Improving carbon emission efficiency (CEE) is crucial for coordinating economic development and reducing carbon emissions. Drawing on panel data for 30 provinces in China from 2013 to 2022, this paper selects six key antecedent conditions guided by the Technology–Organization–Environment (TOE) framework. Then the dynamic qualitative comparative analysis (DQCA) is employed to explore CEE improvement pathways from a configurational perspective, and regression analysis is used to compare the driving effects of different pathways. The findings reveal that (1) single factors cannot independently achieve high CEE; instead, multiple factors must work synergistically to form various improvement pathways, including “technology–organization dual-driven”, “environment-dominated”, and “multi-equilibrium” pathways, with industrial structure upgrading as the core factor for improving CEE; (2) temporally, these improvement pathways demonstrate universality, while, spatially, they exhibit significant provincial heterogeneity; and (3) in terms of marginal effects, the “multi-equilibrium” pathway has the strongest driving effect on CEE. The findings provide valuable policy implications for developing targeted CEE enhancement strategies across provinces at different developmental stages. Full article

Wheeled rovers are widely used in lunar and planetary exploration missions owing to their mechanical simplicity and energy efficiency. However, they face serious mobility challenges on sloped soft terrain, especially in terms of sideslip and loss of attitude angle when traversing across slopes. Previous research proposed using wheelbase extension/contraction and intentionally sinking wheels into the ground, thereby increasing shear resistance and reducing sideslip. Building upon this concept, this study proposes a novel recovery method that integrates beam extension/contraction and Archimedean screw-shaped wheels to enable lateral movement without rotating the rover body. The beam mechanism allows for independent wheel movement, maintaining stability by anchoring stationary wheels during recovery. Meanwhile, the helical structure of the screw wheels helps reduce lateral earth pressure by scraping soil away from the sides, improving lateral drivability. Driving experiments on a sloped sandbox test bed confirmed that the proposed 2DPPL (two-dimensional push-pull locomotion) method significantly reduces sideslip and prevents a drop in attitude angle during slope traversal. The widespread adoption of electric buses represents a major step forward in sustainable transportation, but also brings new operational challenges, particularly in terms of improving their efficiency and controlling costs. Therefore, battery energy consumption management is a key approach for addressing these issues. Accurate prediction of energy consumption and interpretation of the influencing factors are essential for improving operational efficiency, optimizing energy use, and reducing operating costs. Although existing studies have made progress in battery energy consumption prediction, challenges remain in achieving high-precision modeling and conducting a comprehensive analysis of the influencing features. To address these gaps, this study proposes a two-layer stacking framework for estimating the energy consumption of electric buses. The first layer integrates the strengths of three nonlinear regression models—RF (Random Forest), GBDT (Gradient Boosted Decision Trees), and CatBoost (Categorical Boosting)—to enhance the modeling capacity for complex feature relationships. The second layer employs a Linear Regression model as a meta-learner to aggregate the predictions from the base models and improve the overall predictive performance. The framework is trained on 2023 operational data from two electric bus routes (NO. 355 and NO. W188) in Changsha, China, incorporating battery system parameters, driving characteristics, and environmental variables as independent variables for model training and analysis. Comparative experiments with various ensemble models demonstrate that the proposed stacking framework exhibits superior performance in data fitting. Furthermore, XGBoost (Extreme Gradient Boosting, version 2.1.4) is introduced as a surrogate model to approximate the decision logic of the stacking framework, enabling SHAP (SHapley Additive exPlanations) analysis to quantify the contribution and marginal effects of influencing features. The proposed stacked and surrogate models achieved superior battery energy consumption prediction accuracy (lowest MSE, RMSE, and MAE), significantly outperforming benchmark models on real-world datasets. SHAP analysis quantified the overall contributions of feature categories (battery operation parameters: 56.5%; driving characteristics: 42.3%; environmental data: 1.2%), further revealing the specific contributions and nonlinear influence mechanisms of individual features. These quantitative findings offer specific guidance for optimizing battery system control and driving behavior. Full article

