Topological photonic crystals have garnered significant attention due to their fascinating topological edge states. These states are robust against sharp bends and defects and exhibit the novel property of unidirectional transmission. In this study, we analyze the topological edge states of gyromagnetic topological photonic crystals in analogy with the quantum Hall effect. Through expanding and shrinking six dielectric cylinders, the optical quantum spin Hall effect is achieved. And helical edge states with pseudo-spin are demonstrated. Owing to the novel topological properties of these edge states, robust waveguides are proposed. Furthermore, integrating these two distinct types of topological states, a novel circulator with topological characteristics is designed. These topologically protected photonic devices will be beneficial for developing integrated circuits. Full article

We propose extended one-way waveguide states of large-area propagation in a photonic crystal waveguide consisting of two honeycomb gyromagnetic photonic crystals with opposite external magnetic fields. When the width of the waveguide is small enough, the edge states along both boundaries of the waveguide couple with each other strongly and thus create the so-called extended one-way waveguide states. Of note, this structure supports both even and odd extended states, which can be excited under different excitation conditions. For the odd mode, electromagnetic waves have opposite phase distributions along the centerline of the waveguide on both sides, while for the even mode, they have in-phase distributions on both sides. In addition, the odd and the even modes both have the large-area propagating property. Moreover, we have carried out a microwave experiment to verify the simulation results. The measured transmission spectrum shows that the structure has strong non-reciprocity, and the measured electric field distributions of the even and odd modes prove that it supports excellent large-area transmission behaviors. These results provide feasible ideas for achieving topological high-throughput transmission. Full article

In this work, the electromagnetic properties of Ni0.22Cu0.31Zn0.47Fe2O4 (NiCuZn) ferrites doped with 0.3 wt% Bi2O3 + xCuO flux (x = 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, and 0.8 wt%) were studied. Doping resulted in a reduction in the sintering temperature to 900 °C. The doped ferrites were synthesized via the solid-state method. XRD patterns revealed that the prepared ferrites had a cubic spinel structure; thus, a moderate addition of flux did not change the crystal structure. The SEM images, as well as the density and grain size distribution of the samples, showed that the NiCuZn ferrites had densified, homogenized, and contained fully grown grains for x = 0.6 wt%. The sample exhibited good soft magnetic properties, with μ′ reaching the maximum value of 245.4 for x = 0.6 wt% and ε′, Ms, and Hc reaching the maximum values of 23.1, 28.06 emu/g, and 45.86 Oe for x = 0.8 wt%, respectively. Furthermore, the ferrites exhibited good gyromagnetic properties, with 4πMs reaching the maximum value of 1744 Gauss for x = 0.8 wt% and ΔH reaching the minimum value of 228 Oe for x = 0.6 wt%. NiCuZn ferrites were successfully sintered at a lower temperature (900 °C) by adding Bi2O3–CuO flux through LTCC technology and exhibited good soft magnetic properties and gyromagnetic properties. We envisage that these ferrites could be used in multilayer devices. Full article

The cytochrome P450 family consists of ubiquitous monooxygenases with the potential to perform a wide variety of catalytic applications. Among the members of this family, CYP116B5hd shows a very prominent resistance to peracid damage, a property that makes it a promising tool for fine chemical synthesis using the peroxide shunt. In this meticulous study, we use hyperfine spectroscopy with a multifrequency approach (X- and Q-band) to characterize in detail the electronic structure of the heme iron of CYP116B5hd in the resting state, which provides structural details about its active site. The hyperfine dipole–dipole interaction between the electron and proton nuclear spins allows for the locating of two different protons from the coordinated water and a beta proton from the cysteine axial ligand of heme iron with respect to the magnetic axes centered on the iron. Additionally, since new anti-cancer therapies target the inhibition of P450s, here we use the CYP116B5hd system—imidazole as a model for studying cytochrome P450 inhibition by an azo compound. The effects of the inhibition of protein by imidazole in the active-site geometry and electron spin distribution are presented. The binding of imidazole to CYP116B5hd results in an imidazole–nitrogen axial coordination and a low-spin heme FeIII. HYSCORE experiments were used to detect the hyperfine interactions. The combined interpretation of the gyromagnetic tensor and the hyperfine and quadrupole tensors of magnetic nuclei coupled to the iron electron spin allowed us to obtain a precise picture of the active-site geometry, including the orientation of the semi-occupied orbitals and magnetic axes, which coincide with the porphyrin N-Fe-N axes. The electronic structure of the iron does not seem to be affected by imidazole binding. Two different possible coordination geometries of the axial imidazole were observed. The angles between gx (coinciding with one of the N-Fe-N axes) and the projection of the imidazole plane on the heme were determined to be −60° and −25° for each of the two possibilities via measurement of the hyperfine structure of the axially coordinated 14N. The active mass of the plates of aspent car battery with higher wear after an efficient desulfatization can be used as sources of a new electrode. This paper proposes the recycling of spent electrodes from a lead acid battery and the incorporation of NiO or Co3O4 contents by the melt-quenching method in order to enrich the electrochemical properties. The analysis of X-ray diffractograms indicates the gradual decrease in the sulfated crystalline phases, respectively, 4PbO·PbSO4 and PbO·PbSO4 phases, until their disappearance for higher dopant concentrations. Infrared (IR) spectra show a decreasing trend in the intensity of the bands corresponding to the sulfate ions and a conversion of [PbO3] pyramidal units into [PbO4] tetrahedral units by doping with high dopant levels, yielding to the apparition of the PbO2 crystalline phase. The observed electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra confirm three signals located on the gyromagnetic factor, g~2, 2.2 and 8 assigned to the nickel ions in higher oxidation states as well as the metallic nickel nanoparticles. This compositional evolution can be explained by considering a process of the drastic reduction in nickel ions from the superior oxidation states to metallic nickel. The linewidth and the intensity of the resonance lines situated at about g~2, 2.17, 4.22 and 7.8 are attributed to the Co+2 ions from the EPR data. The best reversibility of the cyclic voltammograms was highlighted for the samples with x = 10 mol% of NiO and 15 mol% of Co3O4, which are recommended as suitable in applications as new electrodes for the lead acid battery. We theoretically proposed a topological multichannel add-drop filter (ADF) and studied its unique transmission properties. The multichannel ADF was composed of two one-way gyromagnetic photonic crystal (GPC) waveguides, a middle ordinary waveguide, and two square resonators sandwiched between them, which can be regarded as two paralleling four-port nonreciprocal filters. The two square resonators were applied with opposite external magnetic fields (EMFs) to support one-way states propagating clockwise and counterclockwise, respectively. On the basis of the fact that the resonant frequencies can be tuned by the EMFs applied to the square resonators, when the intensities of EMFs were the same, the multichannel ADF behaved as a power splitter with a 50/50 division ratio and high transmittance; otherwise, it functioned as a demultiplexer to separate two different frequencies efficiently. Such a multichannel ADF not only possesses excellent filtering performance but also has strong robustness against various defects due to its topological protection property. Moreover, each output port can be switched dynamically, and each transmission channel can operate independently with little crosstalk. Our results have the potential for developing topological photonic devices in wavelength division multiplexing systems. Full article

