Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBDs) are complex, multifactorial disorders with no known cure, necessitating lifelong care and often leading to surgical interventions. This ongoing healthcare requirement, coupled with the increased use of biological drugs and rising disease prevalence, significantly increases the financial burden on the healthcare systems. Thus, a number of novel technological approaches have emerged in order to face some of the pivotal questions still associated with IBD. In navigating the intricate landscape of IBD, biosensors act as indispensable allies, bridging the gap between traditional diagnostic methods and the evolving demands of precision medicine. Continuous progress in biosensor technology holds the key to transformative breakthroughs in IBD management, offering more effective and patient-centric healthcare solutions considering the One Health Approach. Here, we will delve into the landscape of biomarkers utilized in the diagnosis, monitoring, and management of IBD. From well-established serological and fecal markers to emerging genetic and epigenetic markers, we will explore the role of these biomarkers in aiding clinical decision-making and predicting treatment response. Additionally, we will discuss the potential of novel biomarkers currently under investigation to further refine disease stratification and personalized therapeutic approaches in IBD. By elucidating the utility of biosensors across the spectrum of IBD care, we aim to highlight their importance as valuable tools in optimizing patient outcomes and reducing healthcare costs. Hospital in the Home (HITH) programs are emerging as a key pillar of smart city healthcare infrastructure, leveraging technology to extend care beyond traditional hospital walls. The global healthcare sector has been conceptualizing the notion of a care without walls hospital, also called HITH, where virtual care takes precedence to address the multifaceted needs of an increasingly aging population grappling with a substantial burden of chronic disease. HITH programs have the potential to significantly reduce hospital bed occupancy, enabling hospitals to better manage the ever-increasing demand for inpatient care. Although many health providers and hospitals have established their own HITH programs, there is a lack of research that provides healthcare executives and HITH program managers with management models and frameworks for such initiatives. There is also a lack of research that provides strategies for improving HITH management in the health sector. To fill this gap, the current study ran a systematic literature review to explore state-of-the-art with regard to this topic. Out of 2631 articles in the pool of this systematic review, 20 articles were deemed to meet the eligibility criteria for the study. After analyzing these studies, nine management models were extracted, which were then categorized into three categories, namely, governance models, general models, and virtual models. Moreover, this study found 23 strategies and categorized them into five groups, namely, referral support, external support, care model support, technical support, and clinical team support. Finally, implications of findings for practitioners are carefully provided. These findings provide healthcare executives and HITH managers with practical frameworks for selecting appropriate management models and implementing evidence-based strategies to optimize program effectiveness, reduce costs, and improve patient outcomes while addressing the growing demand for home-based care. Integrating BIM curriculum into traditional construction management (CM) programs is essential to meet the increasing industry demand for BIM-ready graduates. However, academia struggles with BIM curriculum integration due to unfamiliar emerging BIM technologies, and the increased workload associated with curriculum transformation. Disciplines including nursing, health science, and medical overcame the same challenges using the ability-desire-knowledge-ability-reinforcement (ADKAR) change management model, while CM programs have not explored this model for BIM curriculum development. Thus, this research introduces the ADKAR change management lens to BIM curriculum development by proposing a practically modified and replicable ADKAR model for CM programs. Focus group interviews with 14 academics from the UK, USA, Korea, and Australia, revealed establishing a sense of urgency by appointing a BIM champion is the most critical step before the BIM curriculum development. Instant advice demystifying uncertain BIM concepts is recognised the most effective motivation among academia. Well-balanced BIM concept integrations is ‘sine qua non’ since excessively saturating BIM aspects across the program can dilute students’ essential domain knowledge. Students’ evaluation over the BIM curriculum were collected through a six-year longitudinal focus group interviews, revealing that progressive BIM learnings scaffolded from foundational concepts to advanced applications throughout their coursework is the most valuable. Macroeconomic Effects of Oil Price Shocks in the Context of Geopolitical Events: Evidence from Selected European Countries

