In the current era, Indian agriculture faces a significant demand for increased food production, which has led to the integration of advanced technologies to enhance efficiency and productivity. Drones have emerged as transformative tools for enhancing precision agriculture, reducing costs, and improving sustainability. This study provides a comprehensive review of drone adoption in Indian agriculture by examining its effects on precision farming, crop monitoring, and pesticide application. This research evaluates technological advancements, regulatory frameworks, infrastructure, farmers’ perceptions, and the financial accessibility of drone technology in the Indian agricultural context. Key findings indicate that, while drone adoption enhances efficiency and sustainability, challenges such as high costs, lack of training, and regulatory barriers hinder widespread implementation. This paper also explores the growing market for agricultural drones in India, highlighting key industry players and projected market growth. Furthermore, it addresses regional differences in adoption rates and emphasizes the increasing social acceptance of drones among Indian farmers. To bridge the gap between potential and practice, the study proposes several policy and institutional recommendations, including government-led financial incentives, training programs, and public–private partnerships to facilitate drone integration. Moreover, this review article also highlights technological advancements, such as AI and IoT, in agriculture. Finally, open issues and future research directions for drones are discussed. Digitalization is rapidly reshaping the global construction industry; however, its adoption in developing countries, such as Pakistan, remains limited and uneven. Hence, this study investigates and evaluates the current status of digital technology integration in Pakistan’s construction industry, with a primary focus on key tools, implementation challenges, and necessary policy interventions. Using a three-phase mixed-method approach involving a literature review, expert interviews, and a nationwide survey, this research identifies Building Information Modeling, Geographic Information Systems, and E-Procurement as essential technologies with strong potential to improve transparency, efficiency, and collaboration. However, adoption is hindered by a lack of awareness, limited technical expertise, and the absence of a cohesive national policy. This study also highlights that the private sector shows greater readiness compared to the public sector; however, systemic barriers persist across both sectors. Based on stakeholder insights, a three-part policy strategy was also proposed. This includes establishing a national regulatory framework, investing in capacity-building programs, and providing financial or institutional incentives to encourage the adoption of these measures. The findings emphasize that digitalization is not just a technical upgrade; it represents a pathway to improved governance and more efficient infrastructure delivery. With timely and coordinated policy action, the construction industry in Pakistan can align itself with global innovation trends and move toward a more sustainable and digitally empowered future. Sustainable Integration of Prosumers’ Battery Energy Storage Systems’ Optimal Operation with Reduction in Grid Losses

Driven by the need for sustainable and efficient energy systems, the optimal management of distributed generation, including photovoltaic systems and battery energy storage systems within prosumer households, is of crucial importance. This requires a comprehensive cost–benefit analysis to assess their viability. In this study, an optimization model formulated as a mixed-integer linear programming problem is proposed to evaluate the integration of battery storage systems for 10 prosumers on the radial feeder in Croatia and to quantify the benefits both from the prosumers’ perspective and that of the reduction in grid losses. The results show significant annual cost reductions for prosumers, totaling EUR 1798.78 for the observed feeder, with some achieving a net profit. Grid losses are significantly reduced by 1172.52 kWh, resulting in an annual saving of EUR 216.25 for the distribution system operator. However, under the current Croatian market conditions, the integration of battery storage systems is not profitable over the entire lifetime due to the high initial investment costs of EUR 720/kWh. The break-even analysis reveals that investment cost needs to decrease by 52.78%, or an inflation rate of 4.87% is required, to reach prosumer profitability. This highlights the current financial barriers to the widespread adoption of battery storage systems and emphasizes the need for significant cost reductions or targeted incentives. Full article

The growing concern over environmental sustainability has intensified the focus on consumers’ perceptions of eco-friendly food packaging, especially among younger generations. This study aims to investigate the attitudes, preferences, and barriers faced by Greek university students regarding sustainable food packaging, a demographic considered pivotal for driving future consumption trends. An online questionnaire assessing perceptions, preferences, and behaviours related to sustainable packaging was administered to students, with responses measured on a five-point Likert scale. Three hundred and sixty-four students took part in this survey, with the majority (60%) of them being female. Principal component analysis was employed to identify underlying factors influencing perceptions, and k-means cluster analysis revealed two consumer segments: “Innovatives”, including one hundred and ninety-eight participants (54%), who demonstrate strong environmental awareness and willingness to adopt sustainable behaviours, and “Sceptics”, including one hundred sixty-six participants (46%), who show moderate engagement and remain cautious in their choices. Convenience, affordability, and clear product communication emerged as significant factors shaping student preferences. The findings suggest that targeted educational campaigns and transparent information are essential to converting positive attitudes into consistent purchasing behaviours. This research provides valuable insights for policymakers and marketers looking to design effective sustainability strategies tailored to the student population. Full article

