology in response to conversational changes. To support this dynamic behavior, the system leverages WebRTC data channels for control signaling and overlay restructuring, allowing efficient dissemination of topology updates and coordination messages among peers. A key focus of this study is the rapid and efficient reallocation of network resources immediately following conversational events, ensuring that the streaming overlay remains aligned with ongoing interaction patterns. While the automatic detection of such events is beyond the scope of this work, we assume that external triggers are available to initiate topology updates. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed system, we construct a simulation environment using Docker containers and evaluate its streaming performance under dynamic network conditions. The results demonstrate the system’s applicability to adaptive, naturalistic communication scenarios. Finally, we discuss future directions, including the seamless integration of external trigger sources and enhanced support for flexible, context-sensitive interaction frameworks. Full article

Background/Objectives: Single-dose pre-operative antibiotic prophylaxis for cardiac-device implantation is recommended but extending antibiotic prophylaxis is common. Locally, 50–60% of patients had extended prophylaxis after pacemaker insertion or generator change. Our antimicrobial stewardship programme (ASP) incorporated behavioural change strategies in implementing a multi-pronged intervention bundle to address this and evaluated its effectiveness and safety. Methods: This single-centre, retrospective cohort study included patients aged 21 years old or older, undergoing uncomplicated pacemaker insertion or generator change at Singapore General Hospital (SGH) from October 2022 to March 2025. To improve antibiotic use, ASP interventions incorporating behaviour change strategies were implemented, namely (1) data-driven feedback, (2) targeted education, (3) identification and engagement of ASP champion, and (4) clinical pathway revision. Results: There were 779 patients evaluated; 380 (48.8%) received standard prophylaxis while 399 (51.2%) received extended prophylaxis with oral antibiotics (mean duration, 3.3 ± 0.8 days). Following ASP interventions, the practice of extended prophylaxis declined significantly from 43.8% to 24.0% (p < 0.01). The incidence of surgical site infections was low and similar in both groups (0.8%, p = 1.000); all infections were superficial. There was also significant reduction in the proportion of patients on all antibiotics from 20.7% to 16.3% (p < 0.01). Identification and engagement of ASP champion proved pivotal in changing prescribing behaviour through peer influence and credibility. Conclusions: The bundled ASP interventions, incorporating behavioural change strategies, have effectively and safely reduced the use of extended prophylaxis post-cardiac device implantation. Behavioural change interventions are essential to achieve sustained stewardship success. Full article

Background/Objectives: Cochlear implants (CIs) and hearing aids (HAs) have enhanced auditory rehabilitation in elderly individuals, yet limitations in musical perception and psychosocial integration persist. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the effects of music therapy (MT) on the quality of life (QoL), self-esteem, auditory perception, and cognition in older CI and HA users. Methods: A comprehensive search of PubMed was conducted up to March 2022 following PRISMA guidelines. Studies involving participants aged ≥ 60 years with CIs and/or HAs were included. Ten studies (n = 21,632) met eligibility criteria. Data were extracted and assessed using the Newcastle–Ottawa Scale. Results: MT led to improved sound quality, with HISQUI19 scores rising from 60.0 ± 21.8 to 74.2 ± 27.5. Early MT exposure was associated with significantly better MUMU outcomes (p = 0.02). Bilateral CI users showed enhanced stereo detection (52% to 86%), and CI + HA users achieved CNC scores exceeding 95%. Postlingual CI users outperformed prelingual peers in musical discrimination (9.81 vs. 3.48; p < 0.001). Long-term HA use was linked to better a QoL and reduced loneliness. Conclusions: While music therapy appears to support auditory and psychosocial functioning in hearing-impaired older adults, the absence of randomized controlled trials limits causal inference regarding its effects. These results support its integration into hearing rehabilitation strategies for older adults. Full article

Background/Objectives: Hispanic adolescents experience elevated rates of disordered eating behaviors and body dissatisfaction, yet limited research has examined how gender and weight status interact to shape these risks within this population. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 680 Hispanic adolescents (ages 9–15) from a predominantly Mexican-American middle school. Participants completed the Modified Kids Eating Disorder Survey (M-KEDS), and height and weight were objectively measured to determine BMI-for-age percentile. Chi-square tests, Mann–Whitney U tests, and logistic regression were used to assess differences by gender and weight status, including interaction effects. Bonferroni correction was applied for multiple comparisons. Effect sizes (Cramér’s V, odds ratios with 95% CI) were reported. Results: Approximately 73% of participants reported body dissatisfaction, with significant differences observed by gender and weight status. Adolescents with overweight/obesity reported significantly higher negative weight attitudes and extreme weight control behaviors than healthy-weight peers (p < 0.001), with large effect sizes. Females endorsed more disordered attitudes and behaviors, except for exercise to lose weight, which was more common among overweight/obese males. Conclusions: These findings underscore the high prevalence and significance of disordered eating behaviors in Hispanic adolescents, including those at a healthy weight. Results highlight the importance of culturally tailored, gender-sensitive screening and prevention strategies. Schools serve as critical settings for early identification, and tools like the M-KEDS can help address disparities in care access and improve outcomes among Hispanic youth. Full article

