Reliable retrieval-augmented generation requires consistency across query interpretation, evidence selection, and final answer generation. This study defines computational symmetry as bidirectional coverage among canonical query constraints, traceable evidence, and answer claims, with residual asymmetry triggering correction or abstention. The proposed framework integrates a source-linked raw text/entity/event knowledge graph, hybrid dense–sparse retrieval, cross-encoder reranking, pre-retrieval semantic alignment, and a post-retrieval verification gate. DeepSeek-V3 serves as the implementation backbone, while “ChatGPT-type” denotes the broader class of instruction-following conversational large language models. Experiments use T2Ranking for retrieval and reranking, ATIS for diagnostic intent–slot evaluation, and controlled dialogue scenarios derived from T2Ranking. The hierarchical representation improves retrieval F1 from 0.586 to 0.660, while the complete pipeline increases average answer correctness from 0.530 to 0.611 compared with direct LLM answering and from 0.559 to 0.611 compared with graph retrieval. On ATIS, the controller achieves 92.61% intent accuracy, below Joint BERT at 95.18%, and is therefore treated as a reusable orchestration module rather than a superior classifier. The results support the proposed verification correction framework within the tested settings, without claiming superiority over untested adaptive RAG systems. Full article

Objective: Skeletal mandibular asymmetry (MA) is a pathological condition characterised by asymmetric mandibular growth, resulting in chin deviation and, in some cases, non-coincident dental midlines. Because it is a skeletal condition, some clinicians choose to treat it with functional appliances. The present study therefore evaluated whether functional appliances with asymmetric activation can promote more symmetrical growth of the mandibular condyles and rami. Methods: Eighty-five patients with MA were retrospectively selected based on cervical skeletal maturation stage 2 or 3, the presence of skeletal and dental Class II malocclusion, and the availability of good-quality orthopantomograms taken before and after treatment. Among the enrolled patients, 40 were treated with functional appliances to protrude and re-centre the mandible (study group), while 45 were treated only with a rapid maxillary expander (positive and treated control group). This control group was chosen because it has no direct effects on the mandible and avoided the ethical concerns associated with postponing time-sensitive treatment to recruit a negative control group. Ramus and condyle asymmetry were evaluated pre- and post-treatment using Habets’ method. The Mann–Whitney U-test was used to compare pre- and post-treatment asymmetry indices between the two groups. Results: Although both groups showed a post-treatment symmetry improvement, no statistically significant between-group differences were observed (p = 0.712, effect size r = 0.14 for ramal symmetry; p = 0.663, effect size r = −0.01 for condylar symmetry). Conclusions: Within the limitations of this study, functional appliances did not demonstrate greater skeletal effects than the positive control treatment. Full article

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly reshaping esthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery by improving measurement accuracy, treatment planning, and prediction of surgical outcomes. This article provides a scientific overview of current AI applications, including automated image analysis, machine-learning-based outcome forecasting, and generative models for preoperative simulation. AI-driven three-dimensional morphometrics allow precise, reproducible quantification of facial and body structures, supporting more objective assessments of symmetry, proportion, and contour. Predictive algorithms trained on large clinical datasets can estimate postoperative results and complication risks with higher consistency than traditional subjective evaluation. Intraoperative AI tools, such as real-time image guidance and robotic assistance, show potential to increase procedural precision and reduce variability. Despite these advances, important limitations persist. Algorithmic bias, restricted data diversity, opaque model architectures, and unresolved ethical concerns regarding data privacy and esthetic standardization challenge widespread clinical adoption. Overall, AI offers a powerful framework for enhancing precision and reproducibility in esthetic surgery, but its safe and responsible integration will require rigorous validation, transparent methodology, and continued human oversight. A balance between support and independence in guardianship systems is of high concern, especially with those who need help in making decisions. The research presents a novel approach to evaluating voluntary models of guardianship, focusing on the preservation of individual autonomy and examining the underlying decision symmetry in assessing diverse guardianship options. The ultimate solution to the inherent uncertainty and lack of objectivity in expert evaluations is to apply the circular q-rung orthopair fuzzy (Cq-ROF) combined compromise for ideal solution (CoCoFISo) approach, an effective multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) model that integrates ranking and sorting views using a Cq-ROF framework within a symmetry-oriented analytical perspective. These are five major assessment factors: how well autonomy is preserved, legal and ethical adherence, psychological health, social integration aid, and risk prevention. It explores ten alternative approaches to guardianship, ranging from complete legal guardianship to community-based self-management solutions, and the use of technology as an element of support. The suggested approach can facilitate more sophisticated modelling of expert opinions, rather than relying on simplistic and straightforward distinctions and diverse evaluations. The case study results indicate that the hybrid and supported forms of decision-making could offer opportunities to preserve a high degree of personal autonomy while ensuring safety and compliance. The research gives a coherent, adaptable, and explainable approach to managing ethical and policy-level judgment concerning voluntary guardianship systems. Full article

