Background: Disruptions in freight transportation—such as service delays, infrastructure failures, and labor strikes—pose significant challenges to the reliability and efficiency of intermodal networks. To address these challenges, this study introduces Adaptive Intermodal Transportation (AIT), a resilient and flexible planning framework that enhances Synchromodal Freight Transport (SFT) by integrating real-time disruption management. Methods: Building on recent advances, we propose two novel strategies: (1) Reassign with Delay Buffer, which enables dynamic rerouting of shipments within a user-defined delay tolerance, and (2) (De)Consolidation, which allows splitting or merging of shipments across services depending on available capacity. These strategies are incorporated into a re-planning module that complements a baseline optimization model and a continuous disruption-monitoring system. Numerical experiments conducted on a Great Lakes-based case study evaluate the performance of the proposed strategies against a benchmark approach. Results: Results show that under moderate and high-disruption conditions, the proposed strategies reduce delay and disruption-incurred costs while increasing the percentage of matched shipments. The Reassign with Delay Buffer strategy offers controlled flexibility, while (De)Consolidation improves resource utilization in constrained environments. Conclusions: Overall, the AIT framework demonstrates strong potential for improving operational resilience in intermodal freight systems by enabling adaptive, disruption-aware planning decisions. Accurate weld seam recognition is essential in automated welding systems, as it directly affects path planning and welding quality. With the rapid advancement of industrial vision, weld seam instance segmentation has emerged as a prominent research focus in both academia and industry. However, existing approaches still face significant challenges in boundary perception and structural representation. Due to the inherently elongated shapes, complex geometries, and blurred edges of weld seams, current segmentation models often struggle to maintain high accuracy in practical applications. To address this issue, a novel structure-aware and boundary-enhanced YOLO (SABE-YOLO) is proposed for weld seam instance segmentation. First, a Structure-Aware Fusion Module (SAFM) is designed to enhance structural feature representation through strip pooling attention and element-wise multiplicative fusion, targeting the difficulty in extracting elongated and complex features. Second, a C2f-based Boundary-Enhanced Aggregation Module (C2f-BEAM) is constructed to improve edge feature sensitivity by integrating multi-scale boundary detail extraction, feature aggregation, and attention mechanisms. Finally, the inner minimum point distance-based intersection over union (Inner-MPDIoU) is introduced to improve localization accuracy for weld seam regions. Experimental results on the self-built weld seam image dataset show that SABE-YOLO outperforms YOLOv8n-Seg by 3 percentage points in the AP(50–95) metric, reaching 46.3%. Meanwhile, it maintains a low computational cost (18.3 GFLOPs) and a small number of parameters (6.6M), while achieving an inference speed of 127 FPS, demonstrating a favorable trade-off between segmentation accuracy and computational efficiency. The proposed method provides an effective solution for high-precision visual perception of complex weld seam structures and demonstrates strong potential for industrial application. Full article

The successful deployment of sustainable building construction (SBC) is connected to sound knowledge sharing. Concerning SBC, knowledge sharing has been identified to directly and indirectly increase innovation, environmental performance, cost saving, regulatory compliance awareness and so on. The necessity of enhancing SBC practice globally has been emphasised by earlier research. Consequently, this study aims to investigate knowledge-sharing elements to enhance SBC in South Africa (SA). Utilising a questionnaire survey, this study elicited data from 281 professionals in the built environment. Data analysis was performed with “descriptive statistics”, the “Kruskal–Wallis H-test”, and “principal component analysis” to determine the principal knowledge-sharing features (KSFs). This study found that “creating public awareness of sustainable practices”, the “content of SBC training, raising awareness of green building products”, “SBC integration in professional certifications”, an “information hub or repository for sustainable construction”, and “mentoring younger professionals in sustainable practices” are the most critical KSFs for SBC deployment. These formed a central cluster, the Green Education Initiative and Eco-Awareness Alliance. The results achieved a reliability test value of 0.956. It was concluded that to embrace the full adoption of SBC, corporate involvement is critical, and all stakeholders must embrace the sustainability paradigm. It is recommended that the principal knowledge-sharing features revealed in this study should be carefully considered to help construction stakeholders in fostering knowledge