Background/Objectives: Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is a heterogeneous clonal hematopoietic disorder characterized by ineffective hematopoiesis and leukemic transformation risk. Current therapies show limited efficacy, with ~50% of patients failing hypomethylating agents. This review aims to synthesize recent discoveries through an integrated network model and examine translation into precision therapeutic approaches. Methods: We reviewed breakthrough discoveries from the past three years, analyzing single-cell multi-omics technologies, epitranscriptomics, stem cell architecture analysis, and precision medicine approaches. We examined cell-type-specific splicing aberrations, distinct stem cell architectures, epitranscriptomic modifications, and microenvironmental alterations in MDS pathogenesis. Results: Four interconnected mechanisms drive MDS: genetic alterations (splicing factor mutations), aberrant stem cell architecture (CMP-pattern vs. GMP-pattern), epitranscriptomic dysregulation involving pseudouridine-modified tRNA-derived fragments, and microenvironmental changes. Splicing aberrations show cell-type specificity, with SF3B1 mutations preferentially affecting erythroid lineages. Stem cell architectures predict therapeutic responses, with CMP-pattern MDS achieving superior venetoclax response rates (>70%) versus GMP-pattern MDS (<30%). Epitranscriptomic alterations provide independent prognostic information, while microenvironmental changes mediate treatment resistance. Conclusions: These advances represent a paradigm shift toward personalized MDS medicine, moving from single-biomarker to comprehensive molecular profiling guiding multi-target strategies. While challenges remain in standardizing molecular profiling and developing clinical decision algorithms, this systems-level understanding provides a foundation for precision oncology implementation and overcoming current therapeutic limitations. How to Compensate Forest Ecosystem Services Through Restorative Justice: An Analysis Based on Typical Cases in China

The ongoing degradation of global forests has severely weakened ecosystem service functions, and traditional judicial remedies have struggled to quantify intangible ecological losses. China has become an important testing ground for restorative justice through the establishment of specialized environmental courts and the practice of environmental public interest litigation. Since 2015, China has actively explored and institutionalized the application of the concept of restorative justice in its environmental justice reform. This concept emphasizes compensating environmental damages through actual ecological restoration acts rather than relying solely on financial compensation. This shift reflects a deep understanding of the limitations of traditional environmental justice and an institutional response to China’s ecological civilization construction, providing critical support for forest ecosystem restoration and enabling ecological restoration activities, such as replanting and re-greening, habitat reconstruction, etc., to be enforced through judicial decisions. This study conducts a qualitative analysis of judicial rulings in forest restoration cases to systematically evaluate the effectiveness of restorative justice in compensating for losses in forest ecosystem service functions. The findings reveal the following: (1) restoration measures in judicial practice are disconnected from the types of ecosystem services available; (2) non-market values and long-term cumulative damages are systematically underestimated, with monitoring mechanisms exhibiting fragmented implementation and insufficient effectiveness; (3) management cycles are set in violation of ecological restoration principles, and acceptance standards lack function-oriented indicators; (4) participation of key stakeholders is severely lacking, and local knowledge and professional expertise have not been integrated. In response, this study proposes a restorative judicial framework oriented toward forest ecosystem services, utilizing four mechanisms: independent recognition of legal interests, function-matched restoration, application of scientific assessment tools, and multi-stakeholder collaboration. This framework aims to drive a paradigm shift from formal restoration to substantive functional recovery, providing theoretical support and practical pathways for environmental judicial reform and global forest governance. Automated vehicles controlled by artificial intelligence are becoming capable of making moral decisions independently. This study investigates the differences in participants’ perceptions of the moral decision-maker’s permissibility when viewing scenarios (pre-test) and after witnessing the outcomes of moral decisions (post-test). It also investigates how permissibility, ten typical moral emotions, and perceived moral agency fluctuate when AI and