For a long time, the explanation of the various determinants of oil price fluctuations and their impact on economic activity has been based on the supply and demand mechanism. However, with various volatile changes in the international situation in recent years, such as threats to public health and an increase in regional conflicts, special attention has been paid to the geopolitical context as an additional driver of oil price fluctuations. This study examines the relationship between oil price changes and GDP growth and other macroeconomic variables from the perspective of the vulnerability of oil-importing and oil-exporting countries to unexpected oil price shocks, driven by tense geopolitical events, in three European countries (Norway, Germany, and Poland). We apply the Structural Vector Autoregressive (SVAR) model and orthogonalized impulse response functions, based on quarterly data, in regard to two samples: the first spans 1995Q1–2019Q4 (pre-2020 sample), with relatively gradual changes in oil prices, and the second spans 1995Q1–2024Q2 (whole sample), with sudden fluctuations in oil prices due to geopolitical developments. A key finding of this research is that vulnerability to unpredictable oil price shocks related to geopolitical tensions is higher than in regard to expected gradual changes in oil prices, both in oil-importing and oil-exporting countries. Different causality patterns and stronger responses in regard to GDP growth during the period, including in regard to tense geopolitical events in comparison to the pre-2020 sample, lead to the belief that economies are not more resilient to oil price shocks as has been suggested by some studies, which referred to periods that were not driven by geopolitical events. Our research also suggests that countries implementing policies to reduce oil dependency and promote investment in alternative energy sources are better equipped to mitigate the adverse effects of oil price shocks. As medical technology develops and digital demands grow, personal health records (PHRs) are becoming more patient-centered than before based on cloud-based health information exchanges. While enhancing data accessibility and sharing, these systems present privacy and security issues, including data breaches and unauthorized access. We developed a post-quantum, group-oriented encryption scheme using the Crystal-Kyber Key encapsulation mechanism (KEM). Leveraging lattice-based post-quantum cryptography, this scheme ensures quantum resilience and chosen ciphertext attack security for layered cloud PHR environments. It supports four encryption modes: individual, group, subgroup-specific, and authorized subgroup decryption, meeting diverse data access needs. With efficient key management requiring only one private key per user, the developed scheme strengthens the privacy and security of PHRs in a future-proof, flexible, and scalable manner. Full article

Early-career teachers (ECTs) entered the profession during the COVID-19 pandemic, a period that introduced unique stressors to an already-demanding career phase. This systematic review examines empirical studies published between 2020 and February 2025 to explore how the pandemic influenced ECT wellbeing, with particular attention to stressors and protective factors impacting long-term retention and professional sustainability. Guided by PRISMA protocols, databases including Web of Science, ERIC, Google Scholar, and Scopus were searched, screening 470 records and identifying 30 studies that met inclusion criteria: peer-reviewed, empirical, focused on early-career teachers (within the first five years), and situated in or explicitly addressing the pandemic and its ongoing impacts. The results of Braun and Clarke’s thematic analysis (2006) revealed that pandemic-related challenges such as increased workload, professional isolation, disrupted induction processes, and emotional strain have persisted into the post-pandemic era, contributing to sustained risks of burnout and attrition. Regardless, protective factors identified during the pandemic—including high-quality mentoring, structured induction programmes, collegial support, professional autonomy, and effective individual coping strategies—continue to offer essential support, enhancing resilience and professional wellbeing. These findings underscore the necessity of institutionalising targeted supports to address the enduring effects of pandemic-related stressors on ECT wellbeing. By prioritising sustained mental health initiatives and structural supports, education systems can effectively mitigate long-term impacts and improve retention outcomes for early-career teachers in a post-pandemic educational landscape. In recent years, industrial wastewater discharge containing heavy metals has increased significantly and has adversely affected both human health