Organoid culture represents a sophisticated biological model that surpasses traditional two-dimensional (2D) methods and animal models in physiological relevance and cost-effectiveness. Current organoid systems derive from adult, fetal, and induced pluripotent stem cells, providing innovative platforms for studying organ development, disease pathogenesis, and drug discovery. Recent technological advances now enable respiratory organoids to significantly contribute to respiratory disease research. This review comprehensively synthesizes the development of respiratory organoid models and their applications in studying major respiratory diseases, including pulmonary fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and lung cancer. It further evaluates the transformative potential of these models in advancing respiratory disease research. Respiratory organoids uniquely model disease mechanisms and drug responses in human-specific microenvironments, enabling pathogenesis studies of respiratory diseases. They serve as functional platforms for drug screening and personalized therapy development. Future integration of multi-organoid systems with precision medicine promises to redefine respiratory disease research paradigms. Full article

This study explores the empowerment of local communities through homestay management as an innovative strategy for sustainable rural tourism in Yogyakarta. Using a qualitative research design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and participant observation with homestay owners, community leaders, and local tourism stakeholders. The findings reveal that homestay management not only enhances economic opportunities for rural households but also strengthens cultural preservation and community participation in tourism governance. Moreover, the integration of traditional hospitality practices with innovative management approaches fosters visitor satisfaction while ensuring sustainability. The study contributes to the literature by highlighting how homestay management can serve as a model of community-based tourism development, offering practical implications for policymakers, local governments, and tourism practitioners in promoting inclusive and resilient rural tourism. This study aims to examine the methodological applicability of the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) in the conservation and revitalization of traditional military settlements. Using Zhenjing Village in Jingbian County as a case, the research constructs a systematic framework for contradiction identification and strategy generation. Methods: Through preliminary surveys, data integration, and system modeling, the study identifies major conflicts among authenticity preservation, ecological carrying capacity, and community vitality in Zhenjing Village. Technical contradiction matrices, separation principles, and the Algorithm of Inventive Problem Solving (ARIZ) are employed for structured analysis. Further, system dynamics modeling is used to simulate the effectiveness of strategies and to evaluate the dynamic impacts of various conservation interventions on authenticity maintenance, ecological stress, and community vitality. The research identifies three categories of core technical contradictions and translates the 39 engineering parameters into an indicator system adapted to the cultural heritage conservation context. ARIZ is used to derive the Ideal Final Result (IFR) for Zhenjing Village, which includes self-maintaining authenticity, self-regulating ecology, and self-activating community development, forming a systematic strategy. System dynamics simulations indicate that, compared with “inertial development,” TRIZ-oriented strategies reduce the decline in heritage authenticity by approximately 40%, keep ecological pressure indices below threshold levels, and significantly enhance the sustainability of community vitality. TRIZ enables a shift in the conservation of traditional military settlements from experience-driven approaches toward systematic problem solving. It strengthens conflict-identification capacity and improves the logical rigor of strategy generation, providing a structured and scalable innovative method for heritage conservation in arid and ecologically fragile regions in northern China and similar contexts worldwide. Background: In an increasingly volatile global business environment, supply chain resilience has become a strategic imperative, particularly for firms operating in developing economies. Guided by Dynamic Capabilities Theory (DCT), this study examines how AI-powered tools foster an innovation culture comprising communication, creativity, and learning, and how these dimensions enhance supply chain resilience measured through flexibility, efficiency, and velocity. Methods: A quantitative research design was employed using survey data collected from 270 supply chain and operations managers in Jordanian manufacturing firms. Twelve direct hypotheses were tested using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling. Results: The findings indicate that AI-powered tools significantly influence communication, creativity, and learning. Communication and creativity positively affect all three dimensions of supply chain resilience. Learning significantly improves efficiency but shows no significant effect on flexibility or velocity, indicating that learning is mainly utilized for process improvement rather than rapid adaptation. Conclusions: The study demonstrates that AI adoption alone is insufficient to build resilient supply chains unless supported by innovation-oriented cultural capabilities. The findings extend DCT by clarifying the differentiated role of learning in resilience building and provide actionable guidance for managers seeking to align AI investments with cultural development in resource-constrained manufacturing contexts and long-term competitive advantage. Growing pressure on water resources and mineral fertilizer use calls for innovative and resource-efficient agri-food systems. Aquaponics, integrating