Eva Gore-Booth (1870–1926) was a significant contributor to the Celtic Literary Revival at the turn of the twentieth century; however, her literature differed immensely from that of her male counterparts. Gore-Booth’s writings had a prevailing feminist message, while her later works were manifestly concerned with the study of sexuality and the deconstruction of gender. Gore-Booth’s literature remained vastly overlooked and undervalued until recent times. In the twenty-first century, her poetry and plays are experiencing somewhat of a resurgence. Amid Gore-Booth’s modest literary revival, this article examines her writings from a fresh perspective. Tracing Gore-Booth’s social reform work and later devotion to the New Age religion of Theosophy, it is evident that her writings increasingly endorsed celibacy. This article will highlight how Gore-Booth advocated for celibacy as a radical practice with the potential to dismantle the social construction of gender and of presumed heterosexuality. Notably, Gore-Booth only advocated for heterosexual celibacy, placing same-sex relationships as the ideal, especially lesbian partnerships. This research centers on readings of Gore-Booth’s lesser-known writings including a neglected play Fiametta, her theological writings and the journal Urania which clearly express her revolutionary ideas. The production of Chinese Baijiu relies on the synergistic metabolism of multi-species microbial communities in an open environment. Its intricate microbial succession and flavor formation mechanisms have long been considered complex systems that are difficult to fully deconstruct. Traditional culture-dependent techniques inherently fail to comprehensively capture the actual functional roles and dynamic regulation of “viable but non-culturable” (VBNC) microorganisms within this complex system. In recent years, the rapid advancement of multi-omics technologies has offered a novel perspective for elucidating the underlying fermentation mechanisms of Baijiu. This paper systematically reviews the recent progress in the application of metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, metaproteomics, and metabolomics in Baijiu research. Specific focus is placed on the unique contributions of these tools to resolving microbial community structural diversity, mining key functional genes and enzymes, uncovering microbial stress response mechanisms under environmental fluctuations, identifying phages and spoilage microorganisms, and tracing the metabolic pathways of flavor substances. Furthermore, the pivotal role of multi-omics integration strategies in constructing “microbe–metabolite” regulatory networks is highlighted. Finally, current challenges regarding standardization and data integration are discussed, with an outlook on leveraging omics big data to promote digital monitoring and intelligent brewing in the Baijiu industry. Phytocompounds undoubtedly are structurally diverse and play a crucial role in the development of novel therapeutic agents. 2-Hydroxy-4-methoxybenzaldehyde (HMB), from Hemidesmus indicus, is a potent antibacterial agent. Yet its pharmacophore has not been mechanistically defined. Here, we deconstructed HMB through a panel of structural derivatives to delineate the core structural determinants driving activity against foodborne pathogens. Structure–activity analysis revealed that the core benzaldehyde structure, rather than HMB itself, is the minimal active pharmacophore, with specific functional substitutions modulating antibacterial activity and membrane affinity. Integrating an experimental membrane assay with molecular dynamics simulations provided the first atomistic insight into how these derivatives interact with bacterial membrane lipids, demonstrating that substituent-driven modulation of hydrogen bonding dictates antibacterial potency. Specifically, electron-withdrawing groups enhanced membrane penetration and depolarization, particularly in Gram-positive pathogens. Time–kill kinetics and functional assays confirmed bactericidal action via membrane disruption rather than DNA interaction. Crucially, the active derivatives exhibited negligible cytotoxicity toward mammalian Vero cells, confirming their potential as selective and safe natural preservatives. This work provides a mechanistic blueprint for designing benzaldehyde-based antibacterials to combat antimicrobial resistance. Full article

This study aimed to immerse itself in the most important cultural aspects that tourists see as the main part of their food experience in Chongqing, a city with an active culinary life. We used semi-structured and in-depth interviews with 50 tourists who had recent culinary travel experience in Chongqing. The interview data were systematized with the grounded theory coding process. It was found that six essential themes characterizing the cultural climate of the culinary experience in Chongqing can be taken as Sensory Immersion, Atmospheric Energy (Yanhuoqi), Communal Dining, Procedural Knowledge, Historical Symbolism, and Authenticity Seeking. The research adds a multi-dimensional and granular paradigm for perceiving cultural aspects of a food destination. Through the deconstruction of the taste of place, it gives detailed, contextual information about the manner in which the tourists both interpret and experience food culture. The results have profound practical implications for both destination marketers in relation to the manner in which they can develop powerful cultural narratives and to policymakers on the role of maintaining intangible culinary heritage. Numerical galaxy formation simulations are sensitive to numerical methods and sub-grid physics models, making code comparison projects essential for quantifying uncertainties. Here, we evaluate gadget4-osaka within the AGORA project framework by conducting a systematic comparison with its predecessor. We perform an isolated disk galaxy and a cosmological zoom-in run of a Milky Way-mass halo, following the multi-step AGORA calibration procedure. By systematically deconstructing the updated stellar feedback