“The Internet of Things” is a relatively new idea that refers to objects that can connect to the Internet and exchange data. The Internet of Things (IoT) enables novel interactions between objects and people by interconnecting billions of devices. While there are many IoT-related products, challenges pertaining to their effective implementation, particularly the lack of knowledge and confidence about security, must be addressed. To provide IoT-based enterprises with a platform for efficiency and sustainability, this study aims to identify the critical elements that influence the growth of a successful company integrated with an IoT system. This study proposes a decision support tool that evaluates the influential features of IoT using the Pythagorean Fuzzy and Interval Grey approaches within the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). This study demonstrates that security, value, and connectivity are more critical than telepresence and intelligence indicators. When both strategies are used, market demand and information privacy become significant indicators. Applying the Pythagorean Fuzzy approach enables the identification of sensor networks, authorization, market demand, and data management in terms of importance. The application of the Interval Grey approach underscores the importance of data management, particularly in sensor networks. The indicators that were finally ranked are compared to obtain a good coefficient of agreement. These findings offer practical insights for promoting sustainability in enterprise operations by optimizing IoT infrastructure and decision-making processes. Full article

Colorectal cancer (CRC) constitutes a major global health concern, ranking as the third most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related mortality. The current review explores sex-based differences in CRC epidemiology, risk factors, tumor biology, and clinical outcomes. Males exhibit a higher incidence and mortality rate, with left-sided (distal) CRC predominating, while females are more frequently diagnosed with right-sided (proximal) tumors, which tend to be more aggressive and less responsive to conventional chemotherapy. Genetic disparities, including microsatellite instability and X-chromosome tumor suppressor genes, contribute to sex-specific differences in tumor progression and treatment response. Immune variations also influence disease outcomes, with females exhibiting stronger immune surveillance but higher exhaustion markers. Lifestyle factors such as body mass index (BMI), smoking, and hormonal influences further modulate CRC risk. While males are more vulnerable to obesity-related CRC, central obesity (waist-to-hip ratio) emerges as a stronger predictor in females. Additionally, smoking increases CRC risk differentially by tumor location. These findings underscore the importance of sex-specific approaches in CRC prevention, screening, and treatment, advocating for personalized medicine strategies tailored to gender-based biological and clinical distinctions. Surgical Margin Analysis in Osteosarcoma: Impact on Survival and Local Control

Background/Objectives: The quality of surgical margins has been shown to be a prognostic factor in many sarcoma entities, yet its role in osteosarcoma remains controversial. While previous studies have shown that the outcome was not related to the margin width in bone, the impact of the extraosseous margin width (margin at the soft tissue invasion)—which needs to be close sometimes due to neurovascular structures—needs to be assessed. This study aims to evaluate the influence of soft tissue surgical margins on local recurrence and overall survival in patients with high-grade osteosarcoma. Methods: We conducted a retrospective, single-center study including 75 patients treated for high-grade osteosarcoma. All patients underwent standardized neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by complete surgical resection. Patients were stratified into three groups based on the histological margin width of the extraosseous parts: group 1 (<1 mm), group 2 (1–5 mm), and group 3 (≥5 mm). Primary endpoints were local recurrence and overall survival (OS), analyzed using Kaplan–Meier estimates, log-rank tests, and Cox regression. Results: Local recurrence occurred in seven patients (9%). Although the overall comparison between the three groups was not statistically significant (p = 0.074), a subgroup analysis revealed a significantly higher recurrence rate in patients with margins < 1 mm compared to those with wider margins (p = 0.024). No significant differences in overall survival (OS) were observed between the groups (p = 0.896). Tumor location, metastatic status, and UICC stage were significant predictors for both endpoints in univariate analysis. However, none of these association were confirmed in multivariate analyses. Conclusions: Very close surgical margins (<1 mm) may increase the risk of local recurrence in high-grade osteosarcoma; however, they do not appear to affect overall survival. Full article

