As global Marine resource development continues to expand into deep-sea and ultra-deep-sea domains, the intelligent and green transformation of deep-sea aquaculture equipment has become a key direction for high-quality development of the Marine economy. Large deep-sea cages are considered essential equipment for deep-sea aquaculture. However, there are significant challenges associated with ensuring their structural integrity and long-term monitoring capabilities in the complex Marine environments characteristic of deep-sea aquaculture. The present study focuses on large deep-sea cages, addressing their dynamic response challenges and long-term monitoring power supply needs in complex Marine environments. The present study investigates the nonlinear vibration characteristics of flexible net structures under complex fluid loads. To this end, a multi-field coupled dynamic model is constructed to reveal vibration response patterns and instability mechanisms. A self-powered sensing system based on triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) technology has been developed, featuring a curved surface adaptive TENG array for the real-time monitoring of net vibration states. This review aims to focus on the research of optimizing the design of curved surface adaptive TENG arrays and deep-sea cage monitoring. The present study will investigate the mechanisms of energy transfer and cooperative capture within multi-body coupled cage systems. In addition, the biomechanics of fish–cage flow field interactions and micro-energy capture technologies will be examined. By integrating different disciplinary perspectives and adopting innovative approaches, this work aims to break through key technical bottlenecks, thereby laying the necessary theoretical and technical foundations for optimizing the design and safe operation of large deep-sea cages. To address the difficulty in obtaining analytical solutions for the torsional vibration response of pile foundations in orthotropic layered soil foundations subjected to torsional excitation at the pile top, this study investigates a layered recursive algorithm based on the Hankel transform. An integral transformation method is employed to reduce the dimensionality of the coupled pile–soil torsional vibration equations, converting the three-dimensional system of partial differential equations into a set of ordinary differential equations. Combining the constitutive properties of transversely anisotropic strata with interlayer contact conditions, a transfer matrix model is established. Employing inverse transformation coupled with the Gauss–Kronrod integration method, an explicit frequency-domain solution for the torsional dynamic impedance at the pile top is derived. The research findings indicate that the anisotropy coefficient of the foundation significantly influences both the real and imaginary parts of the impedance magnitude. The sequence of soil layer distribution and the bonding state at interfaces jointly affect the nonlinear transmission characteristics of torque along the pile shaft. Full article

Due to the influence of materials, construction quality, environmental conditions, and artificial factors, debonding damage in external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS) has become a common issue in the construction field. A reliable and efficient method for identifying the debonding is still lacking. In this study, four groups of external insulation specimens with different degrees of debonding were fabricated. A non-contact detection method based on nonlinear vibration characteristics was employed, using a laser Doppler vibrometer to acquire the vibration response signals of the specimens. The results demonstrate that this technique can effectively distinguish specimens with different levels of debonding and accurately identify and locate the damage. Moreover, the relative position of the signal acquisition point with respect to the debonding area has no significant impact on the detection results. Full article

In this study, a nonlinear dynamic model is developed to examine the stability and vibration behavior of a self-balancing electric Segway operating over irregular stochastic terrains. The Segway is treated as a three-degrees-of-freedom cart–inverted pendulum system, incorporating elastic and damping effects at the wheel–ground interface. Road irregularities are generated in accordance with international standard using high-order filtered noise, allowing for representation of surface classes from smooth to highly degraded. The governing equations, formulated via Lagrange’s method, are transformed into a Lorenz-like state-space form for nonlinear analysis. Numerical simulations employ the fourth-order Runge–Kutta scheme to compute translational and angular responses under varying speeds and terrain conditions. Frequency-domain analysis using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) identifies resonant excitation bands linked to road spectral content, while Kernel Density Estimation (KDE) maps the probability distribution of displacement states to distinguish stable from variable regimes. The Lyapunov stability assessment and bifurcation analysis reveal critical velocity thresholds and parameter regions marking transitions from stable operation to chaotic motion. The study quantifies the influence of the gravity–damping ratio, mass–damping coupling, control torque ratio, and vertical excitation on dynamic stability. The results provide a methodology for designing stability control systems that ensure safe and comfortable Segway operation across diverse terrains. Full article