model, we demonstrate that mechanical momentum injection is necessary to suppress unphysical gas fragmentation and regulate star formation, yielding agreement with the Kennicutt–Schmidt relation. Meanwhile, stochastic thermal heating is essential for driving a hot metal-enriched gaseous halo, thereby creating a multiphase circumgalactic medium that is absent in the predecessor code. In the cosmological context, we calibrate the simulation to match the stellar mass growth history targeted by the AGORA collaboration. The validated gadget4-osaka simulation has been contributed to the AGORA CosmoRun suite, providing a new data point for understanding the impact of numerical and physical modeling choices on galaxy evolution. Amidst rapid urbanization and modernization, numerous traditional villages in China face severe challenges, including landscape homogenization and the erosion of their distinctive characteristics. Addressing this issue requires a method capable of systematically identifying, analyzing, and reconstructing both the landscape and its underlying cultural features. This study proposes a digital analytical approach that integrates multimodal artificial intelligence with landscape language theory to address the homogenization of cultural landscapes in traditional Chinese villages. Taking Xinye Village in Zhejiang Province as a case study, the research systematically decodes its landscape spatial narratives and underlying cultural genes. This framework systematically deconstructs village landscapes across four levels: “vocabulary, context, grammar, and semantics”. The village image database is first automatically recognized and statistically analyzed by computer vision technology, which extracts 31 core landscape vocabulary items from three main categories and nine subcategories. Second, Retrieval-augmented Generation technology is employed to synthesize from the constructed domain-specific corpus, a natural context structured around Yuhua Mountain and Daofeng Mountain, as well as a cultural context based on ancestral hall order, connected through folk activities, and idealized by farming and reading passed down through generations. Building on this framework, a multimodal model was used to examine the spatial composition and combinatorial laws of landscape features. Six essential dimensions—spatial layout, visual order, element combination, functional relationships, circulation layout, and scale correlations—revealed the spatial grammar of shuikou landscape. Lastly, the semantic values conveyed by the landscape vocabulary were thoroughly analyzed across three dimensions—form, function, and culture—by integrating a knowledge base. This work creates a landscape language atlas of Xinye Village by combining these studies and using a linguistic model of “character-word-sentence-paragraph”. By methodically deciphering the clan’s cultural code of “farming and reading passed down through generations”, this clearly reconstructs the spatial narrative logic from micro-elements to macro-patterns. This research not only advances the study of landscape language in traditional villages from qualitative description toward a systematic, digital, and interpretable paradigm but also provides an operational theoretical and methodological foundation for the in-depth interpretation, conservation, and transmission of traditional village cultural landscapes. Background/Objectives: Traditional demonstrations are a common way to teach clinical skills, but they often feel unstructured and inconsistent. Peyton’s four-step approach provides a more organized, student-focused method that might help learners pick up skills better. This study compared the standard demonstration method with Peyton’s approach for teaching ENT procedures to interns. Methods: A prospective study was conducted at a single center with two groups: Group A received a conventional single-pass demonstration. Group B was taught using Peyton’s structured four-step approach (silent demonstration, deconstruction, verbal comprehension, and performed verbalization). Both groups were trained on three ENT skills—anterior rhinoscopy, Trotter’s method, and anterior nasal packing—then tested using OSCE checklists. We also asked students for their feedback through a simple questionnaire. Results: For anterior rhinoscopy, both groups performed similarly. But students taught with Peyton’s method did significantly better on Trotter’s method and nasal packing (p = 0.0098 and 0.004). Overall, they preferred Peyton’s approach, remembered the steps better, and wanted to use it for future training (p < 0.005). Conclusions: While traditional demonstrations are straightforward, Peyton’s structured, hands-on four-step method leads to better skill learning and retention for medical students. Full article

In the field of modern power systems, power supply reliability has become a core indicator for measuring distribution network performance. It serves not only as a fundamental criterion for judging the continuous power supply capacity of distribution networks but also as a key benchmark for evaluating their power quality. Considering the current status of reliability assessment for distribution network power supply, this study conducts an in-depth analysis of a series of key indicators, namely outage duration, outage frequency, the number of affected customers, power supply reliability rate, and the proportion of affected customers. Through a detailed deconstruction of these indicators, an evaluation model for distribution network power supply reliability is established. In the process of model construction, this study innovatively combines the hierarchical recursive weighting method with the entropy measurement weight determination method to accurately define the weights of each evaluation dimension. On this basis, a fuzzy membership quantification strategy is introduced to precisely determine the classification level of distribution networks, and Monte Carlo simulation combined with triangular fuzzy number is used to carry out uncertainty modeling on the reliability score, realizing