This study aims to develop eco-efficient ceramic tiles through the valorization of recycled glass (GW; soda–lime glass cullet) as a partial raw material substituent, enabling a reduction in sintering temperature and, consequently, a decrease in thermal energy demand, carbon-equivalent emissions, and the depletion of virgin mineral resources. Ceramic tiles were elaborated by partially substituting natural bentonite with 30–50 wt.% GW and fired at 900 °C and 950 °C. Use of GW promoted liquid-phase sintering, driving significant densification evidenced by a marked reduction in open porosity and water absorption. SEM images confirm a denser, more homogeneous structure with reduced porosity, leading to improved mechanical strength and chemical durability. Compositions containing 30–35 wt.% bentonite exhibit the most optimized microstructure, characterized by well-dispersed crystalline phases embedded within a dense vitreous matrix. These findings demonstrate that high-performance ceramic tiles meeting standard classification thresholds can be manufactured at sub-1000 °C firing temperatures through judicious incorporation of recycled glass waste. This approach offers a viable pathway toward reduced energy consumption, diminished reliance on primary mineral resources, and enhanced circularity within the construction ceramics industry. Local impedance variations in structural waveguides partially reflect and absorb incident
flexural waves, motivating wave-based strategies for passive vibration control. This study
develops and experimentally validates a wave-energy framework to quantify and optimize
flexural wave absorption by Kelvin–Voigt attachments on a finite Timoshenko beam.
A finite element model is validated against Scanning Laser Doppler Vibrometry measurements
from a clamped–clamped aluminum beam with a passive damper mounted near
one end, with dashpot parameters identified through two independent approaches and
the discrepancies attributed to parameter uncertainty. Wave decomposition of the simulated
and measured velocity fields yields the power reflection coefficient ρ(ω) and power
absorption coefficient α(ω) over the 0–15.3 kHz band. The spring stiffness and damping
coefficient exhibit frequency-dependent optima and act as complementary, jointly tuned design
variables. Expressing dashpot location in wavelength-normalized coordinates reveals
a recurring spatial pattern in which absorption minima cluster around half-wavelength
multiples, while multiple spanwise positions yield near-peak absorption at any given
frequency. This pattern is governed primarily by the flexural wavelength, decoupling
placement from parameter tuning, and persists across clamped–clamped, clamped–free,
and free–free boundary conditions. Two independently tuned dampers further broaden the
effective absorption band by suppressing local minima in α(ω). These results demonstrate
that measurement-driven wave decomposition provides compact, physically grounded
guidelines for passive damper placement in beam structures. Full article

The steel industry is currently grappling with the dual environmental challenges of massive steel slag accumulation and carbon emissions. To address the limitations of traditional carbonation processes—namely slow reaction kinetics and insufficient mechanical properties—this study proposes a novel rapid carbonation enhancement method coupling microwave thermal field intensification, silicon carbide (SiC) physical absorption, and potassium silicate chemical activation. The effects of microwave heating parameters on the performance of carbonated steel slag blocks were systematically investigated. The results indicate a significant synergistic effect between the microwave thermal effect and the alkali-activated system. Under the conditions of a 0.14 liquid-to-solid ratio and microwave heating at 90 °C for 45 min, the compressive strength reached a peak of 48.82 MPa (a 44.7% increase over the conventional treatment group). Microstructural characterization revealed the reinforcement mechanism: the introduction of SiC and potassium silicate solution (K2SiO3) under microwave heating promotes a denser distribution of carbonation products. Synchronized with alkali activation, this effect promotes the in-situ growth of dense calcite crystals within a gel network, thereby significantly optimizing the pore structure (e.g., reducing the average pore size to 43 nm), and enhancing strength through synergistic effects. This research is subject to further energy and life-cycle assessments, and this approach holds potential for CO2 mineralization and the recycling of steel slag. Full article

