As online luxury fashion resale platforms continue to emerge and expand, persistent challenges related to trust and product authenticity have become increasingly pronounced. digital product passports (DPPs) offer a potential solution to these trust-related challenges by providing detailed information about a product, thereby enhancing product transparency and traceability throughout the product lifecycle. Drawing on signaling theory, this study investigates how DPP-enabled platforms influence consumers’ purchase intentions toward luxury fashion resale consumption. An online survey generated 307 valid responses. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed to test the proposed hypotheses. A multi-group chi-square difference test was also conducted to test the moderating role of DPP usage experience. The results demonstrate that trust and attitude are decisive predictors of consumers’ intention to purchase second-hand luxury fashion products from DPP-enabled platforms. Risk reduction alone does not directly drive intention, highlighting the distinction between eliminating uncertainty and fostering positive motivation. This study focuses on consumer perception and intention regarding DPPs within the luxury fashion resale market, an area that has received limited empirical attention. By integrating signaling theory with fashion resale and digital innovation, this study offers novel insights into the role of technological transparency in driving consumer engagement in circular fashion. Sustainable quinoa production in semi-arid regions is constrained by water scarcity and inefficient photoassimilate partitioning. This study evaluated the interactive effects of planting patterns and superabsorbent polymer (SAP) application rates (0, 60, and 90 kg·ha−1) on ‘Longli 5’ quinoa source–sink dynamics. Results demonstrated that ridge-furrow planting coupled with a moderate SAP rate (60 kg·ha−1, D1) synergistically optimized the soil moisture environment, enhancing the two-year average leaf area index (LAI) by 52.6–66.9% and net photosynthetic rate (Pn) by 5.45–10.64% (p < 0.05). Unlike the high SAP rate (90 kg·ha−1), “water luxury consumption” and low input efficiency dynamic which induced “water luxury consumption” and low input efficiency, the D1 treatment effectively promoted photoassimilate remobilization to grains by 13.39–14.44%. Unlike high SAP rates (90 kg·ha−1), which induced ‘water luxury consumption’ and low input efficiency, the D1 treatment effectively promoted photoassimilate remobilization to grains by 13.39–14.44%.This mechanism optimized source–sink coordination, resulting in a significant increase in seed yield and thousand-grain weight (p < 0.05). These findings conclude that a balanced source–sink allocation, rather than maximal source capacity alone, is the definitive driver of productivity. Integrating ridge-furrow planting with moderate SAP application (60 kg·ha−1) is a highly efficient agronomic strategy for harmonizing quinoa growth and achieving sustainable, high yields in semi-arid environments. Despite the global movement toward sustainable mobility, the adoption of electric and autonomous vehicles (EVs/AVs) in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries is shaped by unique socio-cultural and structural contingencies. This study provides a significant theoretical contribution by exploring market entry strategies through a multidimensional value framework that captures symbolic and contextual dimensions overlooked by traditional models such as TAM and UTAUT. Drawing on in-depth interviews, focus groups, and participant observations, the research utilizes Kuwait as a case study to delineate the multidimensional construct of perceived value through Osterwalder’s Value Proposition Canvas (VPC). The findings reveal that consumer adoption is influenced not only by utility and efficiency but also by social, emotional, epistemic, conditional, and cost values. Dealers, in turn, demonstrate how these values guide entry strategies for non-conventional vehicles by aligning product offerings with specific “Pain relievers”, “Gain creators”, and “Jobs to be done” (JTBD). The study identifies distinct encroachment pathways: high-end entry for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and low-end entry for hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). Notably, a dual-encroachment strategy is identified for high-tech Chinese brands, which are aggressively disrupting emerging markets by leveraging manufacturing efficiencies to dominate the mid-market while simultaneously deploying premium models to challenge luxury incumbents. Finally, despite the structural constraints on public AV deployment, the research highlights vital applications for autonomous systems within “industrial sandboxes” such as aviation, seaports, military, and oil sectors. While centered on Kuwait, the findings offer potentially transferable strategic insights for the broader GCC region. Full article

