In recent years, phylogenomic approaches have significantly deepened our understanding of moss diversity. These techniques have uncovered numerous previously overlooked species and provided greater clarity in resolving complex taxonomic relationships. In this context, the genus Rehubryum is particularly outstanding, because of its close morphological similarity to both Ulota and Atlantichella. The challenges posed by its segregation are addressed in this study, which integrates morphological and molecular data to reassess the circumscription of Rehubryum and its phylogenetic placement within the subtribe Lewinskyinae. Our results support the recognition of a new species, R. kiwi, and show that its inclusion within the genus further complicates the morphological delimitation of Rehubryum from Ulota, as both genera are distinguishable by only two consistent gametophytic characteristics: a submarginal leaf band of elongated cells, and the presence of geminate denticulations in the margins of the basal half of the leaf. Moreover, R. kiwi challenges the current morphological circumscription of Rehubryum itself, as it overlaps in key characteristics with its sister genus Atlantichella, rendering their morphological separation untenable. The striking interhemispheric disjunction between Rehubryum and Atlantichella raises new questions about long-distance dispersal and historical biogeography in mosses, despite these complexities at the generic level. Nevertheless, species-level distinctions remain well defined, especially in sporophytic traits and geographic distribution. These findings highlight the pervasive cryptic diversity within Orthotrichaceae, underscoring the need for integrative taxonomic frameworks that synthesize morphology, molecular phylogenetics, and biogeography to resolve evolutionary histories. This study presents a graph knowledge-enhanced iterated greedy algorithm that incorporates dual directional decoding strategies, disjunctive graphs, neighborhood structures, and a rapid evaluation method to demonstrate its superior performance for the hybrid flowshop scheduling problem (HFSP). The proposed algorithm addresses the trade-off between the finite solution space corresponding to solution representation and the search space for the optimal solution, as well as constructs a decision mechanism to determine which search operator should be used in different search stages to minimize the occurrence of futile searching and the low computational efficiency caused by individuals conducting unordered neighborhood searches. The algorithm employs dual decoding with a novel disturbance operation to generate initial solutions and expand the search space. The derivation of the critical path and the design of neighborhood structures based on it provide a clear direction for identifying and prioritizing operations that have a significant impact on the objective. The use of a disjunctive graph provides a clear depiction of the detailed changes in the job sequence both before and after the neighborhood searches, providing a comprehensive view of the operational sequence transformations. By integrating the rapid evaluation technique, it becomes feasible to identify promising regions within a constrained timeframe. The numerical evaluation with well-known benchmarks verifies that the performance of the graph knowledge-enhanced algorithm is superior to that of a prior algorithm, and seeks new best solutions for 183 hard instances. In this study, we explore the paired disjunctive domination number—a recently introduced parameter by Henning et al.—within the broader framework of graph and network sensitivity and vulnerability analysis. Building on this concept, we introduce and investigate the paired disjunctive bondage number (PDBN), which measures the minimum number of edge deletions required to increase the paired disjunctive domination number of a graph or its corresponding network model. We begin by computing this new bondage number for several well-known network classes. The focus then shifts to specific families of trees, where we first determine their paired disjunctive domination numbers in detail. Using these values, we calculate the corresponding bondage numbers for various structurally symmetric, hierarchical, and compound tree structures, including double star, comet, double comet, Ept, and binomial trees, all of which model different types of infrastructural networks. Finally, we present an algorithm for computing PDBN, accompanied by a complexity analysis, and illustrate the practical relevance of the parameter through a case study applying it to a real-life network problem. Our results offer foundational insights into the behavior of this new domination parameter and its bondage variant, contributing to the growing literature on graph vulnerability and suggesting potential applications in the design of resilient and failure-aware networks. The Harry Potter fandom community around the world prefers a universe of wizards and witches that includes all people, but also has concerns about the author’s perspective regarding