This study explores the role of solidarity finance in promoting local development and the empowerment of marginalized communities through financial inclusion and access to community credits. It focuses on how solidarity-based financial mechanisms provide accessible credit with fewer barriers, fostering productive activities and economic resilience. This study employed a quantitative and exploratory design, analyzing data from 51 community funds in Ecuador out of a total of 220 through a self-administered online survey, validated by auditing professionals and answered by community representatives. The 25-item questionnaire gathered data on organizational dynamics, financial practices, and perceptions of sustainability. Descriptive analysis was complemented with an analysis of variance to test hypotheses concerning associativity, self-management, and organizational performance. The results show that while associativity, self-management, and organizational management are perceived as institutional strengths, aspects such as autonomy and solidarity received lower evaluations, suggesting critical areas for strategic improvement. Notably, significant differences emerged between self-management–organization and solidarity–organization groups, emphasizing the importance of associativity (collaboration) in enhancing the sustainability of solidarity finance, which proves to be a vital mechanism for community empowerment and local development; however, its long-term sustainability depends on strengthening internal dimensions, particularly autonomy and solidarity, and reinforcing associativity as a core driver of organizational resilience. The shift from Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles (ICEVs) to Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) has accelerated global efforts to decarbonize transportation. However, battery degradation, high costs, and limited lifespan remain critical barriers. This review synthesizes recent innovations to extend Li-ion battery life in BEVs by exploring advances in degradation modeling, adaptive Battery Management Systems (BMSs), electronic component simulations, and real-world usage profiling. The authors have systematically analyzed over 80 recent studies using a PRISMA-guided review protocol. A novel comparative framework highlights gaps in current literature, particularly regarding real-world driving impacts, ripple current effects, and second-life battery applications. This review article critically compares model-driven, data-driven, and hybrid model approaches, emphasizing trade-offs in interpretability, accuracy, and deployment feasibility. Finally, the review links battery life extension to broader sustainability metrics, including circular economy models and predictive maintenance algorithms. This review offers actionable insights for researchers, engineers, and policymakers aiming to design longer-lasting and more sustainable electric mobility systems. Full article

The construction industry is a major consumer of raw materials and a significant contributor to environmental emissions. Life cycle assessment (LCA) using digital models is a valuable tool for conducting a science-based analysis to reduce these impacts. However, transferring data from environmental product declarations (EPDs) to BIM for the purpose of sustainability assessment requires significant resources for its interpretation and integration. This study is founded on a comprehensive review of the scientific literature and standards, an analysis of published digital EPDs, and a thorough evaluation of IFC (industry foundation classes), identifying twenty gaps for the automated incorporation of LCA data from construction products into BIM. The identified limitations were assessed using the digital model of a building pilot, applying simplifications to incorporate actual EPD data. This paper presents the identified barriers to the automated incorporation of digital EPDs into BIM, and proposes eleven concrete actions to improve IFC 4.3. While prior studies have analyzed the environmental data in IFC, this research is significant in two key areas. Firstly, it focuses on the direct machine interpretation of environmental information without human intervention. Market Research on Waste Biomass Material for Combined Energy Production in Bulgaria: A Path Toward Enhanced Energy Efficiency