This study comprehensively evaluates the mechanical properties, shrinkage behavior, and durability of concrete prepared with limestone- and granite-manufactured sands under standard-curing and steam-curing conditions. The results indicate that limestone-manufactured sand concrete consistently exhibits superior compressive strength and splitting tensile strength across all curing ages, outperforming granite-modified counterparts. The introduction of granite-manufactured sand significantly degrades these mechanical properties, with deterioration intensifying as granite content increases. Dynamic elastic modulus and damping ratio analyses reveal that limestone-based concrete maintains the highest dynamic stiffness and lowest energy dissipation under both curing regimes, suggesting fewer internal defects. In contrast, granite incorporation reduces the dynamic elastic modulus and increases the damping ratio, reflecting structural deterioration and enhanced energy loss. Drying shrinkage tests demonstrate that limestone concrete achieves the lowest shrinkage deformation throughout the testing period, even under steam-curing conditions. Conversely, granite addition markedly elevates shrinkage, particularly under steam-curing conditions, leading to compromised volumetric stability. Durability assessments highlight that manufactured sand concrete exhibits higher capillary absorption, electrical flux, and porosity, attributed to inherent material defects and the surface characteristics of manufactured sand. Granite-modified concrete further weakens interfacial shear strength between aggregates and cement paste, indicating poor interfacial bonding. Steam curing exacerbates microstructural defects, emphasizing the need to optimize curing protocols. The findings propose strategies for enhancing manufactured sand concrete performance: improving interfacial adhesion between aggregates and cement paste, rationalizing supplementary material dosages, and refining steam curing regimes. These measures offer potential pathways to develop high-performance manufactured sand concrete with balanced mechanical and durability properties. Full article

Quantum dot (QD) color conversion technology has attracted considerable attention in QD-OLED displays because it enables the generation of highly pure red and green emissions from blue OLED excitation with reduced fabrication complexity. Mixed QD color conversion layers consisting of red and green QDs dispersed in a polydimethylsiloxane matrix were fabricated to improve red color conversion efficiency and suppress blue leakage. The color conversion characteristics of the mixed QD layers were investigated by varying the QD contents and layer thicknesses. The color conversion spectra, blue leakage characteristics, color conversion efficiency, and output/input efficiency were systematically analyzed. Compared with red QD-only layers, the mixed QD layers exhibited more effective suppression of blue leakage and stronger red emission even at relatively small layer thicknesses. The red QD-only layer containing 100 mg of red QDs exhibited a color conversion efficiency of 16.7% at a thickness of 38 µm, whereas the mixed QD layer with the same red QD content achieved a higher color conversion efficiency of 19.3% at a thickness of only 5.6 µm. The enhanced color conversion efficiency of the mixed QD layers is likely associated with increased absorption of blue photons and additional excitation of red QDs through photon reabsorption and possible energy transfer processes between the green and red QDs. Two-dimensional (2D) materials have emerged as a key platform for next-generation electronics due to their atomic thickness and tunable properties. Iron disulfide (FeS2), known as pyrite, with a bandgap of ~0.95 eV, is suitable for solar energy applications. However, its performance is limited by defects in bulk crystals. Reducing FeS2 to a single layer eliminates bulk defects and enables strain engineering of the bandgap. In this study, First-principles density functional theory (DFT) calculations are performed using the CASTEP code and the PBEsol functional to examine the structural, electronic, and optical properties of a distorted 1T′-phase FeS2 monolayer. Full geometry optimization yields lattice parameters a′ = 17.594 Å, b′ = 3.20231 Å, c′ = 5.28091 Å, and Fe–S bond angles of ~75.8° and ~98.2°, confirming symmetry-breaking distortion. The monolayer is dynamically stable, showing no imaginary modes in the phonon dispersion, and remains structurally intact up to 1000 K in molecular dynamics simulations. The unstrained system has an indirect bandgap of 0.70 eV, with the valence band maximum at the Γ point (dominated by S-p states) and conduction band minimum near the X point (Fe-d states). Under mechanical strain (±4%), the bandgap decreases significantly: from 0.70 eV to 0.44 eV under +4% tensile strain along the y-axis, and to 0.53 eV under −4% compressive strain. Biaxial strain causes weaker modulation, reducing the gap to 0.66 eV (+4%) and 0.62 eV (−4%). Optical absorption exceeds 104 cm−1 for photon energies above the bandgap, with tensile strain causing redshifts and compressive strain inducing blueshifts. These findings demonstrate that 2D FeS2 is mechanically robust, electronically tunable, and optically active, making it a promising candidate material for flexible strain sensors and photovoltaic devices. This work is intended to motivate and inform future synthesis efforts. Full article