Horizontal vibrations in high-speed elevators induced by building sway degrade ride comfort and compromise operational safety. Developing an accurate and robust dynamic model is essential for effective vibration control. To address this, this study develops a comprehensive dynamic model of the coupled traction rope–car–guide shoe–guide rail system under multi-support excitations, incorporating nonlinear contact between the guide shoe and rail, guide rail vibration characteristics, and the time-varying length of traction rope. Using this model, the dynamic responses of the system under stationary and operating conditions are analyzed in detail. The results demonstrate that the proposed model accurately captures the dynamic behavior of the coupled system. In addition, the traction rope’s dynamics are a dominant factor in the system’s response, particularly when the elevator is stationary at a landing, producing a resonant condition with the building sway. Furthermore, a strong coupling between vertical motion and horizontal vibration is identified, which significantly amplifies the system response. By linking elevator dynamics with the sway characteristics of high-rise buildings, this work provides a robust analytical framework for predicting the dynamic response of high-speed elevators due to building sway and contributes to the safety assessment of high-rise reinforced concrete (RC) structures. This paper presents a flutter analysis of the UHBR Open Fan Testcase ECL5 for an off-design point at part speed and focuses on the second eigenmode, which has a strong torsional character near the blade tip. Recent studies by Pagès et al., using a time-linearized solver, showed strong negative damping for an operating point at 80% speed close to the maximal pressure ratio. This was identified as a phenomenon of convective resonance; for a certain nodal diameter and frequency, the blade vibration is in resonance with convective disturbances that are linearly unstable. In this work, a nonlinear frequency domain method (harmonic balance) is applied to the problem of aerodynamic damping prediction for this off-design operating point. It is shown that, to obtain plausible results, it is necessary to treat the turbulence model as unsteady. The impact of spurious reflections due to numerical boundary conditions is estimated for this case. While strong negative damping is not predicted by the analysis presented here, we observe particularly high sensitivity of the aerodynamic response with respect to turbulence model formulation and the frequency for certain nodal diameters. The combination of nodal diameter and frequency of maximal sensitivities are interpreted as points near resonance. We recover from these near-resonance points convective speeds and compare them to studies of the onset of nonsynchronous vibrations of the ECL5 fan at part-speed conditions. Full article