and the aquatic ecosystem. The increasing demand for metals in industry has prompted researchers to focus on developing effective and economical methods for removal of these metals. In this study, the removal of Ni(II) from wastewater using the Graphene oxide@Fe3O4@Pluronic-F68 (GO@Fe3O4@Pluronic-F68) nano composite as an adsorbent was investigated. The nanocomposite was characterised using a series of analytical methods, including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis. The effects of contact time, pH, adsorbent amount, and temperature parameters on adsorption were investigated. Various adsorption isotherm models were applied to interpret the equilibrium data in aqueous solutions; the compatibility of the Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Dubinin-Radushkevich models with experimental data was examined. For a kinetic model consistent with experimental data, pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, Elovich, and intra-particle diffusion models were examined. The maximum adsorption capacity was calculated as 151.5 mg·g−1 in the Langmuir isotherm model. The most suitable isotherm and kinetic models were the Freundlich and pseudo-second-order kinetic models, respectively. These results demonstrate the potential of the GO@Fe3O4@Pluronic-F68 nanocomposite as an adsorbent offering a sustainable solution for Ni(II) removal. Full article

In the face of growing demand for food and climate change, ensuring the stability and height of crop yields is becoming a key challenge for modern agriculture. One of the solutions supporting the sustainable development of crop production is the use of certified seed. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of using certified seed on the level and stability of yields of three cereal species: winter wheat, winter triticale and spring barley, in temperate climate conditions. Data came from surveys conducted on over 8000 farms in six agroecoregions of Poland in 2021–2023. The analysis showed significantly higher yields on farms using certified seed for all species studied. Additionally, greater yield stability (lower values of Shukla variance and Wricke ecovalence) was noted in the case of using certified seeds, especially in region IV. This indicates the positive impact of certified seeds (e.g., genetic purity, health, and vigor) on the efficiency and resilience of agricultural systems. This phenomenon is of particular importance in the context of climate change and may be an important element of risk management strategies in agriculture. Full article

With the arrival of an aging society and the continuous extension of the human lifespan, the quality of life has not improved in a corresponding manner. People’s demand for happiness and health is increasing. As a result, a model emerged that integrates tourism and medical services, which is health tourism. This growing demand has prompted many service providers to see it as a business opportunity and enter the market. Tourism can help travelers release work stress and restore physical and mental balance; meanwhile, health check-ups and disease treatment can help them regain health. Consumers have long favored health and medical tourism because it helps relieve stress and promotes overall well-being. As people age, some consumers experience a gradual decline in physical functions, making it difficult for them to participate in regular travel services provided by traditional travel agencies. Therefore, this study aims to explore the service needs of health and medical tourism customers (tourists/patients) and the interrelationships among these service needs, so that health and medical tourism service providers can develop more customized and diversified services. This study identifies four key drivers of medical tourism services: medical services, medical facilities, tour planning, and hospitality facilities. This study uses the APA (attention and performance analysis) method to assess each dimension and criterion and utilizes the DEMATEL method with the NRM (network relationship map) to identify network relationships. By combining APA and NRM techniques, this study develops the APA-NRM technique to evaluate adoption strategies and identify suitable paths for health tourism services, providing tailored development strategies and recommendations for service providers to enhance the service experience. The demand for functional beverages is increasing as consumers seek options that offer health benefits, and plant-based beverages are gaining popularity for their associated advantages. The objective of this study was to optimize the formulation of a chickpea and hibiscus beverage to maximize flavor sensory acceptance, antioxidant capacity, and anthocyanin content using a mixture design and characterize the optimal formulation. An extreme vertices mixture design was employed, with fixed proportions of chickpea beverage (66.5%) and inulin (2%), while varying the proportions of hibiscus decoction, monk fruit, and cinnamon powder. Additionally, the