Symmetry and asymmetry significantly influence running biomechanics, performance, and injury risk. Given the practical, ethical, and methodological constraints inherent in human-subject studies, computational modeling emerges as a valuable alternative for exploring biomechanical asymmetries in detail. This study systematically evaluated the mechanical effects of lower limb imbalance during running using a simulation-based musculoskeletal framework in OpenSim. A total of 130 simulations were performed, incorporating controlled asymmetries in limb strength, stride length, and ground reaction forces (±5% and ±10%), to quantify alterations in joint moments, ground reaction forces (GRF), and muscular activation patterns. Results demonstrated clear biomechanical deviations under asymmetric conditions. Vertical ground reaction forces (GRF) decreased on the weaker limb and increased on the stronger limb, with peak knee joint moments rising by up to 20% under pronounced asymmetry. Muscle activation in major lower limb muscles, including the gastrocnemius and quadriceps, increased substantially on the stronger side, reflecting compensatory mechanical loading. These findings highlight the negative consequences of uneven limb loading and support the use of computational modeling to guide personalized training, rehabilitation, and injury prevention strategies. We propose Observer-Linked Branching (OLB), a mathematically rigorous extension of quantum theory in which an observer’s cognitive commitment actively modulates collapse dynamics at macroscopic scales. The OLB framework rests on four axioms, employing a norm-preserving nonlinear Schrödinger evolution and Lüders-type projection triggered by crossing a cognitive commitment threshold. Our expanded formalism provides five main contributions: (1) deriving Lie symmetries of the observer–environment interaction Hamiltonian; (2) embedding OLB into the Consistent Histories and path-integral formalisms; (3) multi-agent network simulations demonstrating intentional synchronisation toward shared macroscopic outcomes; (4) detailed statistical power analyses predicting measurable biases (up to ~5%) in practical experiments involving traffic delays, quantum random number generators, and financial market sentiment; and (5) examining the conceptual, ethical, and neuromorphic implications of intent-driven reality selection. Full reproducibility is ensured via the provided code notebooks and raw data tables in the appendices. While the theoretical predictions are precisely formulated, empirical validation is ongoing, and no definitive field results are claimed at this stage. OLB thus offers a rigorous, norm-preserving and falsifiable framework to empirically test whether cognitive engagement modulates macroscopic quantum outcomes in ways consistent with—but extending—standard quantum predictions. Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered mental health chatbots have evolved quickly as scalable means for psychological support, bringing novel solutions through natural language processing (NLP), mobile accessibility, and generative AI. This systematic literature review (SLR), following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, collates evidence from 25 published, peer-reviewed studies between 2020 and 2025 and reviews therapeutic techniques, cultural adaptation, technical design, system assessment, and ethics. Studies were extracted from seven academic databases, screened against specific inclusion criteria, and thematically analyzed. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) was the most common therapeutic model, featured in 15 systems, frequently being used jointly with journaling, mindfulness, and behavioral activation, followed by emotion-based approaches, which were featured in seven systems. Innovative techniques like GPT-based emotional processing, multimodal interaction (e.g., AR/VR), and LSTM-SVM classification models (greater than 94% accuracy) showed increased conversation flexibility but missed long-term clinical validation. Cultural adaptability was varied, and effective localization was seen in systems like XiaoE, okBot, and Luda Lee, while Western-oriented systems had restricted contextual adaptability. Accessibility and inclusivity are still major challenges, especially within low-resource settings, since digital literacy, support for multiple languages, and infrastructure deficits are still challenges. Ethical aspects—data privacy, explainability, and crisis plans—were under-evidenced for most deployments. This review is different from previous ones since it focuses on cultural adaptability, ethics, and hybrid public health incorporation and proposes a comprehensive approach for deploying AI mental health chatbots safely, effectively, and inclusively. Central