This paper integrates the Elastic Net-TVP-VAR-BK framework and constructs a high-dimensional multilayer frequency-domain network, including short-, medium-, and long-term layers, to investigate extreme risk spillovers among 56 industries in the Chinese stock market. We examine the topology of the multilayer network at the system, cross-sector, and industry levels, as well as from both static and dynamic perspectives. Using daily data on 56 industry indices from 1 March 2007 to 30 September 2024, our empirical results show that: (1) All multilayer network topologies, including edge structures, node characteristics, and spillover strengths, exhibit significant frequency heterogeneity, and the dynamic topology of the three-layer network shows fluctuations and directional differences during critical periods. (2) In most periods, the short-term layer exhibits stronger average spillover intensity and denser inter-industry linkages, suggesting that short-horizon risk transmission plays a more prominent role in rapid contagion. However, the medium- and long-term layers remain important for identifying persistent and structural risk transmission. (3) At the industry level, capital markets and textiles, apparel, and luxury goods within the short-term layer, food products, household products, and road and rail in the medium-term layer as well as construction and engineering, industrial conglomerates, trading companies and distributors, metals and mining, and distributors in the long-term layer, all demonstrate high cross-industry systemic importance and total systemic importance, thereby establishing themselves as key nodes within their respective frequency domains. The findings provide theoretical support for policymakers in formulating strategies to address market risks and offer important references for investors in asset allocation and risk management decisions. Winter wheat production in the extremely arid oasis region of Xinjiang relies heavily on irrigation and fertilization, but conventional high-input management can induce luxury transpiration and non-productive water consumption, limiting the coordinated improvement of grain yield, water use efficiency (WUE), and economic benefits. To identify the threshold at which water–fertilizer inputs shift from efficient use to inefficient water consumption and to define a robust management range, a two-year field experiment was conducted in southern Xinjiang during the 2022–2023 and 2023–2024 growing seasons. Four irrigation levels, corresponding to 60%, 80%, 100%, and 120% of crop evapotranspiration (ETc), and four fertilization levels were established to evaluate the effects of water–fertilizer interactions on canopy development, leaf gas exchange, evapotranspiration, yield, WUE, and economic benefits. Appropriate water and nutrient supply promoted canopy establishment and maintained higher photosynthetic capacity, thereby increasing grain yield, WUE, and net return. However, excessive inputs weakened yield gains and failed to synchronously improve WUE and economic benefits. Linear plateau models revealed clear thresholds in both the crop-stand scale evapotranspiration (ET)–dry matter accumulation (DM) relationship and the leaf-scale transpiration rate (Tr)–net photosynthetic rate (Pn) relationship. The seasonal ET thresholds were 504.59 and 553.87 mm in the two growing seasons, respectively, and the Tr threshold was 4.83 mmol m−2 s−1. Beyond these thresholds, additional water consumption was not effectively converted into photosynthetic assimilation or biomass accumulation, indicating luxury transpiration. Year-specific response surface analysis and TOPSIS evaluation showed that I3F3, namely 100% ETc combined with 210–195–75 kg ha−1 N–P2O5–K2O, together with its adjacent range, sustained high grain yield, WUE, and economic benefits, with I3F3 achieving the best overall performance in both years. The intersection of the two-year high-performance regions further defined a robust interannual feasible range with an irrigation amount of 506.21–545.09 mm and a total fertilizer input of 369.54–628.33 kg ha−1. Overall, maintaining water and fertilizer inputs within the I3F3-adjacent range can reduce non-productive water consumption and luxury transpiration risk while synergistically improving grain yield, WUE, and economic benefits in winter wheat. Although the economic importance of optimizing lighting systems and energy use in indoor farming is well known, there is a notable lack of studies focusing on economic trade-off analysis between agrivoltaic and grid-powered solutions integrated into light map analysis and revenue sensitivity assessments. To address this gap, this study investigates an indoor true vertical lettuce agrotunnel. Regional, seasonal, and market type sensitivity analyses were carried out on the prices and experimental yields to calculate the revenue from lettuce production. Technoeconomic analysis indicated that agrivoltaics outperformed the grid-only power supply by net present cost and levelized cost of electricity reductions of 13.2% and 44.2%, respectively. Photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) and daily light integral (DLI) were compared for the cases of 41–61 cm distances between the lights and the walls. With the 20 cm distance variations, 16.6–17.8% changes in the average PPFD were achievable without increasing energy consumption. In addition, annual revenue from lettuce green mix packs ranged from $61,735 to $86,164 USD for singles and from $83,603 to $116,685 USD for multiple plants per pot strategies, depending on the variety packs. Luxury and mid-range price categories kept the return on investment above 10% at all capital cost levels. The agrotunnel achieved the maximum specific yield of >70 kg/m2/year. Full article