An expanded Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research (PEER) Center Next Generation Attenuation Phase 2 (NGA-West2) ground motion database, compiled using shallow crustal earthquakes in active crustal regions (ACRs), was used to develop the closed-form GS24b backbone ground motion model (GMM) for the RotD50 horizontal components of peak ground acceleration (PGA), peak ground velocity (PGV), and 5% damped elastic pseudo-absolute response spectral accelerations (SA). The GS24b model is applicable to earthquakes with moment magnitudes of 4.0 ≤ M ≤ 8.5, at rupture distances of 0 ≤ Rrup ≤ 400 km, with time-averaged S-wave velocity in the upper 30 m of the profile at 150 ≤ VS30 ≤ 1500 m/s, and for periods of 0.01 ≤ T ≤ 10 s. The new backbone model includes VS30 site correction developed based on multiple representative S-wave velocity profiles. For crustal wave attenuation, we used the apparent anelastic attenuation of SA—QSA (f, M). In contrast to the GK17, the GS24b backbone is a generic ACR model designed specifically to be adjusted to any ACRs. The GS24bc is an example of a partially non-ergodic model created by adjusting the backbone GS24b model for magnitude M, S-wave velocity VS30, and fault rupture distance residuals. Full article

The rapid growth in large-scale distributed video conferencing, remote education, and real-time broadcasting poses significant challenges to traditional centralized streaming systems, particularly regarding scalability, cost, and reliability under high concurrency. Centralized approaches often encounter bottlenecks, increased bandwidth expenses, and diminished fault tolerance. This paper proposes a novel decentralized real-time broadcasting system employing a peer-to-peer (P2P) chain topology based on IPv6 networking and the Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) protocol. By exploiting the global addressing capability of IPv6, our solution simplifies direct node interconnections, effectively eliminating complexities associated with Network Address Translation (NAT). Furthermore, we introduce an innovative chain-relay transmission method combined with distributed node management strategies, substantially reducing reliance on central servers and minimizing deployment complexity. Leveraging SRT’s low-latency UDP transmission, packet retransmission, congestion control, and AES-128/256 encryption, the proposed system ensures robust security and high video stream quality across wide-area networks. Additionally, a WebSocket-based real-time fault detection algorithm coupled with a rapid fallback self-healing mechanism is developed, enabling millisecond-level fault detection and swift restoration of disrupted links. Extensive performance evaluations using Video Multi-Resolution Fidelity (VMRF) metrics across geographically diverse and heterogeneous environments confirm significant performance gains. Specifically, our approach achieves substantial improvements in latency, video quality stability, and fault tolerance over existing P2P methods, along with over tenfold enhancements in frame rates compared with conventional RTMP-based solutions, thereby demonstrating its efficacy, scalability, and cost-effectiveness for real-time video streaming applications. Once marketed as smoking cessation tools, e-cigarettes are used by adolescents mainly for entertainment, driven by aggressive marketing, appealing flavors, and safer alternatives to smoking. This study analyzes data from the National Youth Tobacco Survey (NYTS) to explore trends in adolescent perceptions and usage patterns of e-cigarettes from 2011 to 2023, focusing on their dual roles as cessation aids and recreational products. Cross-sectional data from the NYTS over four years (2011: N = 18,866; 2015: N = 17,711; 2019: N = 19,018; 2023: N = 22,069) formed the foundation of this study. This study investigated demographic trends, usage frequency, initial and future use patterns, and quitting behavior. Descriptive statistics and latent class analysis (LCA) were employed to examine adolescent e-cigarette use patterns, with statistical significance determined at p < 0.05. The reasons for using e-cigarettes have changed significantly over the years because of family or friends. In all years (2015–2023), use for smoking cessation dropped significantly (2.33% in 2023 vs. 6.95% in 2015). In 2023, 38% wanted to quit using e-cigarettes within 30 days, and 25% attempted to quit at least 10 times. Flavored e-cigarette users were more than twice as likely to consider quitting compared to those not interested in flavors (OR = 2.64). Our findings highlight a significant decrease in the use of e-cigarettes for cessation, with a corresponding increase in recreational use over time. These trends emphasize the urgency of implementing interventions to mitigate nicotine addiction and its associated health risks among adolescents. Adolescent e-cigarette use has transitioned from being primarily driven by cessation efforts to recreational purposes, largely influenced by appealing flavors and social factors such as peer influence, showing the need for stricter marketing regulations and targeted educational campaigns. The aim of this study is to assess endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) and circulating endothelial cells (CECs) at the time of type 1 diabetes (T1D) recognition concerning patients’ clinical state, remaining insulin secretion, and further partial remission (PR) occurrence. We recruited 45 children that were admitted to hospital due to newly diagnosed T1D (median age 10.8 yrs), and 20 healthy peers as a control group. EPC and CEC levels were measured at disease onset in PBMC isolated from whole peripheral blood with the use of flow cytometry. Clinical data regarding patients’ condition, C-peptide secretion, and further PR prevalence were analyzed. T1D-diagnosed patients presented higher EPC levels than the control group (p = 0.026), while no statistical differences in CEC levels and EPC/CEC ratio were observed. Considering only T1D patients, those with better clinical conditions presented lower EPCs (p = 0.021) and lower EPC/CEC ratios (p = 0.0002). Patients with C-peptide secretion within a normal range at disease onset presented lower EPC/CEC ratios (p = 0.027). Higher levels of EPCs were observed more frequently in patients with higher glucose, decreased fasting C-peptide, and lower stimulated C-peptide (all p < 0.05). The presence of DKA was related to higher EPC/CEC ratios (p = 0.034). Significantly higher levels of CECs were observed in patients who presented partial remission of the disease at 6 months after diagnosis (p = 0.03) only. In the study group, positive correlations of CECs with age, BMI at onset, and BMI in following years were observed. EPC/CEC ratios correlated positively with glucose levels at hospital admission and negatively with age, BMI, pH, and stimulated C-peptide level. We reveal a new potential for the application of EPCs and CECs as biomarkers, reflecting both endothelial injury and reconstruction processes in children with T1D. There is a need for further research in order to reduce cardiovascular risk in children with T1D. Full article