aquaculture and hydroponics, represents a promising approach for sustainable greenhouse production. This study, aiming to explore alternative water and nutrient sources for greenhouse tomato production without compromising plant adaptability or yield, evaluated the co-cultivation of grape tomato and rainbow trout in a vertical decoupled aquaponic system under controlled greenhouse conditions. Two aquaponic nutrient strategies were tested: unmodified aquaponic water (AP) and complemented aquaponic water (CAP), with conventional hydroponics (HP) as a control, in a Deep Water Culture hydroponic system. Plant performance was assessed through marketable yield and physiological parameters, while system performance was evaluated using combined-biomass Energy Use Efficiency (EUE), Freshwater Use Efficiency (fWUE) and Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE), accounting for both plant and fish production. CAP significantly improved tomato yield (9.86 kg m−2) compared to AP (2.40 kg m−2), although it remained lower than HP (12.14 kg m−2). Fresh WUE was comparable between CAP and HP (9.22 vs. 9.24 g L−1), demonstrating effective water reuse. In contrast, EUE and NUE were lower in CAP, reflecting the additional energy demand of the recirculating aquaculture system and nutrient limitations of fish wastewater. These results highlight aquaponics as a water-efficient production system while emphasizing that optimized nutrient management and energy strategies are critical for improving its overall sustainability and performance. Remote Indigenous communities experience persistent inequities in access to fresh and nutritious foods due to the fragility of perishable food supply chains (PFSCs). Disruptions across procurement, transportation, storage, retail, and limited local production restrict access to perishable foods, contributing to food insecurity and diet-related health risks. This scoping literature review synthesizes evidence from 84 peer-reviewed, grey, and unpublished sources across fourteen countries to map PFSC management (PFSCM) challenges affecting food access in remote Indigenous communities worldwide and to synthesize reported practices implemented to address these challenges. PFSCM challenges were identified across all supply chain levels, and five categories of reported practices emerged: PFSC redesign strategies, forecasting and decision-support models, technological innovations, collaboration and coordination mechanisms, and targeted investments. These findings informed the development of a multi-scalar conceptual framework comprising seven interconnected PFSCM clusters that organize how reported practices are associated with multiple food access dimensions, including quantity, affordability, quality, safety, variety, and cultural acceptability. This review contributes an integrative, system-oriented synthesis of PFSCM research and provides a conceptual basis to support future scholarly inquiry, comparative inquiry, and policy-relevant discussion of food access and health equity in remote Indigenous communities. Digital technology is profoundly transforming the experiential landscape of tourism. However, its application does not necessarily produce cultural experiences, creating a critical bottleneck that constrains the sustainable development of the cultural tourism industry and broader societal culture. To address this gap, this study introduces psychological ownership theory as an overarching explanatory framework. It constructs and validates an integrated model that examines how digital technology characteristics (interactivity and innovativeness) influence cultural experience through three parallel mediating pathways: cognitive evaluation (perceived usefulness and ease of use), scenario construction, and flow experience. Based on 540 visitor questionnaires, structural equation modeling validated the theoretical model. Findings reveal that the interactivity and innovation of digital technology jointly stimulate visitors’ psychological ownership through three parallel pathways. Specifically, technological innovativeness exhibited the strongest effect on perceived ease of use (β = 0.387, p < 0.001), while the indirect effect via the flow experience path was also significant (effect size = 0.036). This process stimulates visitors’ psychological ownership, ultimately leading to cultural experiences. The study systematically reveals the pathways through which digital technology empowers cultural experiences across three dimensions: as a rational tool, an emotional narrative medium, and an intrinsic psychological catalyst. It highlights that strategically allocating technological resources to cultivate visitors’ psychological ownership is crucial for driving high-quality industrial development. Furthermore, the research offers significant implications for cultural sustainability, suggesting that such internally motivated identification provides a more effective foundation for the living transmission of culture and socio-cultural sustainability than external regulations or imposed norms. Under the dual pressures of global climate change and accelerating urbanization, landscape design has been tasked with the critical mission of enhancing urban environmental resilience and ecological livability. However, conventional design practices often struggle to efficiently integrate complex sustainability norms with aesthetic creativity, leading to a disconnect between form and function. To address this issue, this study proposes and validates an AI-enabled sustainability decision-support framework. The framework is based on a “Generative-Critical” multi-agent workflow that enables “Self-Correcting” iterative optimization of design schemes through a built-in expert knowledge base and a quantitative scorecard. The framework’s effectiveness was validated through a cultural park case study and a blind evaluation by 10 experts. It guided a design from an initial concept with only aesthetic forms and lacking effective stormwater management, to an ecologically integrated scheme that