Caviar extract is widely used in luxury cosmetics and is generally defined as a homogeneous ingredient derived exclusively from sturgeon eggs. However, its molecular composition remains inadequately characterised. In this study, proteomic analyses were performed on 14 commercial caviar samples from different sturgeon species and geographical origins, examined independently in two laboratories. Across three single-origin samples (Germany, Poland, China), 1437 protein groups and 3452 unique peptides were identified, with consistent overlaps with sturgeon ovarian fluid (≥25–38 proteins). Extending this analysis across multiple species confirmed the presence of ovarian fluid-associated proteins in all examined groups, including 69 in Acipenser baerii, 61 in A. gueldenstaedtii, 55 in A. schrenckii, and 49 in H. huso. The results showed that ovarian fluid is consistently co-extracted during standard roe harvesting processes due to its strong egg surface adhesion, making this co-extraction intrinsic rather than incidental. Proteomic profiling revealed a complex mixture of egg- and ovarian fluid-derived proteins, including zona pellucida glycoproteins, immunoglobulins, complement components, proteases, coagulation factors, and antioxidant enzymes. Many of these proteins influence skin biology, suggesting that the functional effects attributed to caviar extract may partially originate from ovarian fluid constituents rather than yolk-derived nutrients alone. At the same time, the presence of immune-active and enzymatic proteins raises important questions regarding safety assessment and regulatory oversight. Species-specific proteomic clustering also indicates considerable composition heterogeneity, challenging assumptions of ingredient standardisation. Together, these results highlight a discrepancy between current definitions and the molecular reality and underscore the need for improved molecular characterisation, updated regulatory definitions, and the consideration of alternative, cell-based production strategies for cosmetic applications. Social media platforms have become critical infrastructures for customer relationship management (CRM), requiring scalable and intelligent solutions to handle high-volume interactions. In the luxury fragrance sector, digital promotion poses a unique challenge because olfactory attributes cannot be experienced online. As a result, physical fragrance samples remain essential, generating large volumes of sample requests or inquiries across social media. However, many requests remain unmanaged due to limitations in manual CRM (i.e., human-driven processes), revealing a design gap that may negatively affect perceived responsiveness and service quality. This study uses qualitative content analysis with NVivo 12 to examine large-scale sample request interactions on the Facebook pages of four luxury fragrance brands. Data was collected via NCapture and analyzed to identify recurring patterns, linguistic structures, and customer expressions related to sample requests. Findings confirm frequent repetitive requests, highlighting inefficiencies in traditional CRM systems under high demand. This research proposes an AI-driven CRM Sample Request Management Architecture (CRM–SRMA) that systematically captures and processes customer sample requests, collects the necessary mailing information, and seamlessly transfers validated data to the final dispatching stage. The proposed system also models individual fragrance preferences by analyzing customers’ interactions with samples, particularly in terms of top, middle, and base notes. By leveraging this information, the architecture enables the targeted promotion of new fragrance releases that closely align with customers’ demonstrated olfactory preferences. The insights of this research provide a scalable, intelligent mechanism that enables luxury social media managers and CRM systems to manage high-volume interactions while maintaining service quality. By automating sample request processing, the mechanism improves responsiveness and reduces operational burden. It also supports long-term relationship building through preference tracking and updating customers with any new relevant-fragrance releases. Although focused on fragrances, the mechanism is adaptable to other luxury cosmetic categories, thereby ideally enhancing overall social media-based customer service. Full article

