Originating in the US and subsequently diffusing across worldwide, honors education has been increasingly adopted in China. A central question is whether honors participation produces substantive changes in students’ learning or functions as symbolic participation. Drawing on samples of senior-year honors (N = 163) and non-honors undergraduates (n = 317) from two top elite universities in China, PSM estimation indicates that honors students do not demonstrate a significant advantage in competence development. However, focusing solely on outcome indicators may obscure the process through which honors education operates. On the one hand, PSM results also showed that honors students were more likely to engage in deep learning behavior. On the other hand, regression revealed that after adding the university as moderator, the significant effect of honors participation disappeared, while the roles of teaching and learning remained consistently stable. Moderated chain mediation analyses further indicated that the association between honors participation and competence development was primarily linked to student-centered teaching practices and deep learning engagement, and that this pathway varied across the two universities. Overall, the findings suggest that the benefits of honors education may derive less from honors affiliation itself and more from the substantive learning experiences fostered within honors contexts. These findings provide empirical support for reforms that place greater emphasis on learning processes and competence development within honors education. Full article

This paper addresses the critical challenge of accelerating the adoption of sustainable innovations by examining the interdependence between managerial credibility and consumer pragmatism. The aim of the study was to investigate how perceived trust in management influences purchase intention, specifically analysing both the mediating role of financial perceptions and the moderating effect of digital literacy. The study had a quantitative approach, with data being collected from 408 Romanian respondents. The statistical analysis was performed using JASP software (version 0.96.0.0), applying both multiple and simple linear regression as well as a mediation analysis (SEM). The results indicate that both perceived trust in management and the perception of innovation as an investment directly stimulate purchase intention such that that credible management can convince consumers of the financial benefits. However, even though digital literacy plays a fundamental role in consumers’ lives, it does not affect the relationship between managers’ credibility and the willingness to buy sustainable products. The paper concludes that for sustainable innovations to be financially successful, organisations must move beyond the green labelling and focus on building genuine strategic credibility. Therefore, these findings offer valuable insights for both managers and policymakers in their efforts to support the transition to a more sustainable market. Full article

Psychological empowerment is associated with women’s well-being, yet how it translates into life satisfaction in high-informality Latin American settings remains untested—as does whether empowerment must cross a threshold before any benefit appears. We tested mediation and moderation hypotheses as separate questions with 251 women aged 18–44 from three northern Peruvian regions using PLS-SEM with 5000 bootstrap resamples. Coping engagement fully mediated the empowerment–life satisfaction relationship (indirect β = 0.134, 95% CI [0.065, 0.213]; VAF = 87.6%; R2 [engagement] = 0.070, R2 [life satisfaction] = 0.285); the direct path was non-significant (β = 0.019, p = 0.754). Mediation and moderation were examined as separate analytical questions; the formal index of moderated mediation was non-significant, indicating that the indirect effect did not differ significantly across subgroups. In exploratory threshold analyses, empowerment predicted life satisfaction only above a normative cut-point anchored to the IMWE scoring manual (≥136; β = 0.382, p < 0.001); below it, the association was flat (β = 0.047, p = 0.547). This pattern is instrument-anchored rather than empirically derived and should be treated as hypothesis-generating pending replication with an independently optimized cut-point. Age moderated the engagement–satisfaction link (β = −0.239, p = 0.031), with stronger effects among younger women; motherhood amplified the negative impact of disengagement on satisfaction (β = −0.272, p = 0.021). Tentatively, programs that move participants only modestly along the empowerment continuum may under-deliver on well-being outcomes, though firm prescriptions require independent confirmation; tailored design for mothers and younger women is warranted. Transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) is a recent minimally invasive method of managing mitral regurgitation (MR) in dogs with myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD). As the goal of intervention is to minimize MR severity, this study aimed to determine the association between