Excellent gyromagnetic properties of textured, bulk Ba-hexaferrite samples are required for low-loss, self-biased applications for microwave and millimeter-wave (MMW) devices. However, conventionally processed bulk Ba-hexaferrite ceramics typically demonstrate low remanent magnetization values, 4πMr, of 2.0~3.0 kG, and relatively large ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) linewidths, ΔHFMR, of 0.8~2 kOe. These properties lead to the development of high-performance, practical devices. Herein, crystallographically textured Ba-hexaferrite samples, of the composition Ba0.8La0.2Fe11.8Cu0.2O19, having excellent functional properties, are proposed. These materials exhibit strong anisotropy fields, Ha, of ~14.6 kOe, high remanent magnetization, 4πMr, of 3.96 kGs, and a low ΔHFMR of 401 Oe at zero-bias field at the Q-band. Concomitantly, the broadband millimeter-wave transmittance was utilized to determine the complex permeability, μ*, and permittivity, ε*, of textured hexaferrites. Based on Schlöemann’s theory of complex permeability, μ*, the remanent magnetization, 4πMr, anisotropy field, Ha, and effective linewidth, ΔHeff, were estimated; these values agree well with measured values. In this paper, we show a simple method of producing ferromagnetic materials with a Curie temperature above room temperature. The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra of Cd1−xCrxTe (0.002 < x < 0.08) were measured with a dependence on temperature (82 K < T < 381 K). Obtained EPR lines were fitted to a Lorentz-shaped curve. The temperature dependencies of the parameters of the EPR lines, such as the peak-to-peak linewidth (Hpp), the intensity (A), as well as the resonance field (Hr), were studied. Ferromagnetism was noticed in samples at high temperatures (near room temperature). For a sample with a nominal concentration of chrome of x = 0.05, a very strong intrinsic magnetic field is observed. The value of the effective gyromagnetic factor for this sample is ge = 30 at T = 240 K. An increase of chrome concentration above x = 0.05 reduces the ferromagnetic properties considerably. Analysis of the temperature dependencies of the integral intensity of EPR spectra was carried out using the Curie–Weiss law and the paramagnetic Curie temperature was obtained. Full article

We present a systematic review of the basic features that were adopted for different electron models and show, in a brief overview, that, for electromagnetic spinning solitons in nonlinear electrodynamics minimally coupled to gravity (NED-GR), all of these features follow directly from NED-GR dynamical equations as model-independent generic features. Regular spherically symmetric solutions of NED-GR equations that describe electrically charged objects have obligatory de Sitter center due to the algebraic structure of stress–energy tensors for electromagnetic fields. By the Gürses-Gürsey formalism, which includes the Newman–Janis algorithm, they are transformed to axially symmetric solutions that describe regular spinning objects asymptotically Kerr–Newman for a distant observer, with the gyromagnetic ratio g=2. Their masses are determined by the electromagnetic density, related to the interior de Sitter vacuum and to the breaking of spacetime symmetry from the de Sitter group. De Sitter center transforms to the de Sitter vacuum disk, which has properties of a perfect conductor and ideal diamagnetic. The ring singularity of the Kerr–Newman geometry is replaced with the superconducting current, which serves as the non-dissipative source for exterior fields and source of the intrinsic magnetic momentum for any electrically charged spinning NED-GR object. Electromagnetic spinning soliton with the electron parameters can shed some light on appearance of a minimal length scale in the annihilation reaction e+eγγ(γ). Full article

Camellia japonica (CJ) has oil-rich seeds, but the study of these oils has received little attention and has mainly focused only on their health properties. In the present work the relative composition of the fatty acid (FA) components of the triglycerides in cold-pressed oil from CJ is studied by 1H-NMR. The results obtained were: 75.75%, 6.0%, 0.17% and 18.67%, for oleic, linoleic, linolenic and saturated FA respectively. Levels of C18 unsaturated FA found in CJ oil were similar to those reported for olive oils. We also checked the possibility of using 13C-NMR spectroscopy; however, the results confirmed the drawback of 13C over 1H-NMR for the study of FA components of CJ triglycerides due to its low gyromagnetic ratio and its very low natural abundance.