Integrating sustainability into luxury products poses fundamental challenges when brands introduce alternative materials made from recycled content that lack the intrinsic value of precious metals. This study investigates consumer perceptions and willingness to pay more for luxury jewelry made from alternative recycled materials among 357 consumers in the Bangkok Metropolitan Region. The conceptual framework examined five value dimensions (self-expression value, aesthetic value, social value, perceived natural rarity, and perceived sustainability) with pro-environmental self-identity as a moderating variable. The model explains 59.2% of the variance in willingness to pay more. Results confirm significant effects of all five dimensions, with aesthetic value as the strongest predictor. Pro-environmental self-identity significantly moderates the relationship between perceived sustainability and willingness to pay more. Despite high levels of sustainability awareness, the results reveal an attitude–behavior gap: environmental concern does not automatically translate into greater spending on sustainable luxury jewelry. This research contributes to the literature on sustainable luxury consumption by clarifying the relative importance of value dimensions and highlighting the conditional role of consumer identity in shaping the acceptance of price premiums. As China’s electric vehicle (EV) market transitions from rapid growth to high-quality development, competition among brands is shifting from purely technological aspects to more holistic expressions involving spatial design and brand positioning. This study investigates the coupling mechanism between spatial aesthetics and brand positioning and its influence on consumer purchase intention. Drawing on Gibson’s theory of spatial aesthetics and the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), we develop a theoretical framework that integrates perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of spatial aesthetics with brand cognition. Empirical analysis is conducted using coupling coordination degree modeling and multiple regression, based on 1576 valid questionnaires collected from 4S dealerships of nine major EV brands in China. The results indicate that spatial aesthetic elements—such as environmental visual flow, invariance, and affordance—positively affect consumers’ perceptions of technology and brand recognition. Furthermore, the degree of coupling between spatial aesthetics and brand positioning perceptions significantly enhances purchase intention, particularly among consumers of safety-oriented and luxury EV models. These findings confirm the synergistic effect of spatial experience and brand strategy in shaping consumer behavior, enriching the theoretical understanding of EV consumer psychology and offering practical guidance for strategic decision-making in product design and brand communication. Thailand’s 2024 excise tax reform aimed to stimulate the tourism economy through the elimination of import tariffs and the reduction in excise rates on wine. This study evaluates the causal economic and distributional impacts of this policy intervention. The analysis employs a quasi-experimental Doubly Robust Difference-in-Differences (DR-DiD) estimator on a stratified cluster sample to isolate shifts in consumption expenditure, volume, and net ethanol intake. Results indicate a null effect for the general population, which confirms that the price floor remained prohibitive for median earners despite the tax reduction. The top income quintile conversely exhibited a statistically significant “additive premiumization” effect characterized by a surge in wine quantity without the substitution of other beverage categories. This behavioral shift generated a substantial Net Economic Loss driven by the divergence between foregone tax revenue and projected human capital productivity losses. The policy consequently functioned as a regressive fiscal transfer to the elite and created severe allocative inefficiency. These findings suggest that ad valorem tax incentives for luxury goods in emerging markets generate deadweight loss. Future policy strategies should therefore prioritize specific volumetric taxation to align fiscal incentives with public health objectives. Full article

Nishijin weaving in Kyoto developed as a luxury textile for kimono, yet sustaining the district requires expansion toward contemporary apparel and markets. Within a silk-centred culture and quality regime, polyester has been adopted as a versatile option, and its use has increased, especially for kimono-related products, partly because its filament form can substitute for silk and fit existing processes. From this trajectory, we explore a craft–code–craft pathway by integrating a biodegradable polyester grade into Nishijin’s code-based Jacquard production (CGS). Through practice-based research, we trace how design intent is encoded (Houdini → CGS → Jacquard) and how shop-floor constraints reconfigure design (Jacquard → CGS → Houdini), revealing institutional constraints that shape which materials become usable. We report three case studies: (A) 3D woven structures informed by pleat parameterisation, (B) a zero-waste garment using a 25 cm repeat logic, and (C) a fashion show that makes translation processes legible to the public in an exhibition context. While biodegradable polyester can fit existing infrastructure, apparel-grade warp use remains under development due to warping and warp-joining requirements; yarn specifications and design parameters are being revised. By foregrounding translation across tools, roles, and standards, the study proposes pathways for material transition and circularity within a craft system. Full article