Kano model was used to classify the beverage’s attributes. The optimized formulation consisted of 31.41% hibiscus decoction, 0.48% monk fruit, and 0.61% cinnamon powder, achieving 329.2 µmol TE/100 mL (antioxidant capacity), 3.567 mg C3GE/100 mL (anthocyanin content), and a flavor rating of 6.2. The Kano model classified good taste, functional properties, monk fruit sweetening, and chickpeas as attractive attributes, with functional properties obtaining the highest satisfaction index (0.88). These results demonstrate that employing a mixture design is an effective tool to enhance health-related aspects and consumer acceptance. Additionally, the incorporation of the Kano model provides a broader perspective on the development of functional beverages by identifying key attributes that influence product acceptance and market success. With the acceleration of the pace of life, increased stress levels, and changes in lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise, the incidence of diseases such as cancer and immunodeficiency has been on the rise, which is closely associated with the impaired antioxidant capacity of the body. Polypeptides and polysaccharides derived from edible fungi demonstrate significant strong antioxidant activity and immunomodulatory effects. Auricularia auricula, the second most cultivated mushroom in China, is not only nutritionally rich but also offers considerable health benefits. In particular, its polysaccharides have been widely recognized for their immunomodulatory activities, while its abundant protein content holds great promise as a raw material for developing immunomodulatory peptides. To meet the demand for high-value utilization of Auricularia auricula resources, this study developed a key technology for the stepwise extraction of polypeptides (AAPP1) and polysaccharides (AAPS3) using a composite enzymatic hydrolysis process. Their antioxidant and immunomodulatory effects were assessed using cyclophosphamide (CTX)-induced immune-suppressed mice. The results showed that both AAPP1 and AAPS3 significantly reversed CTX-induced decreases in thymus and spleen indices (p < 0.05); upregulated serum levels of cytokines (e.g., IL-4, TNF-α) and immunoglobulins (e.g., IgA, IgG); enhanced the activities of hepatic antioxidant enzymes SOD and CAT (p < 0.05); and reduced the content of MDA, a marker of oxidative damage. Intestinal microbiota analysis revealed that these compounds restored CTX-induced reductions in microbial α-diversity, increased the abundance of beneficial bacteria (Paramuribaculum, Prevotella; p < 0.05), decreased the proportion of pro-inflammatory Duncaniella, and reshaped the balance of the Bacteroidota/Firmicutes phyla. This study represents the first instance of synergistic extraction of polypeptides and polysaccharides from Auricularia auricula using a single process. It demonstrates their immune-enhancing effects through multiple mechanisms, including “antioxidation-immune organ repair-intestinal microbiota regulation.” The findings offer a theoretical and technical foundation for the deep processing of Auricularia auricula and the development of functional foods. The proposed mathematical model incorporates regionally distributed subpopulations and applies a system of differential equations solved using the classical fourth-order Runge–Kutta method. The simulations are validated against real-world epidemiological data from national and international sources. The SEIR model demonstrated superior performance, achieving maximum relative errors of 4.81% and 5.60% in the Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, respectively, outperforming the SIS and SIR models. Despite limited mobility and social contact data, the regionally adapted models achieved acceptable accuracy for medium-term forecasting. This validates the practical applicability of extended compartmental models in public health planning, particularly in settings with constrained data availability. The results further support the use of these models for estimating critical epidemiological indicators such as infection peaks and hospital resource demands. The proposed framework offers a scalable and computationally efficient tool for regional epidemic forecasting, with potential applications to future outbreaks in geographically heterogeneous environments. Background: The dual nature of cannabis, as both a promising therapeutic tool and a widely used recreational substance with potential risks, raises important societal controversies, including its unclear impacts regarding mental health. This narrative review provides a comprehensive overview of cannabis, addressing (i) its historical context; (ii) its chemical composition and pharmacokinetics; (iii) its pharmacological effects; (iv) its negative impacts on physiological and mental health; (v) its potential use as a drug for the treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders; (vi) its relationship with the gut microbiome and how this interaction might influence mental functioning; (vii) the