the human driver make deontological or utilitarian decisions in a pedestrian-sacrificing dilemma (Experiment 1, N = 254) and a driver-sacrificing dilemma (Experiment 2, N = 269) from a third-person perspective. Moreover, by conducting binary logistic regression, this study examined whether these factors could predict the non-decrease in permissibility ratings. In both experiments, participants preferred to delegate decisions to human drivers rather than to AI, and they generally preferred utilitarianism over deontology. The results of perceived moral emotions and moral agency provide evidence. Moreover, Experiment 2 elicited greater variations in permissibility, moral emotions, and perceived moral agency compared to Experiment 1. Moreover, deontology and gratitude could positively predict the non-decrease in permissibility ratings in Experiment 1, while contempt had a negative influence. In Experiment 2, the human driver and disgust were significant negative predictor factors, while perceived moral agency had a positive influence. These findings deepen the comprehension of the dynamic processes of autonomous driving’s moral decision-making and facilitate understanding of people’s attitudes toward moral machines and their underlying reasons, providing a reference for developing more sophisticated moral machines. Clonal hematopoiesis of intermediate potential (CHIP) is the presence of a clonally expanded hematopoietic stem cell because of a mutation in individuals without evidence of hematologic malignancy, dysplasia, or cytopenia. Interestingly, CHIP is associated with a two-fold increase in cardiovascular risk, independently of traditional risk factors. Recent studies using deep-targeted sequencing have revealed that CHIP mutations, primarily TET2 and DNMT3A, present a higher incidence in patients with AF compared to healthy controls. Moreover, the presence of the aforementioned mutations is positively correlated with the progression and the severity of the AF clinical course. Regarding the predisposition of AF, it has been proven that TET2 and ASXL1 mutations, and not DNMT3A mutation, are associated with higher interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels. IL-6 levels, being indices of cardiac remodeling, predispose to an elevated risk for AF in healthy subjects. Currently conducted research has focused on elaborating the mechanisms driving the association between AF and CHIP and on the evaluation of potential interventions to reduce the risk of AF development. The aims of our review are (i) to summarize published evidence regarding the presence of CHIP mutations as a contributor to AF severity and predisposition, and (ii) to highlight the potential benefits of investigating the correlations between CHIP and AF for AF-diagnosed patients. Modern aircraft increasingly utilizes highly integrated electronic equipment, driving continuously increasing heat dissipation demands. Vapor compression refrigeration systems demonstrate stronger alignment with future aircraft thermal management trends, leveraging their superior volumetric cooling capacity, high energy efficiency, and independence from engine bleed air. This paper reviews global research progress on aircraft vapor compression refrigeration systems, covering performance optimization, dynamic characteristics, control strategies, fault detection, and international development histories and typical applications. Analysis identifies emerging challenges under large-temperature-range cooling requirements, with comparative assessment establishing zeotropic mixture auto-cascade vapor compression refrigeration systems as the optimal forward-looking solution. Finally, recognizing current research gaps, we propose future research directions for onboard auto-cascade vapor compression refrigeration systems: optimizing refrigerant mixtures for flight conditions, achieving efficient gas-liquid separation during variable overloads and attitude conditions, and developing model predictive control with intelligent optimization to ensure reliability. Osteosarcoma (OS), the most common primary bone cancer of mesenchymal origin in children and young adolescents, remains a challenge due to metastasis and resistance to chemotherapy. It displays severe aneuploidy and a high mutation frequency which drive tumor initiation and progression; however, recent studies have highlighted the role of epigenetic modifications as a key driver of OS pathogenesis, independent of genetic mutations. DNA and RNA methylation, histone modifications and non-coding RNAs are among the major epigenetic modifications which can modulate the expression of oncogenes. Abnormal activity of these mechanisms contributes to gene dysregulation, metastasis and immune evasion. Therapeutic targeting against these epigenetic mechanisms, including inhibitors of DNA and RNA methylation as well as regulators of RNA modifications, can enhance tumor suppressor gene activity. In this review, we examine recent studies