Consumer choice, liking, and preference can be assessed in different ways. We tested the application of a novel method called Hedonext® for the measurement of consumer liking and preference for extra virgin olive oil (EVOO). Consumers were instructed that they would be presented with up to eight olive oils and invited to taste each of them in sequence until they found the oil that they liked or preferred, thus ending the test, and that they would receive that oil as their reward. We compared the outcomes of the Hedonext Method to hedonic ratings on the nine-point hedonic scale of all eight oils, which were then analyzed by preference mapping. A total of 139 and 141 consumers, who consumed EVOO at least once a week and were evenly distributed by age (18–65 years old) and gender (60% women, 40% men), evaluated the set of olive oils from Italy, Spain, or California with Hedonext or the nine-point hedonic scale, respectively. The oils that were chosen most often by consumers in the Hedonext procedure were also the oils that received the highest mean hedonic ratings on the nine-point hedonic scale, and those picked the least often with Hedonext also received the lowest hedonic ratings. Traditional preference mapping from hedonic ratings and an alternative preference mapping approach through Hedonext also produced similar outcomes. The Hedonext Method was shorter to administer and was enjoyed by the consumers who experienced it because of its game-like nature. It does require, though, that the product under testing be perceived as valuable by consumers, as it serves as the reward for their participation. We conclude that the Hedonext Method represents a novel and valuable alternative to the 9-point hedonic scale, particularly for the evaluation of premium or luxury consumer products. Full article

This study examines the socio-economic and behavioral factors influencing sustainable consumption through secondhand clothing purchases among young consumers in Hanoi, Vietnam. By addressing the changing consumption patterns, this research contributes to understanding how youth behavior supports the transition toward sustainability in emerging urban markets. This research integrates the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) with additional constructs such as perceived economic benefits, environmental concern, perceived risk, shopping experience, and gender differences to provide an integrated socio-economic framework. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire administered to university students and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Results indicate that perceived economic benefits and subjective norms are the strongest predictors of purchase intention across both general and luxury secondhand fashion segments, emphasizing affordability and social acceptance. Environmental concern and attitude also positively influence general secondhand purchase intentions, while perceived behavioral control notably impacts luxury secondhand purchases. Contrary to prior studies, perceived risk was found to be insignificant, and male consumers exhibited a higher engagement rate than females in this context. These findings underscore the complex interplay of economic, social, and environmental dimensions shaping sustainable fashion consumption among youth. This study suggests targeted marketing and policy strategies to promote sustainable consumption and supports the expansion of circular economy practices in emerging urban markets. Limitations related to sample scope and self-reported data warrant further research to generalize the findings and explore additional moderating variables. Full article

This paper presents a hybrid fabrication method for producing anti-counterfeit optical elements on plastic products and surfaces targeting multidiscipline applications such as food, pharmaceuticals, luxury goods, and electronics industry. Our proposition combines the design flexibility and rapid prototyping capabilities of stereolithography three-dimensional (SLA 3D) printing with nanoimprint lithography (NIL) to create unique optical security tags onto plastic surfaces. The proposed approach is cost-effective, scalable, and tailored for mass production, addressing the increasing demand for secure and reliable authentication solutions. NIL is substrate agnostic, offering material selection versatility and realization of security tags onto polymer surfaces, which are widely used across various sectors such as packaging industry, medical devices, and flexible electronics. This enables integration into a wide range of materials, further enhancing applicability on flat and 3D shape surfaces. An evaluation method based on digital reconstruction has been used to ensure robust performance and verification of the produced optical security features. The results demonstrate that this hybrid approach provides a reproducible and technically feasible path for the development of optical anti-counterfeiting tags suitable for large-scale implementation, particularly within fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG).