strategically incorporated bioretention ponds at key nodes and converted hard plazas into permeable pavements. This transformation significantly elevated the scheme’s sustainability score from 59.3 to 88.0 (p < 0.001), while the framework itself achieved a high system usability scale (SUS) score of 85.5. These results confirm that the proposed “Generative-Critical” mechanism can effectively guide AIGC to adhere to ecological-technical norms and constraints while pursuing aesthetic innovation, thereby achieving a scientific integration of aesthetic form and ecological function at the early conceptual design stage. This study offers a scalable methodology for AI-assisted sustainable design and provides a novel intelligent tool for creating resilient urban landscapes that possess both environmental performance and aesthetic value. The post-implantation phase of mammalian development is crucial yet challenging to study due to ethical and technical constraints, particularly in humans. Recent revolutionary advances in extended in vitro culture systems for mammalian embryos now offer unprecedented windows into this developmental “black box”. This review synthesizes how these platforms, alongside stem cell-derived embryo models, are transforming our ability to model early human development in a dish. We detail the technological evolution from two-dimensional (2D) to three-dimensional (3D) cultures that support mouse, non-human primate, and human embryos through key stages of implantation and gastrulation, recapitulating events like lineage specification and axial patterning. Furthermore, we explore how these models serve as powerful tools for investigating the etiology of early pregnancy failure, screening for developmental toxicity of pharmaceuticals, and deciphering the molecular pathogenesis of birth defects. By bridging fundamental embryology with clinical and pharmacological applications, these innovative models herald a new era in biomedical research, holding significant promise for advancing reproductive medicine and regenerative strategies. The Immersive Decentralized Digital space (IDDs), derived from blockchain technology and Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs), enables real-time multisensory interactions that support social connection under metaverse concepts. Although recognized as a technology with significant potential for educational innovation, IDDs remain underutilized in health professions education. Health profession students are often unaware of how IDDs’ features can be applied to their learning through in- or after-classroom activities. This study employs a quantitative research design to evaluate students’ perceptions of next-generation digital learning without any prior exposure to IDDs. An electronic survey was developed to examine four dimensions of learning facilitation: “Remote Learning” for capturing past experiences with digital competence during the COVID-19 era; “Digital Evolution,” reflecting preferences in utilizing digital spaces; “Interactive Communication” and “Knowledge Application” for applicability of IDDs in the health professions education. Statistical analyses revealed no significant differences in perceptions based on gender or major on all factors. Nevertheless, significant differences emerged based on nationality in “Digital Evolution”, “Interactive Communication”, and “Knowledge Application”, highlighting the influence of cultural and educational backgrounds on receptiveness to virtual learning environments. By recognizing the discrepancies and addressing barriers to digital inclusion, IDDs hold strong potential to enhance health professional learning experiences and educational outcomes. Full article

Gastronomic tourism has emerged as a significant driver of destination competitiveness, cultural preservation, and sustainable development. This comprehensive review synthesizes the scientific literature published between 2010 and 2025, examining the evolution of gastronomic tourism research, global trends, sustainability dimensions, and emerging challenges. Through systematic analysis of 150 peer-reviewed articles from major academic databases, this paper identifies key themes including cultural heritage preservation, sustainability practices, digital transformation, and educational innovations. The findings reveal a growing recognition of gastronomy as intangible cultural heritage, increased focus on farm-to-fork practices, and the transformative role of social media in destination branding. Despite the rapid growth of gastronomic tourism research, important gaps remain. The literature lacks standardized sustainability indicators, limiting comparability across studies, while cross-cultural comparative research and interdisciplinary integration remain insufficiently developed. Addressing these gaps is essential for advancing theoretical coherence and supporting evidence-based practice in gastronomic tourism. Full article

As sustainability becomes a strategic priority, the Information Technology (IT) sector faces pressure on both reducing its environmental impact and leading in innovation. This study examines how Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) practices influence employees’ Green IT Attitudes (GITA) and beliefs within the IT industry. Guided by the Belief–Action–Outcome (BAO) framework, it explores how HR strategies can foster eco-conscious mindsets that support sustainable behaviour. A quantitative cross-sectional design was used, collecting data through a validated questionnaire. The study was conducted in Australia, focusing on IT professionals employed. Responses from 112 IT professionals, determined through G*Power sample estimation, were analysed using SPSS 28.0.1 with regression techniques to assess the relationship between GHRM practices and environmental attitudes and beliefs. Results indicate that GHRM practices have a modest but significant positive effect on employees’ green IT attitudes and beliefs, supporting the view that structured HR initiatives can shape sustainability-driven mindsets. The findings emphasize the strategic role of HR in embedding sustainability within organizational culture, particularly in technology-driven environments. The study offers practical guidance for IT organizations aiming to integrate sustainability into internal systems by leveraging HRM. Future research should examine moderating variables and long-term behavioural effects, enhancing our understanding of sustainability-focused HRM in the digital era. Full article