reduced MR and changes in myocardial work indices after TEER in dogs. Ten client-owned dogs with moderate-to-severe MR were enrolled in the study, and all underwent TEER with multimodal imaging guidance. Myocardial work was analyzed before and after the procedure, and the MR severity, transmitral pressure gradients, left atrial and ventricular measurements, and index of myocardial work (GWI: the total myocardial work during systole; GCW: work contributing to LV ejection; GWW: ineffective work that contributes to no forward displacement; and GWE: ratio of constructive work to total work) were calculated. TEER significantly reduced MR severity in the majority of dogs, and this MR decrease was associated with a greater efficiency of myocardial work, more constructive work, and less wasted energy. No significant negative associations of moderate post-procedure gradients with short-term clinical outcomes emerged. TEER-mediated reduction in MR improves myocardial function in dogs. However, long-term studies are also needed to examine the effects of residual MR and transmitral gradients on cardiac function and clinical outcome. Full article

The sustainable development of forest ecotourism relies on the effective stimulation of tourists’ environmentally responsible behavior, and the intervention of participatory art and aesthetics provides a new driving force for this process. Taking Xiqiaoshan National Forest Park (Nanhai Land Art Festival) as a case study, we propose an extended stimulus–organism–response (S-O-R) theoretical framework to reveal the psychological perception and transmission mechanism of participatory art and aesthetic experience in empowering the sustainable development of ecotourism. We used a hybrid approach combining PLS-SEM and artificial neural networks (ANNs) to analyze survey data from 596 Chinese tourists. The study found that sensory impressions driven by art and aesthetics significantly and positively influence tourists’ natural connections, perceived value, and ecotourism attitudes. These three constructs function as significant parallel mediators between sensory impressions and environmentally responsible behavior, while chain mediation effects are statistically significant but of small magnitude. The new environmental paradigm (NEP), conceptualized as an individual trait boundary condition, exhibits a significant negative moderating effect on the relationship between sensory impressions and connectedness to nature. ANN sensitivity analysis further complements the findings by demonstrating the prominent nonlinear predictive role of ecotourism attitudes in behavioral transformation. This study extends the application boundaries of the S-O-R theory to art-integrated ecotourism research, clarifies the internalization process of tourist experiences from sensory perception to behavioral enactment, and provides empirical evidence for forest tourism managers to optimize experience design and implement differentiated guidance strategies. Northern pike (Esox lucius) myofibrillar protein (MP) forms inherently weak gels due to endogenous proteolytic activity and the low thermal stability of fish myosin, limiting its application in surimi products. This study investigated the reinforcing effect and underlying mechanism of rice protein amyloid fibrils (RFs) on pike MP gels. Dynamic rheology revealed that RFs increased both the storage and loss moduli in a concentration-dependent manner, with the 5% group exhibiting an approximately threefold increase in the G′ at 100 rad/s relative to the control. The gel strength, hardness, and chewiness increased progressively with the RF content, whereas the water-holding capacity peaked at 1–3% RFs and declined sharply at 5% RFs. Microstructural imaging showed that moderate RF levels promoted a dense, homogeneous network architecture, while excessive RFs induced phase separation and structural heterogeneity. Hydrophobic interactions and hydrogen bonds were strengthened via RF incorporation, while disulfide bonds decreased monotonically with the increasing fibril concentration. FTIR spectroscopy revealed an α-helix-to-β-sheet transition, with the β-sheet content reaching a maximum of 49.37% at 3% RFs, and SDS-PAGE confirmed that the RF–MP interactions were predominantly non-covalent in nature. These results demonstrate that RFs reinforce pike MP gels through a molecular mechanism involving rigid fibrils acting as structural scaffolds within the protein network and a progressive shift from disulfide-mediated covalent crosslinking toward non-covalent stabilization via hydrophobic interactions and hydrogen bonding. The 1–3% RF range delivers the most balanced gel properties, while excessive fibril loading at 5% induces over-aggregation and impairs water retention. These findings establish amyloid fibrils as effective structural modifiers for freshwater fish gel products and provide a mechanistic basis for their application in surimi processing. Full article