sharing for a sustainable built environment. This study investigates personal exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) during walking commutes in Gliwice, Poland—a city characterized by elevated levels of air pollution. Data from a low-cost air quality sensor were compared with a municipal monitoring station and the Silesian University of Technology laboratory. PM2.5 concentrations recorded by the low-cost sensor (7.3 µg/m3) were lower than those reported by the stationary monitoring sites. The findings suggest that low-cost sensors may offer valuable insights into short-term peaks in PM2.5 exposure to serve as a practical tool for increasing public awareness of personal exposure risks to protect respiratory health. NRGS-Net: A Lightweight Uformer with Gated Positional and Local Context Attention for Nighttime Road Glare Suppression

Existing nighttime visibility enhancement methods primarily focus on improving overall brightness under low-light conditions. However, nighttime road images are also affected by glare, glow, and flare from complex light sources such as streetlights and headlights, making it challenging to suppress locally overexposed regions and recover fine details. To address these challenges, we propose a Nighttime Road Glare Suppression Network (NRGS-Net) for glare removal and detail restoration. Specifically, to handle diverse glare disturbances caused by the uncertainty in light source positions and shapes, we designed a gated positional attention (GPA) module that integrates positional encoding with local contextual information to guide the network in accurately locating and suppressing glare regions, thereby enhancing the visibility of affected areas. Furthermore, we introduced an improved Uformer backbone named LCAtransformer, in which the downsampling layers adopt efficient depthwise separable convolutions to reduce computational cost while preserving critical spatial information. The upsampling layers incorporate a residual PixelShuffle module to achieve effective restoration in glare-affected regions. Additionally, channel attention is introduced within the Local Context-Aware Feed-Forward Network (LCA-FFN) to enable adaptive adjustment of feature weights, effectively suppressing irrelevant and interfering features. To advance the research in nighttime glare suppression, we constructed and publicly released the Night Road Glare Dataset (NRGD) captured in real nighttime road scenarios, enriching the evaluation system for this task. Experiments conducted on the Flare7K++ and NRGD, using five evaluation metrics and comparing six state-of-the-art methods, demonstrate that our method achieves superior performance in both subjective and objective metrics compared to existing advanced methods. Autonomous Last-Mile Logistics in Emerging Markets: A Study on Consumer Acceptance

Background: Rapid urbanization has intensified the challenges of freight transport, particularly in last-mile (LM) delivery, leading to rising costs and environmental externalities. Autonomous vehicles (AVs) have emerged as a promising innovation to address these issues. While much of the existing literature emphasizes business and operational perspectives, this study focuses on the acceptance of AVs from the standpoint of e-consumers—individuals who make purchases via digital platforms—in an emerging market context. Methods: Grounded in an extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2), which is specifically suited to consumer-focused technology adoption research, this study incorporates five constructs tailored to AV adoption. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was applied to survey data collected from 304 e-consumers in Northeast Brazil. Results: The findings reveal that performance expectancy, hedonic motivation, and environmental awareness exert significant positive effects on acceptance and intention to use AVs for LM delivery. Social influence shows a weaker, yet still positive, impact. Importantly, price sensitivity exhibits a minimal effect, suggesting that while consumers are generally cost-conscious, perceived value may outweigh price concerns in early adoption stages. Conclusions: These results offer valuable insights for policymakers and logistics providers aiming to implement consumer-oriented, cost-effective AV solutions in LM delivery, particularly in emerging economies. The findings emphasize the need for strategies that highlight the practical, emotional, and environmental benefits of AVs to foster market acceptance. Full article

Research on Lightweight Tracking of Small-Sized UAVs Based on the Improved YOLOv8N-Drone Architecture