elucidating the role of epigenetic regulation in OS pathogenesis and discuss emerging drugs or interventions with potential clinical utility. Understanding of tumor- specific epigenetic alterations, coupled with innovative therapeutic strategies and AI-driven biomarker discovery, could pave the way for personalized therapies based on the molecular profile of each tumor and improve the management of patients with OS. This manuscript investigates the feasibility of Four-In-Wheel Electronic Differential Systems (4 IW-EDSs) within contemporary electric vehicles (EVs), emphasizing their benefits for stability regulation predicated on steering angles. Through an extensive literature review, we conduct a comparative analysis of various in-wheel-motor models in terms of power output, efficiency, and torque characteristics. Furthermore, we explore the distinctions between IW-EDSs and steer-by-wire systems, as well as conventional systems, while evaluating recent research findings to determine their implications for the evolution of electric mobility. Moreover, this paper addresses the necessity for fault-tolerant methodologies to boost reliability in practical applications. The findings yield valuable insights into the challenges and impacts associated with the implementation of differential steering control in four-wheel independent-drive electric vehicles. This study aims to explore the interaction between these systems, optimize torque distribution, and discover the most ideal control strategy that will improve maneuverability, stability, and energy efficiency, thereby opening up new frontiers in the development of next-generation electric vehicles with unparalleled performance and safety features. To address the challenge of fault diagnosis for in-wheel motors in four-wheel independent driving systems under variable driving conditions and harsh environments, this paper proposes a novel method based on two-stream 2DCNNs (two-dimensional convolutional neural networks) with a DCBA (depthwise convolution block attention) module. The main contributions are twofold: (1) A DCBA module is introduced to extract multi-scale features—including prominent, local, and average information—from grayscale images reconstructed from vibration signals across different domains; and (2) a two-stream network architecture is designed to learn complementary feature representations from time-domain and time–frequency-domain signals, which are fused through fully connected layers to improve diagnostic accuracy. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves high recognition accuracy under various working speeds, loads, and road surfaces. Comparative studies with SENet, ECANet, CBAM, and single-stream 2DCNN models confirm its superior performance and robustness. The integration of DCBA with dual-domain feature learning effectively enhances fault feature extraction under complex operating conditions. Full article

Promoting municipal solid waste (MSW) sorting is critical to advancing sustainable and low-carbon urban development. While existing research often focuses separately on external policy tools or internal behavioral drivers, limited attention has been given to their joint effects within an integrated framework. This study addresses this gap by analyzing micro-survey data from 1983 residents across 34 prefecture-level and above cities in China, using a bivariate probit model to examine how policy tools and policy perception—both independently and interactively—shape residents’ active and passive compliance with MSW sorting policies. The findings reveal five key insights. First, the adoption and spatial distribution of policy tools are uneven: environment-type tools dominate, supply-type tools are moderately deployed, and demand-type tools are underutilized. Second, both policy tools and policy perception significantly promote compliance behaviors, with policy cognition exerting the strongest effect. Third, differential effects are observed—policy cognition primarily drives active compliance, whereas policy acceptance more strongly predicts passive compliance. Fourth, synergistic effects emerge when supply-type tools are combined with environment-type or demand-type tools. Finally, policy perception not only directly enhances compliance but also moderates the effectiveness of policy tools, with notable heterogeneity among residents with higher cognitive or emotional alignment. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of compliance mechanisms and offer practical implications for designing perception-sensitive and regionally adaptive MSW governance strategies. Deep-CNN-Based Layout-to-SEM Image Reconstruction with Conformal Uncertainty Calibration for Nanoimprint Lithography in Semiconductor Manufacturing