The method of extracting energy from a fluid environment using flapping foils offers advantages such as structural simplicity and environmental friendliness. However, its low energy harvesting efficiency remains a significant factor limiting its development. This study employs suction and blower-based control (SBC) to enhance the energy harvesting efficiency of flapping foils. Using an orthogonal experimental design and numerical methods, 49 representative combinations of SBC geometries were selected for numerical simulation. The effects and priority rankings of geometric parameters on foil performance were statistically analyzed. It was found that under the optimal geometry (the suction slot position is 0.54c, the injection slot position is 0.79c, the width of the slot is 0.015c, the angle of the suction slot is −3°, and the angle of the injection slot is −9°), the energy harvesting efficiency can reach 40.7%. Furthermore, under laminar flow conditions, the benefit of SBC increases with higher Reynolds numbers (Re). At Re = 2200, SBC maximized the improvement in energy harvesting efficiency by 76%. No significant correlation was observed between the flapping amplitude and the SBC effect. However, the reduced frequency significantly influences the efficiency improvement generated by SBC. The SBC method shifts the foil’s optimal operating region towards lower reduced frequencies, which benefits energy harvesting efficiency. The research presented herein may have potential applications in the development of marine energy systems and bio-inspired propulsion. Full article

The Research Integrity Risk Index (RI2), introduced as a tool to identify universities at risk of compromised research integrity, adopts an overly reductive methodology by combining retraction rates and delisted journal proportions into a single, equally weighted composite score. While its stated aim is to promote accountability, this commentary critiques the RI2 index for its flawed assumptions, lack of empirical validation, and disproportionate penalization of institutions in low- and middle-income countries. We examine how RI2 misinterprets retractions, misuses delisting data, and fails to account for diverse academic publishing environments, particularly in Indonesia, where many high-performing universities are unfairly categorized as “high risk” or “red flag.” The index’s uncritical reliance on opaque delisting decisions, combined with its fixed equal-weighting formula, produces volatile and context-insensitive scores that do not accurately reflect the presence or severity of research misconduct. Moreover, RI2 has gained significant media attention and policy influence despite being based on an unreviewed preprint, with no transparent mechanism for institutional rebuttal or contextual adjustment. By comparing RI2 classifications with established benchmarks such as the Scimago Institution Rankings and drawing from lessons in global development metrics, we argue that RI2, although conceptually innovative, should remain an exploratory framework. It requires rigorous scientific validation before being adopted as a global standard. We also propose flexible weighting schemes, regional calibration, and transparent engagement processes to improve the fairness and reliability of institutional research integrity assessments. In the attention-driven environment of online video platforms, understanding the factors that influence content selection and channel subscriptions is crucial for creators, marketers, and platform managers. This study investigates how thumbnails, view counts, video length, genre, and the number of advertisements affect user decision-making on YouTube. Grounded in random utility theory and reference-dependent preference theory, this study conducted a choice experiment with 525 respondents and employed a combined model of rank-ordered and binary logit methods to analyze viewing and subscription behaviors. The results indicate a significant preference for thumbnails with subtitles and shorter videos. Notably, we found evidence of reference-dependent effects, whereby a higher-than-expected number of ads decreased viewing probability, while a lower-than-expected number significantly increased subscription probability. This study advances our understanding of the factors that influence user behavior on social media, specifically in terms of viewing and subscribing, and empirically supports prospect theory in the online advertising market. Our findings offer both theoretical and practical insights into optimizing video content and monetization strategies in competitive social media markets. Full article

The exponential growth of lithium-ion battery consumption has amplified the urgency of identifying sustainable and economically viable recycling solutions. This study proposes an integrated decision-making framework based on the T-Spherical Fuzzy Einstein Interaction Aggregator DEMATEL-CoCoSo approach to comprehensively evaluate and rank battery recycling technologies under uncertainty. Ten key evaluation criteria—encompassing environmental, economic, and technological dimensions—were identified through expert consultation and literature synthesis. The T-Spherical Fuzzy DEMATEL method was first applied to analyze the causal interdependencies among criteria and determine their relative weights, revealing that environmental drivers such as energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and waste generation exert the most systemic influence. Subsequently, six recycling alternatives were assessed and ranked using the CoCoSo method enhanced by Einstein-based aggregation, which captured the complex interactions present in the experts’ evaluations and assessments. Results indicate that Direct Recycling is the most favorable option, followed by the Hydrometallurgical and Bioleaching methods, while Pyrometallurgical Recycling ranked lowest due to its high energy demands and environmental burden. The proposed hybrid model effectively handles linguistic uncertainty, expert variability, and interdependent evaluation structures, offering a robust decision-support tool for sustainable technology selection in the circular battery economy. The framework is adaptable to other domains requiring structured expert-based evaluations under fuzzy environments. Full article