This study aims to validate the Online Sexual Harassment Perpetration among Peers (OSHP-P) instrument for assessing online sexual harassment among adolescents in two different countries, Spain and Italy, considering both new forms of online sexual harassment and gender differences. The instrument was validated by means of a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) with a sample of 1041 Spanish (Mage = 15.0, SD = 0.88) and 1385 Italian (Mage = 14.8, SD = 0.87) adolescents, demonstrating factorial invariance across both country and gender. The best-fitting model was two-dimensional, with ambiguous and direct Sexual Cyber Perpetration (SCP) and Non-Consensual Sharing Perpetration (NCSP) factors. Co-involvement (i.e., involvement in both types of aggression) rates were 10.3% in Spain and 7.8% in Italy. No significant gender differences were found for involvement in either the overall scale (46.4% for girls, 44.1% for boys) or the NCSP subscale (3.0% girls vs. 2.2% boys), although significantly higher co-involvement was found among boys (7.7% girls vs. 10.1% boys). This study contributes to the existing body of research on online sexual harassment among peers in adolescence by presenting a new assessment tool that has been shown to be invariant between Spanish and Italian adolescents, as well as between boys and girls. Social media platforms have become essential tools for businesses aiming to engage audiences through innovative communication, particularly in the food and beverage industry. This study explores the impact of three core digital marketing strategies, namely, social media advertisements, electronic word of mouth, and digital influencers, on customer responsiveness in the Lebanese food and beverage sector. Based on a cross-sectional survey of 400 participants, the findings reveal that social media advertisements significantly and positively influence customer responsiveness (β = 0.227, p < 0.001). Likewise, electronic word of mouth strongly predicts customer responsiveness (β = 0.453, p < 0.001), affirming the power of customer-generated content in shaping brand perceptions. Furthermore, the presence of digital influencers emerged as a significant predictor of consumer reaction (β = 0.236, p < 0.001), suggesting that consumers regard influencers as credible sources when making food-related decisions. Among all predictors, electronic word of mouth demonstrated the strongest effect. Control variables such as gender, age, and social media usage intensity showed no significant effect on customer responsiveness. These findings underscore the strategic value of rich media content and peer influence in shaping consumer behavior in the food and beverage industry. The study offers practical insights for marketers seeking to enhance customer engagement and brand responsiveness in digital spaces. Full article

Background/Objectives: Injury prevention programs (IPPs) are evidence-based interventions that reduce musculoskeletal injuries in youth sports. Despite their proven benefits, the adoption of IPPs by coaches remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the awareness, usage, and perceptions of IPPs among youth sports coaches in Poland and to identify factors associated with their implementation. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using a web-based survey tailored to youth sports coaches in Poland. Coaches of athletes aged 9–17 were recruited through targeted outreach to clubs and professional networks. The survey assessed IPP awareness, implementation, perceptions, and sources of information. Statistical analyses included chi-square tests, non-parametric comparisons, Firth’s logistic regression, and cluster profiling. Results: Only 54.6% of coaches (59 out of 108) were aware of IPPs, and among them, just 47.5% reported using them. No significant associations were found between IPP use and demographic variables such as gender, sport, or place of residence. Coaches who were aware of IPPs were significantly younger than those who were unaware (p = 0.029). The information source was the strongest predictor of IPP implementation: coaches trained via formal courses were over 20 times more likely to use IPPs compared to those learning from peers (OR = 20.4, p < 0.001). While coaches generally perceived IPPs as beneficial for fitness and recovery, 28.6% expressed doubts about their effectiveness in reducing injury risk. Conclusions: Despite broadly positive beliefs, only 47.5% of coaches who were aware of IPPs reported using them. Formal training significantly enhances the likelihood of adoption. These findings emphasize the need for structured educational efforts and improved dissemination strategies to promote evidence-based injury prevention in youth sports settings. Full article