Traditional unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) detection and tracking methods have long faced the twin challenges of high cost and poor efficiency. In real-world battlefield environments with complex backgrounds, occlusions, and varying speeds, existing techniques struggle to track small UAVs accurately and stably. To tackle these issues, this paper presents an enhanced YOLOv8N-Drone-based algorithm for improved target tracking of small UAVs. Firstly, a novel module named C2f-DSFEM (Depthwise-Separable and Sobel Feature Enhancement Module) is designed, integrating Sobel convolution with depthwise separable convolution across layers. Edge detail extraction and multi-scale feature representation are synchronized through a bidirectional feature enhancement mechanism, and the discriminability of target features in complex backgrounds is thus significantly enhanced. For the feature confusion problem, the improved lightweight Context Anchored Attention (CAA) mechanism is integrated into the Neck network, which effectively improves the system’s adaptability to complex scenes. By employing a position-aware weight allocation strategy, this approach enables adaptive suppression of background interference and precise focus on the target region, thereby improving localization accuracy. At the level of loss function optimization, the traditional classification loss is replaced by the focal loss (Focal Loss). This mechanism effectively suppresses the contribution of easy-to-classify samples through a dynamic weight adjustment strategy, while significantly increasing the priority of difficult samples in the training process. The class imbalance that exists between the positive and negative samples is then significantly mitigated. Experimental results show the enhanced YOLOv8 boosts mean average precision (Map@0.5) by 12.3%, hitting 99.2%. In terms of tracking performance, the proposed YOLOv8 N-Drone algorithm achieves a 19.2% improvement in Multiple Object Tracking Accuracy (MOTA) under complex multi-scenario conditions. Additionally, the IDF1 score increases by 6.8%, and the number of ID switches is reduced by 85.2%, indicating significant improvements in both accuracy and stability of UAV tracking. Compared to other mainstream algorithms, the proposed improved method demonstrates significant advantages in tracking performance, offering a more effective and reliable solution for small-target tracking tasks in UAV applications. Recent advancements in generative artificial intelligence have significantly progressed the field of text-to-music generation, enabling users to create music from natural language descriptions. Despite the success of various models, such as MusicLM, MusicGen, and AudioLDM, the current approaches struggle to capture fine-grained genre-specific characteristics, precisely control musical attributes, and handle underrepresented cultural data. This paper introduces a novel, lightweight fine-tuning method for the AudioLDM framework using low-rank adaptation (LoRA). By updating only selected attention and projection layers, the proposed method enables efficient adaptation to musical genres with limited data and computational cost. The proposed method enhances controllability over key musical parameters such as rhythm, emotion, and timbre. At the same time, it maintains the overall quality of music generation. This paper represents the first application of LoRA in AudioLDM, offering a scalable solution for fine-grained, genre-aware music generation and customization. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method improves the semantic alignment and statistical similarity compared with the baseline. The contrastive language–audio pretraining score increased by 0.0498, indicating enhanced text-music consistency. The kernel audio distance score decreased by 0.8349, reflecting improved similarity to real music distributions. The mean opinion score ranged from 3.5 to 3.8, confirming the perceptual quality of the generated music. Full article

Electricity distribution systems face increasing challenges due to demand growth, regulatory requirements, and the integration of distributed generation. In this context, distribution companies must make strategic and well-supported investment decisions, particularly in asset reinforcement actions such as reconductoring. This paper presents a multi-stage methodology to optimize reconductoring investments under load forecasting uncertainties. The approach combines a decomposition strategy with Monte Carlo simulation to capture demand variability. By discretizing a lognormal probability density function and selecting the largest loads in the network, the methodology balances computational feasibility with modeling accuracy. The optimization model employs exhaustive search techniques independently for each network branch, ensuring precise and consistent investment decisions. Tests conducted on the IEEE 123-bus feeder consider both operational and regulatory constraints from the Brazilian context. Results show that uncertainty-aware planning leads to a narrow investment range—between USD 55,108 and USD 66,504—highlighting the necessity of reconductoring regardless of demand scenarios. A comparative analysis of representative cases reveals consistent interventions, changes in conductor selection, and schedule adjustments based on load conditions. The proposed methodology enables flexible, cost-effective, and regulation-compliant investment planning, offering valuable insights for utilities seeking to enhance network reliability and performance while managing demand uncertainties. This study presented a comprehensive investigation into the performance of object detection