Background/Objectives: Aging is associated with a gradual decline in physical capabilities, often leading to impaired balance and reduced functional status, which are major contributors to falls in older adults. Although many studies have assessed these variables independently, a limited amount of research has explored the direct relationship between balance and functional status in a healthy geriatric population. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between balance and functional capacity and to assess the influence of demographic factors such as age, comorbidities, smoking status, and history of falls. Methods: A sample of community-dwelling older adults (19 women, 16 men) (n = 35), aged 60 years and above (M = 78 years; SD = 9.23) from Sparta, Greece, took part in the present study. Participants were assessed using three validated tools: (a) the Five Times Sit-to-Stand test, (b) the Timed Up-and-Go test, and (c) the Berg Balance Scale. Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient was used for statistical analysis (α = 0.05). Results: Age was positively correlated with poorer performance in the Five Times Sit-to-Stand (r = 0.40; p < 0.01) and the Timed Up-and-Go test (r = 0.47; p < 0.01) and negatively correlated with Berg Balance Scale scores (r = −0.51; p < 0.01). Comorbidities and smoking were also associated with the Berg Balance Scale. A strong negative correlation was observed between balance and the other two functional tests (Five Times Sit-to-Stand: r = −0.51; Timed Up-and-Go: r = −0.66; both p < 0.01). Conclusions: The findings highlight the importance of evaluating both balance and functional capacity in older adults as interrelated factors that can significantly influence quality of life and fall risk. Future research with larger and more diverse populations is recommended to confirm the present findings and to use exercise programs to prevent falls in the geriatric population. Full article