gender identity. This disjunction paralyzes the cultural reader with moral confusion, which is a danger to their emotional investment in the text. Although scholars have analyzed this phenomenon using fragmented prisms, such as social media activism, cognitive engagement, translation, pedagogy, and fan creativity, there is no unifying model that can be used to understand why reading pleasure endures. This article aims to fill this gap by examining these strands of research in a divergent manner, adopting a convergent mixed-methods study approach. Based on neurocognitive (EEG) values, cross-cultural focus groups, social media analysis, and corpus linguistics, we outline the terrain of reader coping mechanisms. We identify separate fan fractions and examine the corresponding practices. The results are summarized by proposing a model called the MDRL (Moral dissonance repair loop) which is a theoretical model that shows how translation smoothing, pedagogical reframing and fan-based re-moralization interact with one another in creating a system that enables the reader to be collectively able to obtain their relations with the text back to a manageable point and continue being engaged. This model makes a theoretical contribution to new areas in the study of fans, moral psychology, and cognitive literature. Full article

Fire is a key ecological driver in tropical savannas, yet its effects on plant biodiversity remain understudied in Amazonian savannas. This study investigates how fire recurrence influences taxonomic and functional diversity in savanna ecosystems in northeastern Amazonia. We conducted vegetation surveys across five phytophysiognomies in Amapá State, Brazil, and compiled trait data for 226 plant species. Generalized Additive Mixed Models (GAMMs) were used to evaluate the relationships between fire frequency and diversity metrics across five landscape scales. The results showed that taxonomic diversity—particularly Shannon diversity—exhibited a unimodal response to fire recurrence, with peak diversity occurring at intermediate fire frequencies. Abundance increased with fire frequency, indicating potential dominance by fire-tolerant species. Functional diversity responded more subtly: functional richness and dispersion showed weak, non-linear associations with fire, while functional evenness remained stable. These findings suggest that recurrent fire can reduce taxonomic diversity without strongly altering functional structure, possibly due to functional redundancy among species. The use of multiscale models revealed that biodiversity–fire relationships vary with spatial context. In conclusion, this study highlights the moderate resilience of Amazonian savannas to fire recurrence and emphasizes the need to incorporate these ecosystems into fire management plans in climate change scenarios. Edge populations can harbor unique genetic diversity shaped by historical isolation and play a key role in species’ resilience and range expansion under ongoing climate warming. The Aesculapian snake (Zamenis longissimus) reaches the northern limit of its range in Central Europe, where isolated populations may provide key insights into the species’ evolutionary potential and conservation priorities. In Bohemia (the western Czech Republic), only one reproducing population, in the vicinity of Stráž nad Ohří (SO), had previously been confirmed north of the species’ continuous distribution. Here, we report two additional reproducing populations recently discovered through long-term monitoring: one at the Želinský meander (ZM) and another in Central Bohemia (CB). The ZM population is autochthonous, viable, and genetically remarkable, harboring two divergent mitochondrial haplotypes: the widespread Eastern phylogeographical clade haplotype E1 and a novel haplotype, W10, belonging to the Western clade. This represents the first confirmed record of a Western clade haplotype in the Czech Republic, and only the second known locality within the species’ entire range where both clades coexist. In contrast, the CB population—founded by human-mediated translocation from SO—is expanding dynamically and is represented solely by E1, the only haplotype previously recorded in the country. Our study highlights the importance of incorporating genetic data into conservation planning and understanding species’ evolutionary potential. The mitochondrial diversity uncovered at the ZM exemplifies how historical processes, isolation, and lineage mixing shape contemporary genetic structure. Preserving such populations, which retain unique evolutionary diversity, will be critical for maintaining the resilience of Z. longissimus in Central Europe. More broadly, disjunct northern populations may serve as reservoirs of genetic diversity, enhancing adaptive potential and supporting future range expansion under climate change. Recognizing and conserving this diversity is essential not only for local persistence but also for species-level resilience in a rapidly changing environment. Full article