In this study, the nonlinear forced vibration response of fiber-reinforced laminated composite beams coated with functionally graded materials (FGMs) is investigated under the combined action of aero-thermoelastic loads and a concentrated harmonic excitation. The mathematical formulation is established using the Euler–Bernoulli beam theory, where von Kármán geometric nonlinearities are taken into account, along with the modified third-order piston theory to represent aerodynamic effects. By neglecting axial inertia, the resulting set of nonlinear governing equations is simplified into a single equation. This equation is discretized through the Galerkin procedure, yielding a nonlinear ordinary differential equation. An analytical solution is, then, obtained by applying the method of multiple time scales (MTS). Furthermore, a comprehensive parametric analysis is carried out to evaluate how factors such as the power-law index, stacking sequence, temperature field, load amplitude and position, free-stream velocity, and Mach number influence both the lateral dynamic deflection and the frequency response characteristics (FRCs) of the beams, offering useful guidelines for structural design optimization. For the first time, the influence of random parametric errors (RPEs) on the nonlinear dynamic behaviors of a laminated composite cantilever beam (LCCB) is studied. A nonlinear dynamic model for the LCCB is first established based on Hamilton’s principle. In a numerical simulation, four different cases are presented to analyze the dynamic behavior of the studied LCCB. This study reveals that varying RPE levels cause significant changes in the dynamic response of the LCCB. The results indicate that RPE not only induces a transition from a periodic to a chaotic behavior but may also alter the maximum amplitude of chaotic vibrations, providing a critical theoretical basis for incorporating uncertainty factors in engineering design. By applying the Non-Perturbative Approach (NPA), the corresponding linear differential equation is obtained. Aimed at organizational investigation, the resulting linear equation is used. Strong agreement between numerical calculations and the precise frequency is demonstrated, and the reliability of the results acquired is established by the correlation with the numerical solution. Additionally, this study explores a new control process to affect the stability and behavior of dynamic motorcycle systems that vibrate nonlinearly. A multiple time-scale method (MTSM) is applied to examine the analytical solution of the nonlinear differential equations describing the aforementioned system. Every instance of resonance was taken out of the second-order approximations. The simultaneous primary and 1:1 internal resonance case (Ωωeq, ω2ωeq) is recorded as the worst resonance case caused while working on the model. We investigated stability with frequency–response equations and bifurcation. Numerical solutions for the system are covered. The effects of the majority of the system parameters were examined. In order to mitigate harmful vibrations, the controller under investigation uses (PD) proportional derivatives with (PPF) positive position feedback as a new control technique. This creates a new active control technique called PDPPF. A comparison between the PD, PPF, and PDPPF controllers demonstrates the effectiveness of the PDPPF controller in reducing amplitude and suppressing vibrations. Unwanted consequences like chaotic dynamics, limit cycles, or loss of stability can result from bifurcation, which is the abrupt qualitative change in a system’s behavior as a parameter. The outcomes showed how effective the suggested controller is at reducing vibrations. According to the findings, bifurcation analysis and a control are crucial for designing vibrating dynamic motorcycle systems for a range of engineering applications. The MATLAB software is utilized to match the analytical and numerical solutions at time–history and frequency–response curves (FRCs) to confirm their comparability. Additionally, case studies and numerical simulations are presented to show how well these strategies work to control bifurcations and guarantee the desired system behaviors. The dynamic interaction between water and cylindrical structures can significantly affect the dynamic responses and properties of offshore structures. Among the key factors, the free-surface boundary condition plays a crucial role in determining the hydrodynamic forces on cylinders, leading to frequency-dependent added mass and damping effects. Although the dynamic responses of the cylinder can be readily obtained using frequency-domain methods, their computational efficiency is much lower than that of the time-domain methods, and they are not well suited for nonlinear structure analysis. To address this, this study proposes a time-domain substructure method for simulating water–cylinder interaction considering the boundary condition of free surface waves, where the frequency-dependent added mass and added damping are equivalently represented by a spring-dashpot-mass model in time domain. The results indicated that the calculation efficiency of the proposed method has improved by approximately two orders of magnitude compared with the frequency-domain finite element method. Moreover, the water–cylinder interaction can markedly influence the seismic responses with small mass ratios, whereas its effect on wave-induced responses becomes negligible when the wave period exceeds 5 s. The effects of the free-surface boundary condition on the wave responses of the cylinder can be generally negligible, except when the wave period approaches the natural vibration period of the cylinder. In addition, its influence on seismic responses can be ignored when the damping ratio of the cylinder exceeds 0.02. Full article

This study investigates the free vibration behaviors of functionally graded (FGM) plates with a porous structure, resting on a Kerr-type elastic foundation, while accounting for thermal effects and complex material property distributions. Within the framework of higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT), two novel shape functions are introduced to accurately model transverse shear deformation across the plate thickness without employing shear correction factors. These functions are constructed to satisfy shear stress boundary conditions and capture nonlinear effects induced by material gradation and porosity. A variational formulation is developed to describe the dynamic response of FGM plates in a thermo-mechanical environment, incorporating temperature-dependent material properties and three porosity distributions: uniform, linear, and trigonometric. Numerical solutions are obtained using in-house MATLAB codes, allowing complete control over the formulation and interpretation of the results. The model is validated through detailed comparisons with existing literature, demonstrating high accuracy. The findings reveal that the porosity distribution pattern and gradient intensity significantly influence natural frequencies and mode shapes. The trigonometric porosity distribution exhibits favorable dynamic performance due to preserved stiffness in the surface regions. Additionally, the Kerr-type elastic foundation enables fine tuning of the dynamic response, depending on its specific parameters. The proposed approach provides a reliable and efficient tool for analyzing FGM structures under complex loading conditions and lays the groundwork for future extensions involving nonlinear, time-dependent, and multiphysics analyses. This study investigates the nonlinear dynamics and control of an underactuated hybrid system consisting of a Duffing oscillator, a pendulum, and a piezoelectric energy harvester. A novel Piezoelectric Harvester Proportional–Derivative (PHPD) control scheme is introduced, which integrates the harvester’s electrical output directly into the feedback loop to achieve simultaneous vibration suppression and energy utilization. The nonlinear governing equations are derived and analyzed using the Multiple-Scale Perturbation Technique (MSPT) to obtain reduced-order dynamics. Bifurcation analysis is employed to identify stability boundaries and critical parameter transitions, while numerical simulations based on the fourth-order Runge–Kutta method validate the analytical predictions. Furthermore, frequency response curves (FRCs) and an ideal system are evaluated under multiple controller and system parameter configurations. Bifurcation classification is performed on the analyzed figure to detect various bifurcations within the system, along with the computation of the Largest Lyapunov Exponent (LLE). The results demonstrate that PHPD control significantly reduces vibration amplitude and accelerates convergence, offering a new pathway for energy-efficient, high-performance control in nonlinear electromechanical systems. Axially moving wings offer remarkable aerodynamic efficiency and adaptability; however, they are highly susceptible to detrimental vibrations that may compromise flight stability and structural integrity. Previous studies have mainly focused on simplified linear models or passive control approaches, leaving the nonlinear dynamic behavior and active vibration suppression insufficiently addressed. To overcome these limitations, this study models the wing as a simplified cantilever plate and investigates its nonlinear dynamics under varying load conditions. A proportional–derivative (PD) controller is employed, and approximate analytical solutions to the governing equations are derived using the multiple-scale perturbation method (MSPM). The system’s response under primary resonance is analyzed through frequency response and bifurcation studies, while stability is assessed using the Routh–Hurwitz criterion. Analytical findings are validated with numerical simulations in MATLAB R2023b. Furthermore, the influence of key structural parameters on system dynamics and controller performance is examined. The results demonstrate that the PD controller effectively suppresses vibrations, offering a reliable solution for enhancing the stability of axially moving wing systems. Full article