Using waste biomass as a raw material for the combined production of electricity and heat offers corresponding energy, economic, environmental and resource efficiency benefits. The study examines both the performance of a system for combined energy production based on the Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) utilizing wood biomass and the market interest in its deployment within Bulgaria. Its objective is to propose a technically and economically viable solution for the recovery of waste biomass through the combined production of electricity and heat while simultaneously assessing the readiness of industrial and municipal sectors to adopt such systems. The cogeneration plant incorporates an ORC module enhanced with three additional economizers that capture residual heat from flue gases. Operating on 2 t/h of biomass, the system delivers 1156 kW of electric power and 3660 kW of thermal energy, recovering an additional 2664 kW of heat. The overall energy efficiency reaches 85%, with projected annual revenues exceeding EUR 600,000 and a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of over 5800 t/yr. These indicators can be achieved through optimal installation and operation. When operating at a reduced load, however, the specific fuel consumption increases and the overall efficiency of the installation decreases. The marketing survey results indicate that 75% of respondents express interest in adopting such technologies, contingent upon the availability of financial incentives. The strongest demand is observed for systems with capacities up to 1000 kW. However, significant barriers remain, including high initial investment costs and uneven access to raw materials. The findings confirm that the developed system offers a technologically robust, environmentally efficient and market-relevant solution, aligned with the goals of energy independence, sustainability and the transition to a low-carbon economy. Despite growing global momentum to reduce the number of children who never received a dose of any vaccine, i.e., zero-dose (ZD) children, persistent geographic and social inequities continue to undermine progress toward universal immunization coverage. In Madagascar, where routine vaccination coverage remains below 50% in most regions, the non-governmental organization Doctors for Madagascar and public sector partners are implementing the SOAMEVA program: a targeted community-based initiative to identify and reach ZD children in sixteen underserved districts in the country’s south. This paper outlines the equity-sensitive evaluation design developed to assess the implementation and impact of SOAMEVA. It presents a forward-looking evaluation framework that integrates both quantitative program monitoring and qualitative community insights. By focusing at the fokontany level—the smallest administrative unit in Madagascar—the evaluation captures small-scale variation in ZD prevalence and program reach, allowing for a detailed analysis of disparities often masked in aggregated data. Importantly, the evaluation includes structured feedback loops with community health workers and caregivers, surfacing local knowledge on barriers to immunization access and program adoption. It also tracks real-time adaptations to implementation strategy across diverse contexts, offering insight into how routine immunization programs can be made more responsive, sustainable, and equitable. We propose eight design principles for conducting equity-sensitive evaluation of immunization programs in similar fragile settings. Full article

Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics are increasingly pivotal for reducing carbon emissions in supply chain management (SCM); however, research exploring their combined potential from a sustainability perspective remains fragmented. This study aims to systematically map the research landscape and synthesize evidence on the applications, benefits, and challenges. Methods: A systematic scoping review was conducted on 23 peer-reviewed studies from the Scopus database, published between 2013 and 2024. Data were systematically extracted and analyzed for publication trends, application domains (e.g., transportation, warehousing), specific AI and robotic technologies, emissions reduction strategies, and implementation challenges. Results: The analysis reveals that AI-driven logistics optimization is the most frequently reported strategy for reducing transportation emissions. At the same time, robotic automation is commonly associated with improved energy efficiency in warehousing. Despite these benefits, the reviewed literature consistently identifies significant barriers, including the high energy demands of AI computation and complexities in data integration. Conclusions: This review confirms the transformative potential of AI and robotics for developing low-carbon supply chains. An evidence-based framework is proposed to guide practical implementation and identify critical gaps, such as the need for standardized validation benchmarks, to direct future research and accelerate the transition to sustainable SCM. As an important ecological barrier and animal husbandry resource base in arid and semi-arid areas, grassland degradation directly affects regional ecological security and sustainable development. Ili Prefecture is located in the western part of Xinjiang, China, and is a typical grassland resource-rich area. However, in recent years, driven by climate change and human activities, grassland degradation has become increasingly serious. In view of the lack of comprehensive evaluation indicators and the inconsistency of grassland evaluation grade standards in remote sensing monitoring of grassland resource degradation, this study takes the current situation of grassland degradation in Ili Prefecture in the past 20 years as the research object and constructs a comprehensive evaluation index system covering three criteria layers of vegetation characteristics, environmental characteristics, and utilization characteristics. Net primary productivity (NPP), vegetation coverage, temperature, precipitation, soil erosion modulus, and grazing intensity were selected as multi-source indicators. Combined with data sources such as remote sensing inversion, sample survey, meteorological data, and farmer survey, the factor weight coefficient was determined by analytic hierarchy process. The Grassland Degeneration Comprehensive Index (GDCI) model was constructed to carry out remote sensing monitoring and evaluation of grassland degradation in Yili Prefecture. With reference to the classification threshold of the national standard for grassland degradation, the GDCI grassland degradation evaluation grade threshold (GDCI reduction rate) was determined by the method of weighted average of coefficients: non-degradation (0–10%), mild degradation (10–20%), moderate degradation (20–37.66%) and severe degradation (more than 37.66%). According to the results, between 2000 and 2022, non-degraded grasslands in Ili Prefecture covered an area of 27,200 km2, representing 90.19% of the total grassland area. Slight, moderate, and severe degradation accounted for 4.34%, 3.33%, and 2.15%, respectively. Moderately and severely degraded areas are primarily distributed in agro-pastoral transition zones and economically developed urban regions, respectively. The results revealed the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of grassland degradation in Yili Prefecture and provided data basis and technical support for regional grassland resource management, degradation prevention and control and ecological restoration. Drawing on Resource-Based View, Stakeholder Theory, Institutional Theory, and the Socio-Technical Systems perspective, we propose an integrated framework in which AI and HRM function as complementary enablers of sustainable, circular transformation. The framework identifies enablers (e.g., green HRM, digital infrastructure), barriers (e.g., ethical concerns, skill gaps), and contextual mediators. This study contributes to sustainability and digital innovation literature and suggests practical pathways for ethically aligning workforce and AI capabilities in CE adoption. Full article