Nanoimprint lithography (NIL) has emerged as a promising sub-10 nm patterning at low cost; yet, robust process control remains difficult because of time-consuming physics-based simulators and labeled SEM data scarcity. We propose a data-efficient, two-stage deep-learning framework here that directly reconstructs post-imprint SEM images from binary design layouts and delivers calibrated pixel-by-pixel uncertainty simultaneously. First, a shallow U-Net is trained on conformalized quantile regression (CQR) to output 90% prediction intervals with statistically guaranteed coverage. Moreover, per-level errors on a small calibration dataset are designed to drive an outlier-weighted and encoder-frozen transfer fine-tuning phase that refines only the decoder, with its capacity explicitly focused on regions of spatial uncertainty. On independent test layouts, our proposed fine-tuned model significantly reduces the mean absolute error (MAE) from 0.0365 to 0.0255 and raises the coverage from 0.904 to 0.926, while cutting the labeled data and GPU time by 80% and 72%, respectively. The resultant uncertainty maps highlight spatial regions associated with error hotspots and support defect-aware optical proximity correction (OPC) with fewer guard-band iterations. Extending the current perspective beyond OPC, the innovatively model-agnostic and modular design of the pipeline here allows flexible integration into other critical stages of the semiconductor manufacturing workflow, such as imprinting, etching, and inspection. In these stages, such predictions are critical for achieving higher precision, efficiency, and overall process robustness in semiconductor manufacturing, which is the ultimate motivation of this study. Car interior design should evoke emotions, offer comfort, convey safety and at the same time project the brand identity of the car manufacturer. Lighting is used to address these functions. Modules required for automotive interior lighting often feature injection-moulded (IM) light guides, whereas woven fabrics with polymer optical fibres (POFs) offer certain technological advantages and show first-series applications in cars. In the future, car interior illumination will become even more important in the wake of megatrends such as autonomous driving. Since the increase in deployment of these technologies facilitates a need for an economical comparison, this paper aims to deliver a cost-driven approach to fulfil the aforementioned objective. Therefore, the cost structures of the supply chains for an IM-based and a POF-based illumination module are analysed. The employed research methodologies include an activity-based costing approach for which the data is collected via document analysis and guideline-based expert interviews. To account for data uncertainty, Monte Carlo simulations are conducted. POF-based lighting modules have lower initial costs due to continuous fibre production and weaving processes, but are associated with higher unit costs. This is caused by the discontinuous assembly of the rolled woven fabric which allows postponement strategies. The development costs of the mould generate high initial costs for IM light guides, which makes them beneficial only for high quantities of produced light guides. For the selected scenario, the POF-based module’s self-costs are 11.05 EUR/unit whereas the IM module’s self-costs are 14,19 EUR/unit. While the cost structures are relatively independent from the selected scenario, the actual self-costs are highly dependent on boundary conditions such as production volume. Full article

Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) have demonstrated therapeutic efficacy across numerous clinical applications, with evidence suggesting their paracrine effects, particularly through extracellular vesicles (EVs), possibly driving functional outcomes. In this study we perform the comprehensive characterization of microRNA expression profiles in human MSC-derived EVs (MSC-EV) compared to their parental cells, cultured under clinically relevant xeno-free conditions. MSCs were isolated from the bone marrows of healthy donors and characterised according to the International Society for Cellular Therapy criteria, while MSC-EVs were isolated using differential ultracentrifugation and validated according to the International Society for Extracellular Vesicle guidelines. NanoString profiling identified 590 mature microRNAs expressed across both populations, with 42 being significantly differentially expressed between MSC-EVs and parental MSCs. Five microRNAs were distinctly highly expressed in MSCs and five in MSC-EVs, while fifteen of the top twenty most abundant microRNAs showed high expression in both populations. MicroRNA expression patterns were validated in an independent cohort. Functional pathway analysis of differentially expressed microRNAs showed enrichment of key biological processes including cell proliferation, differentiation, and immune regulation. This standardised profiling approach develops our understanding of MSC/MSC-EV microRNA cargo, using a transparent methodological approach that allows for the improved comparability of datasets for the development and advancement of MSC-EV therapeutics.