In this study, we aimed to address the lack of systematic research on key collision dynamics parameters (elastic restitution coefficient) in the full mechanization of rapeseed operations, which hinders the development of precision agriculture. In this present work, the restitution coefficient of rapeseed was systematically investigated, and a predictive model (R2 = 0.959) was also established by using Box–Behnken design response surface methodology (BBD-RSM). The results show that the collision restitution coefficient varies in the range of 0.539–0.649, with the key influencing factors ranked as follows: moisture content (Mc) > material layer thickness (L) > drop height (H). The EDEM simulation methodology was adopted to validate the experimental results, and the results show that there is a minimal relative error (−1% < δ < 1%) between the measured and simulated rebound heights, indicating that the established model shows a reliable prediction performance. Moreover, by comprehensively analyzing stress, strain, and energy during the collision process between rapeseed and Q235 steel, it can be concluded that the process can be divided into five stages—free fall, collision compression, collision recovery, rebound oscillation, and rebound stabilization. The maximum stress (1.19 × 10−2 MPa) and strain (6.43 × 10−6 mm) were observed at the beginning of the collision recovery stage, which can provide some theoretical and practical basis for optimizing and designing rapeseed machines, thus achieving the goals of precise control, harvest loss reduction, and increased yields. Polysaccharides and phenols are commonly co-localized in various plant-derived foods, including highland barley (Hordeum vulgare L. var. nudum Hook. f.). The interactions between these compounds can influence multiple characteristics of food products, including their physicochemical properties and functional performance, such as bioavailability, stability, and digestibility, which may support promising application of the phenol and polysaccharide complex in health food industry. In this study, two complexes with potential existence in highland barley, such as β-glucan-ferulic acid (GF) and β-glucan-quercetin (GQ), were prepared using the equilibrium dialysis method in vitro. FTIR and SEM results showed that ferulic acid and quercetin formed complexes with β-glucan separately, with covalent and non-covalent bonds and a dense morphological structure. The pH value, reaction temperature, and concentration of phosphate buffer solution (PBS) were confirmed to have an impact on the formation and yield of the complex. Through the test of the response surface, it was found that the optimum conditions for GF and (GQ) preparations were a pH of 6.5 (6), a PBS buffer concentration of 0.08 mol/L (0.3 mol/L), and a temperature of 8 °C (20 °C). Through in vitro assays, GF and GQ were found to possess good antioxidant activity, with a greater scavenging effect of DPPH, ABTS, and hydroxyl radical than the individual phenolic acids and glucans, as well as their physical mixtures. Taking GF as an example, the DPPH radical scavenging capacity ranked as GF (71.74%) > ferulic acid (49.50%) > PGF (44.43%) > β-glucan (43.84%). Similar trends were observed for ABTS radical scavenging (GF: 54.56%; ferulic acid: 44.37%; PGF: 44.95%; β-glucan: 36.42%) and hydroxyl radical elimination (GF: 39.16%; ferulic acid: 33.06%; PGF: 35.51%; β-glucan: 35.47%). In conclusion, the convenient preparation method and excellent antioxidant effect of the phenol–polysaccharide complexes from highland barley provide new opportunities for industrial-scale production, development, and design of healthy food based on these complexes. Burnout syndrome is a growing concern in higher education, affecting the psychological well-being and performance of university professors. This systematic review presents a narrative synthesis of findings from quantitative studies on sociodemographic and psychosocial determinants of academic burnout. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, sixty peer-reviewed articles published between Jan 2019 and May 2024 were selected from Scopus and Web of Science. Inclusion criteria required validated psychometric instruments and exclusive focus on university faculty. Methodological quality was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale and CASP checklist. Data from approximately 43,639 academic staff were analyzed. Key risk factors identified include excessive workload, lack of institutional support, and workplace conflict. In contrast, collegial support, participative leadership, and job satisfaction functioned as protective elements. Variables such as age, gender, academic rank, and employment stability significantly influenced burnout vulnerability. While general patterns were observed across studies, differences in design and sampling require caution in generalization. The evidence supports the implementation of integrated strategies encompassing mental health programs, workload regulation, participatory governance, and culturally responsive approaches. These findings inform the development of institutional policies aimed at preventing burnout and fostering academic well-being. Future research should adopt longitudinal and cross-cultural designs to further explore burnout trajectories and support educational reform. Full article

Methods: In this single-center, retrospective, intra-individual comparative analysis, 18 patients undergoing two consecutive 18F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT scans for biochemical relapse (BCR) or persistence (BCP)—one with and one without prior furosemide administration—were included. Images were acquired 60 min post-injection of 250 MBq of tracer activity. Standardized Uptake Values (SUVmax, SUVpeak, SUVmean) were measured in the bladder and in tissues with physiological uptake by three readers. Differences were analyzed using Wilcoxon signed-rank tests. The inter-reader agreement was assessed using intraclass correlation coefficient. Results: Furosemide significantly decreased bladder SUVmax, SUVpeak, and SUVmean (all p < 0.001). Mean bladder SUVmax decreased from 13.20 ± 10.40 to 3.92 ± 3.47, SUVpeak from 10.94 ± 8.02 to 3.47 ± 3.13, and SUVmean from 8.74 ± 6.66 to 2.81 ± 2.56, representing a large effect size (r ≈ 0.55). Physiological tracer uptake in most organs was not significantly influenced by furosemide (all p > 0.05). Conclusions: Despite the predominantly hepatobiliary clearance of 18F-PSMA-1007, furosemide-induced forced diuresis leads to a significant reduction in tracer activity in the bladder, which in clinical practice could help in early detection of tumor recurrence. The development of the Great Wall National Cultural Park has unleashed the potential for integrating cultural and tourism development along the Great Wall. However, ICH along the Great Wall, a key part of its cultural identity, suffers from low recognition and a mismatch between protection and development efforts. This study analyzes provincial-level and above ICH along Hebei’s Great Wall using geospatial tools and the Geographical Detector model to explore distribution patterns and influencing factors, while Geographically Weighted Regression is utilized to reveal spatial heterogeneity. It tests two hypotheses: (H1) ICH shows a clustered pattern; (H2) economic factors have a greater impact than cultural and natural factors. Key findings show: (1) ICH distribution is numerically balanced north–south but spatially uneven, with dense clusters in the south and scattered patterns in the north. (2) ICH and crafts cluster significantly, while dramatic balladry spreads evenly, and other categories are random. (3) Average annual temperature and precipitation have the greatest impact on ICH distribution, with the factors ranked as: natural > cultural > economic. Multidimensional interactions show significant enhancement effects. (4) Influencing factors vary spatially. Population density, transport, temperature, and traditional villages are positively related to ICH. Elevation, precipitation, tourism, and cultural institutions show mixed effects across regions. These insights support targeted ICH conservation and sustainable development in the Great Wall cultural corridor. Full article