models tailored for edge devices, particularly in the context of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle swarms. Object detection plays a pivotal role in enhancing autonomous navigation, situational awareness, and target tracking capabilities within UAV swarms, where computing resources are constrained by the onboard low-cost computers. Initially, a thorough review of the existing literature was conducted to identify state-of-the-art object detection models suitable for deployment on edge devices. These models are evaluated based on their speed, accuracy, and efficiency, with a focus on real-time inference capabilities crucial for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle applications. Following the literature review, selected models undergo empirical validation through custom training using the Vision Meets Drone dataset, a widely recognized dataset for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle-based object detection tasks. Performance metrics such as mean average precision, inference speed, and resource utilization were measured and compared across different models. Lastly, the study extended its analysis beyond traditional object detection to explore the efficacy of instance segmentation and proposed an optimization to an object tracking technique within the context of unmanned Aerial Vehicles. Instance segmentation offers finer-grained object delineation, enabling more precise target or landmark identification and tracking, albeit at higher resource usage and higher inference time. Flexibility is advocated as an effective solution to address the growing need to alleviate grid congestion, necessitating efficient energy management strategies for industrial operations. This paper presents a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP)-based optimization framework for a flexible asset in an industrial setting, aiming to minimize operational costs and enhance energy efficiency. The method integrates dynamic pricing and real-time grid analysis, alongside a state estimation model using Extended Kalman Filtering (EKF) that improves the accuracy of system state predictions. Model Predictive Control (MPC) is employed for real-time adjustments. A real-world case studies from aquaculture industries and industrial power grids in Denmark demonstrates the approach. By leveraging dynamic pricing and grid signals, the system enables adaptive pump scheduling, achieving a 27% reduction in energy costs while maintaining voltage stability within 0.95–1.05 p.u. and ensuring operational safety. These results confirm the effectiveness of grid-aware, flexible control in reducing costs and enhancing stability, supporting the transition toward smarter, sustainable industrial energy systems. With the increasing uncertainty introduced by the large-scale integration of renewable energy sources, traditional power dispatching methods face significant challenges, including severe frequency fluctuations, substantial forecasting deviations, and the difficulty of balancing economic efficiency with system stability. To address these issues, a deep learning-based dispatching framework is proposed, which integrates spatiotemporal feature extraction with a stability-aware mechanism. A joint forecasting model is constructed using Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) to handle multi-source inputs, while a reinforcement learning-based stability-aware scheduler is developed to manage dynamic system responses. In addition, an uncertainty modeling mechanism combining Dropout and Bayesian networks is incorporated to enhance dispatch robustness. Experiments conducted on real-world power grid and renewable generation datasets demonstrate that the proposed forecasting module achieves approximately a 2.1% improvement in accuracy compared with Autoformer and reduces Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) by 18.1% and 14.1%, respectively, compared with traditional LSTM models. The achieved Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) of 5.82% outperforms all baseline models. In terms of scheduling performance, the proposed method reduces the total operating cost by 5.8% relative to Autoformer, decreases the frequency deviation from 0.158 Hz to 0.129 Hz, and increases the Critical Clearing Time (CCT) to 2.74 s, significantly enhancing dynamic system stability. Ablation studies reveal that removing the uncertainty modeling module increases the frequency deviation to 0.153 Hz and raises operational costs by approximately 6.9%, confirming the critical role of this module in maintaining robustness. Furthermore, under diverse load profiles and meteorological disturbances, the proposed method maintains stable forecasting accuracy and scheduling policy outputs, demonstrating strong generalization capabilities. Overall, the proposed approach achieves a well-balanced performance in terms of forecasting precision, system stability, and economic efficiency in power grids with high renewable energy penetration, indicating substantial potential for practical deployment and further research. The Santurbán paramo is a sensitive high-mountain ecosystem exposed to pressures from