pathophysiology, prevalence, comorbidities, and treatment strategies of cannabis use disorder; and (viii) social perspectives on its legalization. Results: Cannabis presents a complex chemical profile and pharmacokinetics that show promise in treating numerous neurological, psychiatric, and psychological conditions. However, its use carries risks, which depend on factors such as compound concentration, dosage, consumption method, frequency of use, and individual vulnerability. Cannabis use disorder seems to be less severe than other substance use disorders, but it still constitutes a significant concern, as its manifestation is not uniform across all users. Conclusions: Cannabis demands a thorough understanding that goes beyond simplistic explanations and prejudices, standing as a plant of substantial clinical significance and highlighting the importance of personalized approaches to its use and increased awareness of how individuals respond to its effects. Background/Objectives: Primary liver cancer (PLC), encompassing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), constitutes a growing global health concern. Metabolic dysfunction-associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) and Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) represent a recurrent epidemiological overlap. Individuals with MASLD and T2DM (MASLD-T2DM) are at a higher risk of PLC. This scoping review highlights the epidemiological burden, the classic and novel pathogenetic frontiers, and the potential strategies optimizing the management of PLC in MASLD-T2DM. Methods: A systematic search of the PubMed, Medline, and SCOPUS electronic databases was conducted to identify evidence investigating the pathogenetic mechanisms linking MASLD and T2DM to hepatic carcinogenesis, highlighting the most relevant targets and the relatively emerging therapeutic strategies. The search algorithm included in sequence the filter words: “MASLD”, “liver steatosis”, “obesity”, “metabolic syndrome”, “body composition”, “insulin resistance”, “inflammation”, “oxidative stress”, “metabolic dysfunction”, “microbiota”, “glucose”, “immunometabolism”, “trained immunity”. Results: In the MASD-T2DM setting, insulin resistance (IR) and IR-induced mechanisms (including chronic inflammation, insulin/IGF-1 axis dysregulation, and autophagy), simultaneously with the alterations of gut microbiota composition and functioning, represent crucial pathogenetic factors in hepatocarcinogenesis. Besides, the glucose-related metabolic reprogramming emerged as a crucial pathogenetic moment contributing to cancer progression and immune evasion. In this scenario, lifestyle changes, simultaneously with antidiabetic drugs targeting IR-related effects and gut-liver axis, in parallel with novel approaches modulating immunometabolic pathways, represent promising strategies. Conclusions: Metabolic dysfunction, classically featuring MASLD-T2DM, constitutes a continuously expanding global issue, as well as a critical driver in PLC progression, demanding integrated and personalized interventions to reduce the future burden of disease. Background/Objectives: Collaboration in mental health care is essential for implementing a model oriented towards the psychosocial rehabilitation of people based on multifaceted interventions involving different actors and sectors of society to respond to demands. Despite the benefits presented by the scientific evidence, there are still many barriers to collaborative care, and professionals continue to struggle in reorienting their conduct. The current situation demands organization and the framing of well-founded action plans to overcome challenges, which in turn requires a detailed understanding of collaborative practices in mental health care and their conceptual boundaries. A concept analysis was undertaken to propose a working definition of collaborative practices in mental health care (CPMHC). Methods: This paper used the Walker and Avant concept analysis method. This includes identifying the defining concept attributes, antecedents, consequences, and empirical referents. A literature search was carried out from November 2024 to February 2025 in three databases (Medline, CINAHL, and LILACS), considering studies published between 2010 and 2024. Results: The final sample of literature investigated consisted of 30 studies. The key attributes were effective communication, building bonds, co-responsibility for care, hierarchical flexibility, articulation between services, providers and community, monitoring and evaluating of care processes, and attention to the plurality of sociocultural contexts. Conclusions: This comprehensive analysis contributes to guiding future research and policy development of collaborative practices in mental health, considering the individual, relational, institutional, and social levels. Further research is possible to deepen the understanding of the production of collaborative practices in mental health in the face of the complexity of social relations and structural inequities.