the transformation from deterministic evaluation to probabilistic evaluation. This strategy is developed to transform qualitative issues into quantitative analysis, effectively clarify the fuzzy and complex interrelationships among multiple influencing factors, and thereby realize a comprehensive evaluation of power supply reliability for distribution networks. To verify the effectiveness and practicality of the proposed method, a distribution network in a specific region is selected as the research object. The aforementioned model and method are applied to assess its power supply reliability, and the precise classification of distribution network levels in this region is successfully realized. This combined model significantly improves the accuracy of evaluation while ensuring the scientific rigor and fairness of the evaluation process. It provides an innovative and practical method for the field of distribution network power supply reliability assessment, and offers substantive reference and support for relevant decision-making and practical operations. The Coffee Cuality Method provides a comprehensive assessment of the sensory quality of coffee that includes an overall quality rating, just-about-right (JAR) scaling of select attributes, check-all-that-apply (CATA) selections from a list of sensory and holistic attributes and open comments. We validated the method with 56 expert coffee tasters by comparing Coffee Cuality with their customary method (i.e., SCA’s, Q-grading or company’s own) for the evaluation of the sensory quality of 12 specialty coffees and commercial blends brewed with their preferred method (cupping, drip, pour over or espresso). A subset of 18 experts then participated in focus groups on the method. Quality mapping (principal component and cluster analyses of the quality ratings) showed consistency among the experts’ overall quality ratings regardless of brewing method, with the dark roasts rated systematically lower than the light- and medium-roasted coffees. Penalty analysis relating JAR ratings to quality scores showed that too dark of a roast or a beverage color and too low of an acidity had the largest (negative) impact on quality. The map of sensory and holistic attributes derived from CATA selections by correspondence analysis, and the word clouds of those selections showed which attributes drove quality ratings, positively or negatively. Focus groups with a subset of the experts suggested improvements to the evaluation protocol and scorecard. By deconstructing, documenting and justifying coffee quality ratings, Coffee Cuality offers a valuable alternative to conventional evaluation protocols. Full article

Research on men’s mental health points out gender differences in help-seeking and access to care. Traditional masculine norms (i.e., emotional repression, self-reliance, “being strong”) and gender bias might conceal distress, delay treatment, and help to explain higher burdens of addiction, violence, and suicide alongside lower recorded affective/anxiety diagnoses. An exploratory narrative review was conducted. PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were searched for 2015–2025 studies using MeSH and terms on men’s mental health, masculinities, and stigma. Eleven studies identified attitudinal barriers (i.e., self-stigma, shame, symptom minimization, mistrust, etc.) and structural barriers (i.e., limited tailored services, navigation difficulties, costs, bureaucracy, etc.) that delay identification of psychological distress symptoms, weaken therapeutic alliance, and increase dropout, especially when therapy is perceived as impersonal or ineffective. Intersectional factors (i.e., class, age, ethnicity) further contribute to access and they need to be included in the field of men’s mental health. Gender-sensitive approaches and alternative masculinity role models have the potential to enhance engagement and legitimize emotional experience. To sum up, hegemonic masculinity-related gender norms, acquired through gender-differentiated socialization, are associated with adverse mental health outcomes among men. A lack of gender-sensitive awareness campaigns to reduce stigma around men’s mental health may hinder prevention, delaying early identification and timely intervention. Therefore, men’s mental health care should integrate gender and intersectionality transversally to improve prevention, access, diagnosis, treatment, adherence, and outcomes, supported by professional training and tailored therapeutic tools in clinical routine practice. These findings underscore the need to promote healthier, more egalitarian masculinities and to deconstruct stigmas associated with help-seeking and mental health service. Full article

Urban built environments face unprecedented challenges in resource management and sustainability, necessitating innovative approaches that integrate circular economy principles with construction technologies. This study addresses the critical research gap at the intersection of circular city initiatives and modular integrated construction (MiC) by employing a structured literature review methodology to systematically analyze existing knowledge. Following PRISMA guidelines, the search screened 438 papers (209 on MiC, 229 on Circular City Initiatives), of which 68 papers were included after quality appraisal for thematic synthesis using MAXQDA. The analysis offers a structured basis for operationalizing circular economy principles in the construction sector and provides a roadmap for future inquiry. The research develops a conceptional requirement matrix framework that bridges circular city principles with MiC implementation. Through systematic analysis, the study establishes six key requirements for construction technologies resulting from circular city initiatives and evaluates them against the six key MiC characteristics: prefabrication and assembly; speed and efficiency; quality and safety; standardization and mass production; sustainability; integration with technology. This matrix represents the first systematic approach to operationalizing