extractive and agricultural activities, as well as increasing tourism. In response, this study presents a context-aware recommendation system designed to support sustainable tourism through the integration of deep neural networks and ontology-based semantic modeling. The proposed system delivers personalized recommendations—such as activities, accommodations, and ecological routes—by processing user preferences, geolocation data, and contextual features, including cost and popularity. The architecture combines a trained TensorFlow Lite model with a domain ontology enriched with GeoSPARQL for geospatial reasoning. All inference operations are conducted locally on Android devices, supported by SQLite for offline data storage, which ensures functionality in connectivity-restricted environments and preserves user privacy. Additionally, the system employs geofencing to trigger real-time environmental notifications when users approach ecologically sensitive zones, promoting responsible behavior and biodiversity awareness. By incorporating structured semantic knowledge with adaptive machine learning, the system enables low-latency, personalized, and conservation-oriented recommendations. This approach contributes to the sustainable management of natural reserves by aligning individual tourism experiences with ecological protection objectives, particularly in remote areas like the Santurbán paramo. Emotion regulation is essential for mental health. However, many people ignore their own emotional regulation or are deterred by the high cost of psychological counseling, which poses significant challenges to making effective support widely available. This review systematically examines the convergence of multimodal sensing technologies and large language models (LLMs) for the development of Automated Emotional Regulation (AER) systems. The review draws upon a comprehensive analysis of the existing literature, encompassing research papers, technical reports, and relevant theoretical frameworks. Key findings indicate that multimodal sensing offers the potential for rich, contextualized data pertaining to emotional states, while LLMs provide improved capabilities for interpreting these inputs and generating nuanced, empathetic, and actionable regulatory responses. The integration of these technologies, including physiological sensors, behavioral tracking, and advanced LLM architectures, presents the improvement of application, moving AER beyond simpler, rule-based systems towards more adaptive, context-aware, and human-like interventions. Opportunities for personalized interventions, real-time support, and novel applications in mental healthcare and other domains are considerable. However, these prospects are counterbalanced by significant challenges and limitations. In summary, this review synthesizes current technological advancements, identifies substantial opportunities for innovation and application, and critically analyzes the multifaceted technical, ethical, and practical challenges inherent in this domain. It also concludes that while the integration of multimodal sensing and LLMs holds significant potential for AER, the field is nascent and requires concerted research efforts to realize its full capacity to enhance human well-being. Self-Reported Physical Activity Among Individuals with Diabetes Mellitus in Germany—Identifying Potential Barriers and Facilitators

Background/Objectives: Physical activity is a cornerstone of diabetes mellitus (DM) management and is strongly recommended in the American Diabetes Association (ADA)’s guidelines. This study aims to investigate the self-reported physical activity levels of individuals with DM in Germany, as well as the barriers and facilitators they encounter. Methods: Individuals with type 1 DM (T1DM) and type 2 DM (T2DM) were asked to fill out an online questionnaire that was partly based on the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Results: The questionnaire was completed by 338 persons with either T1DM (57.1%) or T2DM (42.9%) (females: 56.2%, males: 42.0%, gender diverse persons: 1.8%) of all age groups (at least 18 years). In total, 80.5% of respondents were aware of the current physical activity recommendations. Among the respondents, 58% reported meeting the recommendations for endurance-type physical activity, while only 30.5% reported meeting those for strength training. The three most frequently cited barriers to physical activity were lack of time, lack of motivation and current state of health. Supporting factors included coverage of costs, availability of exercise programs in close proximity to the patient’s home and target group specific exercise programs. Conclusions: The results imply that many individuals with DM in Germany do not meet ADA’s physical activity recommendations, especially considering that self-reports often overestimate actual behavior. In particular, the actual number of individuals who regularly engage in strength training may be too low. There is a clear need to better communicate the benefits of different forms of physical training and to provide physical activity programs aligned with patients’ individual needs. Full article