This study investigates the psychological and contextual mechanisms through which consumers’ awareness of agriculture’s contribution to climate change translates into a willingness to pay (WTP) for low-carbon agricultural products. Drawing on data from Eurobarometer 93.2 (ZA7739; N = 24,193), the research applies a moderated mediation model (Hayes’ PROCESS Model 14) to examine the mediating role of support for mandatory environmental labelling and the moderating effect of residential context. The results indicate that climate change awareness is significantly and positively associated with WTP. Moreover, support for mandatory labelling partially mediates this relationship, suggesting that institutionalized transparency may serve as a key mechanism through which environmental concern becomes economically actionable. The findings further reveal that this indirect effect is moderated by the level of urbanization, being stronger in urban areas than in rural settings. This highlights the importance of socio-spatial context in shaping consumer responses to sustainability information. Overall, the study contributes to the literature on sustainable consumption by demonstrating that willingness to financially support low-carbon agriculture depends not only on environmental awareness but also on trust-enhancing policy instruments and contextual factors. The findings offer important implications for policymakers aiming to promote sustainable food systems through information-based regulation. Full article

With the rapid expansion of the pet economy, owner–pet matching outfits have grown increasingly popular among pet owners. Grounded in the extended theory of planned behavior, this study investigates the key determinants of pet owners’ purchase intentions and actual purchase behaviors toward owner–pet matching outfits, and explores the moderating effect of aesthetic risk on the intention–behavior transition. Questionnaire survey data from 222 pet owners were collected for empirical analysis, and regression analysis was adopted to verify the proposed research hypotheses. The empirical results reveal that subjective norms exert a direct promotional effect on consumer purchase behavior and indirectly boost such behavior through the partial mediating role of purchase intention. By contrast, behavioral attitude is positively associated with purchase intention and further stimulates purchase behavior via a full mediating pathway of purchase intention. Perceived behavioral control displays a significant positive direct impact on purchase behavior yet yields no significant effect on purchase intention. Furthermore, purchase intention serves as a robust positive predictor of purchase behavior, whereas aesthetic risk significantly weakens the association between purchase intention and purchase behavior. Brands are suggested to foster consumers’ favorable behavioral attitudes by optimizing product design, enriching practical functions, and minimizing potential risks to pets in owner–pet matching outfits. Meanwhile, enterprises should actively shape supportive subjective norms to popularize the owner–pet matching outfit wearing lifestyle. Additionally, brands need to enhance consumption accessibility through diversified sales channels, reasonable pricing strategies and abundant product style options. This study pioneers the application of the extended theory of planned behavior to the emerging field of owner–pet matching outfits, empirically verifying the positive effects of behavioral attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control on consumers’ purchase intention and purchase behavior. Background: Transformational leadership positively influences safety climate perceptions. Transformational leadership has four dimensions, and safety climate can be operationalized at different levels. Few research efforts, however, have been made to investigate the association between specific transformational leadership dimensions and safety climate at the individual level (i.e., psychological safety climate, PSC). Methods: Drawing on the interactive approach to forming safety climate, this study developed a multiple mediation model linking project team leaders’ intellectual stimulation (IS) to construction personnel’s PSC via safety-specific leader–member exchange (LMX) and team member exchange (TMX). A random sample (N = 292) of construction personnel based in Hong Kong is employed to validate the model. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to analyze the data. Results: Both safety-specific LMX (specific indirect effect = 0.189) and safety-specific TMX (specific indirect effect = 0.032) significantly mediate the relationship between IS and PSC, although the direct association between them is insignificant. Age significantly moderates the IS–PSC relationship, with a stronger association for younger personnel (β = 0.481, p < 0.001) than for older personnel (β = 0.195, p = 0.029). Conclusions: The findings reveal that the relationship between IS and PSC is fully mediated by safety-specific LMX and TMX, with vertical exchange (LMX) playing a substantially more prominent mediating role than lateral exchange (TMX). These results suggest that improving construction personnel’s PSC requires developing project team leaders’ intellectually stimulating skills and fostering