circular economy principles through modular construction methodologies. The framework reveals that MiC constitutes a transformative paradigm for circular urban development through multiple synergistic pathways: prefabrication enhances reversibility and durability, extending service life and enabling material loop closure; eco-design integration improves safety and quality standards; deconstructability facilitates adaptive reuse; and BIM-based tools enhance material efficiency and recycling capabilities. The requirement matrix demonstrates strong alignment between circular city requirements and MiC characteristics, with adaptive reuse and modularity showing the strongest correspondence. Stakeholder engagement and policy support emerge as critical enablers across all implementation dimensions. While the framework is grounded in a structured literature review, it remains theoretical and serves as a foundation for future empirical validation. Full article

Substantial research has been dedicated to the study of transnational students’ language, education, and identity development in order to cultivate their funds of knowledge and to improve their schooling experiences. However, as this Special Issue points out, a more holistic and transdisciplinary approach is needed. The present paper does just this, zooming in on teacher education programs designed to prepare teachers to work with transnational students using transdisciplinary arts-based approaches, and in particular, Augusto Boal’s Forum Theater. Employing collective autoethnography and building on a larger research study that explores participant reflections on experiences engaging in Forum Theater, we reconsider three scenarios from arts-based workshops conducted with transnational learners and preservice/inservice teachers (aka teacher learners). In doing so, we deconstruct exactly how the exploration and brainstorming of effective responses to transnational youth experiences of discrimination, stereotyping, and racism in the Forum Theater workshops are harnessed to help participants understand the psychological, cognitive, and behavioral factors at play that impact transnational youth language, education, and identity development. Findings show how each scenario could lead to greater understanding of transnational youth experiences, and the development of teacher learners’ critical consciousness in working with these students. Over the past century, literary theory has branched out in several directions. Diverse schools of literary thought, such as Semiotics, New Criticism, Intentionalism, Structuralism, and Deconstruction, have passionately plowed new ground within the academy and just as passionately defended that territory against their neighbor’s incursions. At times, authors and their intentions have been central to literary criticism, while at others, they are intellectually discarded or severely reduced in importance. Much of the friction caused by the shifting focus of literary criticism is driven by impassioned rhetoric and convictions that leave little room for compromise. The emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) has opened the possibility of a dispassionate arbiter, one that, should the literary community have the courage and conviction to embrace and exploit, could offer a new level of harmony between divergent literary theories. This paper explores the entanglement of the coloniality of time, justice, and emancipatory horizons through the lens of restorative justice in public schools. The author utilizes Jacques Derrida’s theory of hospitality in order to demonstrate how restorative justice, as an open spacetime of impossible choices, creates liberatory possibilities. The author utilizes Charles Mills’ “white time” to deconstruct racial capitalism’s notions of time as they manifest in schools and to reflect upon how restorative justice’s orientation towards relational, fluid temporalities offers a means through which the ethico-ontoepistemological assumptions that underlie oppressive systems in schooling can be questioned and transformed. A restorative justice approach grounded in hospitality, this theoretical paper argues, offers a way through the oppressive temporality of White Time. Full article

Digital Mental Health Interventions (DMHIs) offer a scalable solution to the global mental health crisis, yet their real-world impact is often hampered by low user engagement. Gamification has been widely adopted as a strategy to enhance adherence, but its implementation creates a complex and often unacknowledged “Engagement–Efficacy–Ethics Trilemma”. This systematic review synthesises the current literature to deconstruct this trilemma, arguing that an uncritical focus on maximising engagement can fail to improve—or may even undermine—clinical efficacy, while simultaneously introducing significant ethical risks. Our analysis reveals a persistent “Engagement–Efficacy Gap”, where increased usage of mobile health applications (mHealth apps) does not consistently translate to better therapeutic outcomes. Furthermore, we map the ethical landscape, identifying potential harms such as manipulation, psychological distress, and privacy violations that arise from persuasive design. The roles of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in personalising these experiences and Human–Computer Interaction (HCI) in mediating user responses are critically examined as key factors that both amplify and potentially mitigate the tensions of the trilemma. The findings indicate a pressing need for a paradigm shift toward an integrated approach that concurrently evaluates engagement, efficacy, and ethical integrity. We conclude by proposing a framework for responsible innovation, emphasising theory-driven design, co-design with users, and prioritising intrinsic motivation to harness the potential of gamified DMHIs safely and effectively. Following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, a systematic search was conducted across Scopus, Web of Science, MEDLINE, and PsycINFO for studies published between 2015 and 2025.