This paper investigates the nonlinear dynamics of the wheel-side planetary reducer, considering the tooth wear effect. The tooth wear model based on the Archard adhesion wear theory is established, and the impact of tooth wear on meshing stiffness and piecewise-linear backlash of the planetary gear system is discussed. Then, the torsional vibration model and dimensionless differential equations considering tooth wear for the wheel-side planetary reducer are established, in which meshing excitations include time-varying mesh stiffness (TVMS), piecewise-linear backlash, and transmission error. The dynamic responses are numerically solved using the fourth-order Runge–Kutta method. On this basis, the nonlinear dynamics, such as the bifurcation and chaos properties of the wheel-side planetary reducer with tooth wear, are analyzed. Simulation results demonstrate that the existence of tooth wear reduces meshing stiffness and increases backlash. The reduction in the meshing stiffness changes the bifurcation path and chaotic amplitude of the system, inducing chaotic phenomena more easily. The increase in the gear backlash causes a higher amplitude of the relative displacement and more severe vibration. Full article

A comprehensive understanding of aerodynamic instabilities, such as flutter, non-synchronous vibration (NSV), rotating stall, and forced response, is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of turbomachinery, particularly fans and compressors. These instabilities impose significant limitations on the operating envelope, necessitating precise monitoring and accurate quantification of vibration amplitudes during experimental investigations. This study addresses the challenge of measuring these amplitudes by comparing multiple measurement systems applied to the open-test case of the ultra-high bypass ratio (UHBR) fan ECL5. During part-speed operation, the fan exhibited a complex aeromechanical phenomenon, where an initial NSV of the second blade eigenmode near peak pressure transitioned to a dominant first-mode vibration. This mode shift was accompanied by substantial variations in blade vibration patterns, as evidenced by strain gauge data and unsteady wall pressure measurements. These operating conditions provided an optimal test environment for evaluating measurement systems. A comprehensive and redundant experimental setup was employed, comprising telemetry-based strain gauges, capacitive tip timing sensors, and a high-speed camera, to capture detailed aeroelastic behaviour. This paper presents a comparative analysis of these measurement systems, emphasizing their ability to capture high-resolution, accurate data in aeroelastic experiments. The results highlight the critical role of rigorous calibration procedures and the complementary use of multiple measurement technologies in advancing the understanding of turbomachinery instabilities. The insights derived from this investigation shed light on a complex evolution of instability mechanisms and offer valuable recommendations for future experimental studies. The open-test case has been made accessible to the research community, and the presented data can be used directly to validate coupled aeroelastic simulations under challenging operating conditions, including non-linear blade deflections.