A total of 6179 records were initially identified across ScienceDirect and MDPI (last search: July 2025), of which 26 empirical studies met the inclusion criteria (peer-reviewed, empirical, published 2021–2025). Methodological rigor was strengthened through the application of the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT, 2018) and confidence in qualitative evidence was assessed using the GRADE-CERQual approach, enhancing transparency and reliability. Data extraction and synthesis followed a theoretical-methodological coding framework, allowing for the comparison of participatory strategies, typologies of green spaces, resilience dimensions, and applied instruments. The results show that multi-actor co-management, co-design, and community self-organization are the most frequent participatory strategies, while urban green infrastructure, pocket parks, and urban gardens constitute the predominant spatial contexts. Socio-ecological and social-participatory resilience emerged as dominant theoretical perspectives, with qualitative and mixed-methods designs prevailing across studies. Evidence synthesis through GRADE-CERQual identified seven key pathways—multi-actor co-management, Nature-based Solutions, community-based actions, social equity, cultural identity, institutional innovation, and planned densification—each contributing differently to resilience dimensions. Overall, the findings highlight that transformative resilience depends on deep, inclusive participatory processes, multi-level governance, and the integration of social, ecological, and cultural dimensions. Despite the heterogeneity of designs and unequal data adequacy, this review confirms that transformative urban resilience is a co-produced process grounded in community action, ecological sustainability, and collaborative governance. Strengthening underexplored areas—technological innovation, cultural resilience, and standardized methodological instruments—is essential for advancing comparative research and practice. Full article

Spontaneous living spaces are public activity venues within cities that emerge through residents’ autonomous creation and informal planning. Although these spaces may appear disorganized, they serve vital functions: fostering social interaction, enhancing community vitality, improving spatial adaptability, and increasing life satisfaction. However, research on the formation mechanisms, structural logic, resident satisfaction, and the impact of spontaneous living spaces on community vitality is limited, and there is a lack of robust research methodologies. This study aims to explore the formation mechanisms of spontaneous living spaces within historic cultural districts and their influence on community vitality. Using Wuhan’s Tanhualin National Historic and Cultural District as a case study, this research innovatively combines the Mask R-CNN deep learning model with a Random Forest regression model. The Mask R-CNN model was employed to accurately identify and perform pixel-level segmentation of 1249 spontaneous living spaces. Combined with questionnaire surveys and the Random Forest model, this study reveals non-linear relationships between key factors such as community vitality, resident satisfaction with various types of spontaneous living spaces, and crowd density. The findings show that spontaneous living spaces effectively address residents’ unmet needs for emotional connection and dynamic lifestyles—needs often overlooked by official residential planning. This research provides a reliable technical framework and quantitative decision support for regulating the formation of spontaneous living spaces, thereby enhancing residents’ quality of life and urban vitality while preserving historical character. Interventions on Heritage Buildings (HBs) involve significant challenges due to their tangible (embodied in the material, architectural, physical and technical integrity of the cultural asset), and intangible values (linked to socio-historical–cultural and collective identity, memory, customs and symbols meanings), which must be preserved while also adapting to current sustainability and circular economy goals. However, current conservation and management practices often lack systematic tools to trace, assess, and organise material and component information, hindering the implementation of circular strategies. In line with the European Union’s objectives for climate neutrality and resource efficiency and sufficiency, Material and Product Passports (MPPs) have emerged as digital tools that enhance data traceability, interoperability and transparency throughout a building’s lifecycle. This paper examines the potential of MPPs to support circular management of HBs by analysing the structure of MPPs and outlining the information flows generated by rehabilitation, maintenance and adaptive reuse strategies. A mixed methods approach, combining literature review and data structure analysis, is adopted to identify how the different categories of data produced during maintenance, rehabilitation and adaptive reuse processes can be integrated into MPP modules. The research highlights the conceptual opportunities of MPPs to document and interlink historical, cultural, and technical data, thereby improving decision-making and transparency across intervention stages. The analysis suggests that adapting MPPs to the specificities of historic contexts, such as authenticity preservation, reversibility, and contextual sensitivity, can foster innovative, sustainable, and circular practices in the conservation and management of HBs.