to this review, symmetry is emphasized as a fundamental idea incorporated into frameworks for cultural adaptation, decision-making processes, and therapeutic structures. In particular, symmetry ensures equal cultural responsiveness, balanced user–chatbot interactions, and ethically aligned AI systems, all of which enhance the efficacy and dependability of mental health services. Recognizing these benefits, the review further underscores the necessity for more rigorous academic research into the development, deployment, and evaluation of mental health chatbots and apps, particularly to address cultural sensitivity, ethical accountability, and long-term clinical outcomes. Participatory research with children presents a range of ethical challenges, particularly concerning power dynamics between adults and children in the research process. Factors such as the research setting, parental consent, the role of gatekeepers, interview dynamics, and the methods used can either facilitate or limit children’s participation. For migrant children and their families, specific issues like the language of communication, the materials developed for the study, socio-economic status, and migration-related vulnerabilities, such as sensitive experiences of (forced) migration, are especially important. This paper explores these ethical considerations through the lens of our research in the WoKidS project, which examines the subjective well-being of children (N = 84) aged 8 to 14, both with and without a migration background. The article is grounded in an ethical reflexivity approach, where multiple researchers involved in the study reflect on their experiences and practices while conducting research with (migrant) children. Background/Objectives: Childhood obesity is a critical public health issue associated with biomechanical and functional impairments that influence gait and physical performance. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of a six-month personalized kinetic program on gait parameters and pelvic kinematics in overweight and obese children. Methods: The prospective observational study included 100 children aged 8 to 15, divided into a study group (SG, n = 50) and a control group (CG, n = 50). The SG participated in a tailored kinetic program focusing on flexibility, strength, and coordination exercises, while the CG maintained their usual activities. The program consisted of 60 min sessions conducted three times per week over a six-month period. Gait parameters and pelvic symmetry indices were assessed using the BTS G-WALK system. Ethical approval was granted by the Ethics Committee of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Craiova, under approval no. 38/1 March 2022. Results: Significant improvements were observed in the SG, with increases in cadence (steps/min), walking speed (m/s), and pelvic symmetry indices across all planes (sagittal, frontal, and transverse) (p < 0.0001). In contrast, no significant changes were observed in pelvic symmetry indices in the CG (p > 0.01). The Spearman correlation matrix and heatmaps highlighted a strong correlation between improved gait parameters and participation in the kinetic program (correlation coefficient over 0.45). Conclusions: The findings demonstrate that a targeted kinetic program can significantly improve gait mechanics and pelvic kinematics in overweight and obese children. These results emphasize the importance of personalized exercise interventions in managing obesity-related gait abnormalities and improving functional mobility. Full article

In today’s digital landscape, the exponential growth of data heightens security risks associated with traditional centralized storage systems. Utilizing blockchain technology, a shift towards decentralized data storage provides a more secure and private alternative. Central to our work is the exploration of symmetry in data management, a concept woven into the fabric of our proposed solution to challenge the inherency in InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) technology. Through the strategic utilization of smart contract-invoked random functions, our blockchain-based solution fragments and securely stores data in order to ensure a symmetrical balance between confidentiality and integrity. Our research endeavors are to contribute a robust, ethically grounded data storage framework fostering advancements in secure data sharing. The implications of this paper are significant in addressing contemporary challenges of data management within the expansive realm of big data. Full article

The Internet of Everything (IoE) represents a paradigm shift in the world of connectivity. While the Internet of Things (IoT) initiated the era of interconnected devices, the IoE takes this concept to new heights by interlinking objects, individuals, data, and processes. Symmetry in IoE innovation and technology is essential for creating a harmonious and efficient ecosystem to ensure that the benefits are accessible to a broad spectrum of society while minimizing potential drawbacks. This comprehensive review paper explores the multifaceted landscape of the IoE, delving into its core concepts, enabling technologies, real-world applications, and the intricate web of challenges it presents. A focal point of this review is the diverse array of real-world applications spanning healthcare, smart cities, industry 4.0, agriculture, and sustainability. Previous works and examples illustrate how the IoE reshapes these domains, leading to greater efficiency, sustainability, and improved decision making. However, the