The flexible job shop scheduling problem with job precedence constraints (FJSP-JPC) is highly relevant in industrial production scenarios involving assembly operations. Traditional methods, such as mathematical programming and meta-heuristics, often struggle with scalability and efficiency when solving large instances. We propose a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) approach to minimize makespan in FJSP-JPC. The proposed method employs a heterogeneous disjunctive graph to represent the system state and a multi-head graph attention network for feature extraction. An actor–critic framework, trained using proximal policy optimization (PPO), is adopted to make operation sequencing and machine assignment decisions. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated through comparisons with several classic dispatching rules and a state-of-the-art DRL approach. Additionally, the contributions of key mechanisms, such as information diffusion, node features, and action space, are analyzed through a full factorial design of experiments. Full article

Vietnamese has a productive reduplication strategy where the reduplicant appears to the right of the base and is segmentally identical to the base except that its last rime is iếc (pronounced [ɪək]). In this note, I attempt to account for some observations about iếc, including the fact that it gives rise to ignorance inferences and is incompatible with classifiers. I propose that the semantics of iếc parallel the pragmatics of disjunctions and that the notion of similarity underlying the interpretation of iếc is contextual while that underlying the interpretation of classifiers is grammatical. The proposal makes use of some tools of predicate logic and formal semantics. Full article

The complex life history and stock structure of endangered shortnose sturgeon (Acipenser brevirostrum) may hinder recovery efforts for individually managed river populations in the US. Reliable survival estimates are essential for evaluating population trends and guiding conservation amid ongoing and emergent threats. However, such estimates are scarce in the recent literature and available for only a few wild populations, with their usefulness in practical management limited. In this study, we leverage multi-year acoustic telemetry data from monitoring projects in the Hudson River, New York (2012–2015), and Altamaha River, Georgia (2011–2014), to develop and compare survival estimates for spawning populations at opposite ends of the species’ US geographic range. Bayesian multistate capture–recapture models indicated high and precise apparent monthly adult survival in both the Hudson (0.991; 95% Bayesian credibility interval [CI]: 0.984–0.996) and Altamaha (0.980; 95% CI: 0.969–0.989) rivers, with implied annual survival rates of 0.897 and 0.787, respectively. Overall, this study advances our understanding of clinal variation in key demographic parameters and underscores the need to develop regionally specific goals for recovery. Broadening the estimates through increased telemetry coverage and integration of additional data will strengthen recovery efforts and support the long-term persistence of shortnose sturgeon across their range. Background and Clinical Significance: Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is commonly benign, but may result in life-threatening arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death (SCD). Mitral annular disjunction (MAD) often coexists with mitral valve prolapse (MVP) and has been implicated in the development of ventricular arrhythmias through myocardial stretch and fibrosis. Case Presentation: Here, we present a case that highlights the diagnostic value of multimodal imaging in evaluating ventricular ectopy in the context of MVP and MAD. A 72-year-old male presented to the cardiology clinic with palpitations and fatigue, compounded by an arrhythmia identified by his Apple Watch. Holter monitoring revealed premature ventricular contractions (PVCs), with cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) demonstrating MAD and basal inferolateral scarring. Despite minimal symptoms and normal echocardiographic imaging, CMR findings highlight the utility of advanced cardiovascular imaging in patients with newly detected ventricular arrhythmias. Conclusion: This case highlights the importance of integrating consumer wearables and advanced imaging in evaluating ventricular ectopy and its evolving role in risk stratification for patients with MVP, even in the absence of overt symptoms. This study aims to elucidate the optimal exploitation of polarimetric scattering information in dual-pol SAR data. For an effective comparison of the flood detection performance between dual-pol parameters, we presented a simple fuzzy-based flood detection algorithm. Scattering characteristics of water surface and non-water land can vary depending on the region and flood conditions. Therefore, the flood detection performance of the dual-pol parameters was evaluated across three datasets with different geographic, climatic, and land cover conditions. The results demonstrated that accurate and stable