However, realising the circular economy goal requires adequate information sharing among stakeholders and across the building lifecycle stages. This research examines the barriers that impede the information-sharing process in construction projects for the circular economy. This research adopts the framework of the information-sharing process, which suggests four essential components: context, content, people, and media. This study systematically searches and analyses the literature to identify and classify the information sharing barriers in the circular economy context, as well as their interaction. This study also conducts a case study to validate the information barrier framework and the findings. The findings suggest that information barriers are interlinked and require comprehensive solutions from the aspects of technology, organisation, and people, instead of single-aspect solutions. As this study provides insights into the systemic complexities of how information flows within the circular economy implementation system, it consequently contributes to the improvement of sustainable construction practices. Tuberculosis (TB) remains a leading cause of death in Bangladesh, disproportionately affecting low socio-economic status (SES) populations. This review, guided by the WHO Social Determinants of Health framework and Rockefeller-Lancet Planetary Health Report, examined how social, economic, and ecological factors link SES to TB burden. The first literature search identified 28 articles focused on SES-TB relationships in Bangladesh. A second search through snowballing and conceptual mapping yielded 55 more papers of diverse source types and disciplines. Low-SES groups face elevated TB risk due to smoking, biomass fuel use, malnutrition, limited education, stigma, financial barriers, and hazardous housing or workplaces. These factors delay care-seeking, worsen outcomes, and fuel transmission, especially among women. High-SES groups more often face comorbidities like diabetes, which increase TB risk. Broader contextual drivers include urbanisation, weak labour protections, cultural norms, and poor governance. Recommendations include housing and labour reform, gender parity in education, and integrating private providers into TB programmes. These align with the WHO End TB Strategy, UN SDGs and Planetary Health Quadruple Aims, which expand the traditional Triple Aim for health system design by integrating environmental sustainability alongside improved patient outcomes, population health, and cost efficiency. Future research should explore trust in frontline workers, reasons for consulting informal carers, links between makeshift housing and TB, and integrating ecological determinants into existing frameworks. Chronic nasopharyngeal and otic disorders in children represent a significant clinical challenge due to their multifactorial etiology, variable presentation, and frequent resistance to standard therapies. Although often approached from a symptomatic or anatomical perspective, these conditions are deeply rooted in histological and molecular alterations that sustain inflammation, impair mucosal function, and promote recurrence. This narrative review synthesizes the current knowledge on the normal histology of the nasopharynx, Eustachian tube, and middle ear, and explores key pathophysiological mechanisms, including epithelial remodeling, immune cell infiltration, cytokine imbalance, and tissue fibrosis. Special emphasis is placed on the role of immunohistochemistry in defining inflammatory phenotypes, barrier dysfunction, and remodeling pathways. The presence of biofilm, epithelial plasticity, and dysregulated cytokine signaling are also discussed as contributors to disease chronicity. These findings have direct implications for diagnosis, therapeutic stratification, and postoperative monitoring. By integrating histological, immunological, and molecular data, clinicians can better characterize disease subtypes, anticipate treatment outcomes, and move toward a more personalized and biologically informed model of pediatric ENT care.