transformative power of the IoE is accompanied by a host of challenges, including security and privacy concerns, interoperability issues, and the ethical implications of ubiquitous connectivity. These challenges are dissected in order to comprehensively understand the obstacles and potential solutions in the IoE landscape. For Mencius, shame is the human way of existing in a virtuous disposition and concretely manifests not only as the self-affirming of the passion of shame in the action of stopping something bad from happening, but also as a way of handling affairs and processing things. This paper explains how shame functions as moral motivation by analyzing the affective mindset of shame and aversion (xiu e zhi xin 羞恶之心) and its relation to honoring decorum (yi 义) in the Mencius. Furthermore, I clarify that shame not only refers to cases of shameful self-concern but also to cases of morally detesting others and that the object of both is honoring decorum (yi 义). This unique psychological affect that we call shame develops from the dissonance or misalignment between one’s own moral conduct and the criteria of socially beneficial interaction; however, for this reason, it is commonly misinterpreted as negative. In order to demonstrate the positivity of shame and lay out the moral groundwork for an ethics of shame, this paper unfolds the complex interrelation between honoring decorum (yi 义) and shame. Lastly, this paper argues that shame is a deeply-rooted natural disposition that grows and expands in connection with self-approved norms during interactions with other people; therefore, it is the unfolding of a coherence between affect and norm and a relational moral emotion that takes us beyond the symmetry and asymmetry of utilitarian and deontological ethics, respectively. Abstract
Brain–computer interfaces are an emerging field of medical technology that enable users to control external digital devices via brain activity. Brain–computer interfaces are an emerging field of medical technology that enable users to control external digital devices via brain activity. Steady-state evoked potential is a type of electroencephalogram signal that is widely used for brain–computer interface applications. Collecting electroencephalogram data is an effort-intensive task that requires technical expertise, specialised equipment, and ethical considerations. This work proposes a class-conditioned Wasserstein generative adversarial network with a gradient penalty loss for electroencephalogram data generation. Electroencephalogram data were recorded via a g.tec HiAmp using 5, 6, 7.5, and 10 Hz flashing video stimuli. The resulting model replicates the key steady-state-evoked potential features after training for 100 epochs with 25 batches of 4 s steady-state-evoked potential data. This creates a model that mimics brain activity, producing a type of symmetry between the brain’s visual reaction to frequency-based stimuli as measured by electroencephalogram and the model output. In this article the storylines of a religious mother are read with Rosi Braidotti’s formulation of joyful and affirmative ethics. This ethics sets these storylines in motion and illuminates the changes that occur concerning devotion, resistance, and resilience in the face of the expectations of religious motherhood. This diffractive reading makes explicit the changing affects functioning in non-normative narratives and the compound and polyvocal ethics of becoming concerning (religious) motherhood, reproduction, and sustenance in these troubling times—times which compel us to live within compassionate ethics. The ethics of joy brings forward affective elements by allowing also the negative affects entangled in pain and trauma to be recognised as resistance. Besides assisting in reading the storylines for possible breaks, turns, and changes, diffractive reading makes often-neglected tacit elements matter. The forces fuelling the movement in the storylines bring forth equally symmetries, disparities, and changes, and the complex but also complementary relation of resilience and resistance as a part of feminist genealogies of affect. Literature reports increased FDG nodal uptake in HIV-positive patients. Our aim is to identify differences in presentation and characteristics of FDG-avid lymph nodes between HIV-positive and HIV-negative locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC) patients in our clinical setting. We evaluated 250 pre-treatment 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging studies from women screened for a phase III randomised controlled trial investigating modulated electro-hyperthermia as a radiosensitiser (Ethics approval: M120477). The number of nodes; size; maximum standardised uptake value (SUVmax); symmetry; and relationship between nodal size and SUVmax uptake, were assessed by region and by HIV status. In total, 1314 nodes with a SUVmax ≥ 2.5 were visualised. Of 128(51%) HIV-positive participants, 82% were on antiretroviral therapy (ART) and 10 had a CD4 count four nodes visualised in the neck, symmetrical inguinal lymph nodes, increased rates of supraclavicular node visualisation; FDG-avid axillary nodes were more common, but not exclusive, in HIV-positive participants. 18F-FDG PET/CT is a reliable staging method for LACC in HIV-positive patients who are not in acute stages of HIV infection, have a CD4 count >200 cells/µL, and/or are on ART and there is a potential risk of underestimating metastatic spread by attributing increased nodal metabolic activity to HIV infection in these patients.