The evaluation of large language models (LLMs) increasingly relies on other LLMs acting as automated judges. While this approach offers scalability and efficiency, it raises serious concerns regarding evaluator reliability, positional bias, and ranking stability. This paper presents a scalable framework for diagnosing positional bias and instability in LLM-based evaluation by using controlled pairwise comparisons judged by multiple independent language models. The system supports mirrored comparisons with reversed response order, prompt injection, and surface-level perturbations (e.g., paraphrasing, lexical noise), enabling fine-grained analysis of evaluator consistency and verdict robustness. Over 3600 pairwise comparisons were conducted across five instruction-tuned open-weight models using ten open-ended prompts. The top-performing model (gemma:7b-instruct) achieved a 66.5% win rate. Evaluator agreement was uniformly high, with 100% consistency across judges, yet 48.4% of verdicts reversed under mirrored response order, indicating strong positional bias. Kendall’s Tau analysis further showed that local model rankings varied substantially across prompts, suggesting that semantic context influences evaluator judgment. All evaluation traces were stored in a graph database (Neo4j), enabling structured querying and longitudinal analysis. The proposed framework provides not only a diagnostic lens for benchmarking models but also a blueprint for fairer and more interpretable LLM-based evaluation. These findings underscore the need for structure-aware, perturbation-resilient evaluation pipelines when benchmarking LLMs. The proposed framework offers a reproducible path for diagnosing evaluator bias and ranking instability in open-ended language tasks. Future work will apply this methodology to educational assessment tasks, using rubric-based scoring and graph-based traceability to evaluate student responses in technical domains. Full article

Application of Microwaves to Reduce Checking in Low-Fat Biscuits: Impact on Sensory Characteristics and Energy Consumption

The use of microwaves (MWs) has been proposed as an energy-efficient method for reducing checking. Along with understanding moisture distribution, it is essential to consider structural characteristics to explain how MWs reduce checking. The influence of MWs on these characteristics depends on the food matrix’s dielectric and viscoelastic properties, which vary significantly between fresh and pre-baked dough. This study investigates the effects of MW treatment applied before (MW-O) or after conventional oven baking (O-MW) on low-fat biscuits that are prone to checking. Color (CIELab), thickness, moisture content and distribution, checking rate, texture, sensory properties, energy consumption and baking time were analyzed. The findings suggest that MWs reduce checking rate by eliminating internal moisture differences, while also changing structural properties, as evidenced by increased thickness and hardness. MW-O eliminated checking (control samples showed 100%) but negatively affected color, texture (increased hardness and breaking work), and sensory quality. The O-MW checking rate (3.41%) was slightly higher than in MW-O, probably due to the resulting different structural properties (less thickness, less hardness and breaking work). O-MW biscuits were the most preferred by consumers (54.76% ranked them first), with color and texture close to the control samples. MW-O reduced total energy consumption by 16.39% and baking time by 25.00%. For producers, these improvements could compensate for the lower biscuit quality. O-MW did not affect energy consumption but reduced baking time by 14.38%. The productivity improvement, along with the reduction in checking and the satisfactory sensory quality, indicates that O-MW could be beneficial for the bakery sector. Full article