high-quality leader–follower safety exchange within project teams. Background: Parenting stress is a known risk factor for children’s social anxiety, yet the mediating and moderating mechanisms underlying this relationship remain underexplored, particularly regarding gene–environment interactions. This quantitative, cross-sectional study, grounded in diathesis-stress and family process theories, examined whether maladaptive parenting mediates the link between parenting stress and children’s social anxiety, and whether FKBP5 gene variation moderates this mediation. Methods: A sample of 1774 fourth- to sixth-grade students (aged 10–14 years) and their parents participated. Parenting stress and maladaptive parenting were parent-reported, children’s social anxiety was self-reported, and children’s FKBP5-related cumulative genetic score was derived from four SNPs (rs4713916, rs1360780, rs3800373, rs9296158). Moderated mediation analyses were conducted. Results: Parenting stress was significantly and positively associated with children’s social anxiety. Maladaptive parenting partially mediated this relationship. The FKBP5 showed a marginally significant moderating effect, with simple slope analysis suggesting parenting stress was more strongly associated with child social anxiety among children with higher genetic risk. No moderating effect was found for the path from maladaptive parenting to social anxiety. Conclusions: Parenting stress is associated with children’s social anxiety both directly and indirectly through maladaptive parenting, with FKBP5-related cumulative genetic risk potentially moderating the direct effect. These findings offer preliminary evidence that may inform preventive interventions targeting parenting stress, although replication is needed. Full article

In the new development stage of China’s green and low-carbon transition, agricultural industry agglomeration serves as a key catalyst for sustainable agricultural practices. Its effects on agricultural carbon reduction and energy conservation urgently need investigation. This research uses panel data from 31 Chinese provinces spanning 2005 to 2021 to investigate the nonlinear effects of agricultural industry agglomeration on agricultural carbon emissions and energy consumption, employing econometric models such as the two-way fixed effects model, mediation model, and moderation model. The findings indicate that (1) there’s a clear inverted U-shaped pattern linking agricultural industry agglomeration to both carbon emissions and energy consumption in agriculture; (2) agricultural scale effects and socialized services are key mechanisms; (3) marketization and environmental regulation positively moderate this relationship; and (4) the carbon reduction and energy-saving effects are more pronounced in regions with higher agricultural modernization levels, higher urbanization rates, and plain areas. This finding contributes to optimizing the path of agricultural industry agglomeration and facilitates the synergy of carbon reduction and energy conservation in such agglomeration. Full article

Background/Objectives: Vitex agnus-castus L. is a well-known medicinal herb shown to be effective in treating gynecological disorders. However, no systematic comparative studies have been conducted between V. agnus-castus leaf extract (VACLE) and Vitex agnus-castus seed extract (VACSE). We performed gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) analysis of VACLE and VACSE and measured total phenolic and flavonoid contents. Methods: The bioactivity testing included antioxidants, antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, and antidiabetic activities. Results: A total of 55 GC–MS compounds were identified in VACLE and 34 in VACSE; isoamyl formate (27.96%) and a pyranone derivative (14.11%) were detected exclusively in VACLE, whereas cis-linoleic acid (40.58%) and palmitic acid (21.87%) predominated in VACSE. VACLE showed significantly higher TPC (94.12 vs. 54.12 mg GAE/g DW) and TFC (82.00 vs. 42.00 mg QE/g DW). The VACLE demonstrated moderate antioxidant activity and generally stronger bioactivity than VACSE, as evidenced by its lower ABTS+ radical scavenging IC50 value (55 vs. 70 μg/mL), antibacterial activity (MIC: 6.25–50 vs. 12.5–100 μg/mL), anticancer activity against HepG2 cells (IC50: 93.2 vs. 247.5 μg/mL), and antidiabetic activity through α-amylase inhibition (IC50: 28.7 vs. 70.1 μg/mL). VACSE exhibited greater antifungal activity than VACLE against all tested Candida strains, with the highest activity observed against C. parapsilosis (MIC: 6.25 ± 2.26 μg/mL). VACLE induced transcriptional changes consistent with caspase-mediated apoptosis, characterized by increased expression of caspase-8, caspase-9, and Bax and decreased expression of Bcl-2/Bcl-xL, pending protein-level confirmation. Conclusions: In conclusion, VACLE exhibits notable antioxidant, antibacterial, anticancer, and antidiabetic properties, whereas VACSE shows greater antifungal activity. These findings highlight tissue-specific differences in phytochemical composition and in vitro biological activities and provide a basis for future studies involving compound isolation, mechanistic validation, toxicity assessment, and in vivo evaluation. Phytolacca americana L. (pokeweed) is an invasive alien plant in China that experiences little herbivore or disease pressure, suggesting the presence of effective chemical defenses. Although insecticidal activity of P. americana tissues has been reported, its potential repellent effects against the diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (L.), remain unexplored. In this study, we further optimized distillation conditions to obtain fruit extract (FE) from P. americana. Subsequently, its chemical composition was analyzed. behavioral repellency, and antennal olfactory activity against P. xylostella adults. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) tentatively identified 11 compounds, accounting for 96–99% of the total distillate composition. The major constituents in the final distillate were palmitic acid ethyl ester (26.00%), 6,10,14-trimethyl-2-pentadecanone (25.75%), and ethyl oleate (14.19%). Behavioral assays using a Y-tube olfactometer demonstrated that the FE, as well as diethyl phthalate, palmitic acid ethyl ester, and ethyl oleate, exhibited strong repellent activity against adult P. xylostella, whereas 6,10,14-trimethyl-2-pentadecanone showed moderate repellency only at high concentrations (10 μg/μL). Electroantennogram (EAG) recordings revealed robust antennal responses to the three highly repellent compounds, with ethyl oleate eliciting the strongest response (0.58 mV at 100 μg/μL). Furthermore, Diethyl phthalate shows moderate repellency to P. xylostella. These results indicate that P. americana FE mediates repellency primarily through olfactory perception and that its major constituents contribute substantially to this effect. Overall, this study provides the first laboratory evidence that P. americana FE functions as an effective olfactory repellent against P. xylostella. The findings offer preliminary proof-of-concept for developing phytogenic repellents. Full article

Environmental efficiency is evaluated using a Global Super-SBM model incorporating undesirable outputs, while industrial agglomeration is measured by the location quotient index. A two-way fixed-effects model is employed for empirical estimation. The results reveal a significant inverted U-shaped relationship between industrial agglomeration and environmental efficiency, with a turning point at an agglomeration level of 2.519. Moderate agglomeration improves environmental efficiency through economies of scale and technology diffusion, whereas excessive agglomeration generates crowding effects that reduce efficiency. Further mechanism analysis shows that technology diffusion, proxied by the number of trained fishermen, plays a significant mediating role in this relationship. This study provides new empirical evidence on the nonlinear environmental effects of industrial agglomeration in freshwater aquaculture and offers policy implications for optimizing industrial spatial layout and developing differentiated environmental regulations to support the green and sustainable development of the sector. This study examines how the relationship between perceived financial accounting disclosures (FAD) and investor reactions to negative financial news (IRNFN) is conditioned by two individual-level moderators among 310 retail investors holding shares in project-based organisations (PBOs) listed on the Dubai Financial Market and Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange. The two moderators are framing bias susceptibility, a cognitive predisposition to be influenced by presentational form, and AI channel reliance (AICR), the extent to which investors rely on AI-mediated information channels—including algorithmic news aggregators, robo-advisory tools, AI-curated social media feeds, and automated sentiment-scored financial alerts—for receiving and interpreting corporate disclosures. Drawing on Behavioural Finance Theory and the Theory of Planned Behaviour, the study investigates whether the strength of the FAD–IRNFN association depends on these cognitive and informational processing conditions. The measurement model was estimated using confirmatory factor analysis in AMOS 25, and the moderation hypotheses were tested through path analysis with mean-centred composite scores and bias-corrected bootstrap inference, with a latent interaction robustness check reported in parallel. AI channel reliance emerged as a substantial moderator of the FAD–IRNFN relationship, while framing bias provided a smaller, marginally significant moderating effect. The findings are consistent with the theoretical expectation that, in AI-mediated information environments, the perceived quality and presentation of complex disclosures are associated with stronger, rather than weaker, investor reactions to negative news. Because the design is cross-sectional and based on self-reported data, the results are interpreted as associations rather than causal effects, with implications for disclosure regulation, corporate communication, and AI platform design in the UAE and comparable emerging markets.