performance in the detection of inundated areas under different surface conditions can be achieved by combining water body information from dual-pol channels in a disjunctive way. It also suggests that synergy in flood detection can be expected when using polarization observation data by considering each polarimetric channel as an independent information source and combining them rather than deriving the most relevant polarization parameter. Furthermore, combining common information from two dual-pol channels in a conjunctive way could provide the most reliable SAR flood detection results with minimum false alarms from the user’s perspective. Based on these experimental results, a two-class flood classification scheme was proposed for improving the applicability of SAR remote sensing in identifying flooded areas. Full article

This study proposes a learning path recommendation method based on fuzzy competence space theory. It is developed within the theoretical framework of knowledge space theory and fuzzy set theory, aiming to address the progressive nature of learners’ skill acquisition. The proposed method ensures that a learner can improve their knowledge state by increasing only one proficiency level of a skill at a time, thereby closely reflecting the incremental characteristics of real-world learning processes. Based on fuzzy skill mappings, this work systematically defines fuzzy competence states, fuzzy competence structures, and consistent fuzzy competence spaces. Then, given a consistent fuzzy competence space and a fuzzy skill mapping, the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of gradual and effective learning paths are proposed and proven under the disjunctive model. Finally, a gradual and effective learning path recommendation algorithm is designed, and its effectiveness is validated through simulation experiments. This method provides a theoretical foundation and algorithmic support for the development of adaptive learning systems and intelligent testing systems. Full article

Studying the cell cycle is essential for understanding the molecular mechanisms that regulate cell division, growth, and differentiation in living organisms. However, mitosis constitutes only a brief phase of the overall cell cycle, making its analysis challenging in asynchronous cell populations due to its transient and dynamic nature. Cell synchronization methods help to enrich populations at specific cell cycle stages, including mitosis, typically by using chemical inhibitors to arrest cells at defined checkpoints. However, many existing protocols rely on combinations of inhibitors that interfere with normal mitotic progression, disrupting dynamics and causing side effects such as chromosome non-disjunction or lagging chromosomes, which limit their applicability. In this study, we present an RO3306 block-and-release strategy to selectively enrich cell populations at defined mitotic stages without compromising cell viability or disrupting their progression to mitotic exit. This approach provides a reliable method for studying mitotic events with high temporal resolution. Furthermore, by preserving mitotic integrity, it offers a valuable framework for investigating the molecular mechanisms of cell division and the processes driving genomic instability in human cells. This study examines the diversity of Chilean silversides using RADseq genomic data from 78 Odontesthes and 60 Basilichthys individuals, covering most of their range. The phylogenetic and structural analyses of approximately 20,000 SNPs reveal some geographic variation but indicate no differentiation between Odontesthes mauleanum and O. brevianalis. The genus Basilichthys, in contrast, presents a disjunct distribution, with populations in coastal rivers of Peru (B. semotilus) that are separated from Chilean populations by the Atacama Desert. Chilean Basilichthys, traditionally classified as B. microlepidotus and B. australis until 2012, also show no genetic differentiation consistent with species boundaries but exhibit latitudinal differences consistent with isolation by distance. The contrasting patterns of genetic differentiation exhibited by species of these genera may be explained by the more frequent exchange with marine species for Odontesthes that do not occur in Basilichthys, in addition to the recent geological history of glaciations affecting the southern range of their distribution. New surveys on the Brazilian tropical coast revealed new occurrences of five species in Styelidae (Stolonia sabulosa, Amphicarpa paucigonasPolyandrocarpa anguinea Polycarpa insulsaStyela plicata) and one in Molgulidae (Molgula davidi). The species here described represent either the expansion of their geographic distribution in the country or new records for the country. Some of these species have disjunct or wide geographical distributions, and the possibility of their introduction as exotic fauna is discussed. We also present the first field pictures of Stolonia sabulosa and Amphicarpa paucigonas and a detailed description and figures for all species. Full article