In this work, we investigated the incorporation of a fluorescent side group, fluorescein octyl ester (FOE), in benzodithiophene-based donor–acceptor terpolymers as a strategy to modulate excited-state behavior. Three FOE-containing terpolymers (P2-iIa-c), obtained at different polymerization times, were systematically evaluated against an analogous material without the fluorescent pendant unit (P1-iI). Thermal analysis revealed good thermal stability and an increase in glass transition temperature upon FOE incorporation, suggesting restricted segmental mobility and increased conformational constraints within the conjugated backbone. Optical characterization showed distinct absorption spectra with reaction time and shorter fluorescence lifetimes for the FOE-containing materials, consistent with the presence of additional excited-state deactivation pathways and intramolecular energy transfer processes within the terpolymer backbone. An approximate estimation of energy transfer efficiencies (≈60–65%) suggested that such processes may be operative within the system. Cyclic voltammetry measurements showed only minor variations in HOMO and LUMO energy levels between P1-iI and P2-iIa-c series, indicating that the conjugated backbone predominantly determined the frontier orbital energies despite side chain modification. Furthermore, photocurrent measurements from the bilayer device configuration exhibited a systematic increase in photocurrent for the FOE-containing material, supporting the role of excitonic modulation, rather than significant changes in interfacial energetic alignment. These results suggest that fluorescent side chain incorporation provides an effective strategy for regulating exciton dynamics while maintaining the electronic structure of the donor–acceptor terpolymer. Oil spills represent a critical environmental challenge. The wastewater treatment with porous sorbents presents the advantage of higher uptake and recyclability. In this work, highly porous and low-density three-dimensional reduced graphene oxide aerogels were obtained by hydrothermal reduction followed by lyophilization. The porosity and reduction degree of the aerogels were controlled by the addition of reducing species, namely ethylenediamine, and hydrothermal conditions. The aerogels were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis. The sorption measurements were performed with vegetable oils, namely canola and olive oil, at varying operating temperatures. The morphological analysis revealed a well-defined porosity gradient along the aerogel length, along with a functionalization gradient. The sorption performance is highly dependent on their combined action. The maximum gravimetric absorption capacity was about 122 g g−1 at room temperature, increasing to 156 g g−1 at 60 °C, with the absorption rate increasing from about 1 g g−1 s−1 to 15 g g−1 s−1 within 10 s. These results demonstrate that anisotropic gradient aerogels could be obtained by simple tailoring of the synthesis conditions, and such aerogels could benefit the sorption of oils with higher viscosities in terms of rate, pore filling and retention. In cold, humid environments, even a small amount of ice accumulation on the blade surface can degrade aerodynamic performance, increase drag, induce premature stall and vibration, and raise the risks of shutdown, fatigue, and ice throw. Existing blade anti-icing and de-icing strategies (such as passive coatings, electrothermal heating, hot-air systems, and hybrid designs) struggle to simultaneously meet the requirements of lightweight construction, low-voltage rapid heating, conformability to curved surfaces, erosion resistance, long-term durability, and scalable manufacturing. MXenes, particularly Ti3C2Tx, have attracted attention due to their high electrical conductivity, broadband optical absorption, solution processability, tunable interfacial chemistry, and good compatibility with polymer matrices. However, their oxidation issue and blade-scale deployment challenges (coating chemistry, scalable fabrication, real-world testing) remain obstacles. Based on this, this review discusses Ti3C2Tx-based anti-icing, de-icing, and defogging strategies for wind turbine blades, with emphasis on material properties, functional mechanisms, coating architectures, fabrication routes, durability, and scalability, and highlights their potential for lightweight and energy-efficient all-weather blade protection. Finally, future research directions for Ti3C2Tx-based blade anti-icing and de-icing are prospected. This review not only aims to identify key knowledge gaps in current research but also strives to provide a theoretical reference for the application of Ti3C2Tx in the complex service environment of real wind turbine blades, thereby moving beyond idealized laboratory conditions. Against the backdrop of the dual-carbon strategy, China’s civil aviation industry, as a high-energy-consumption and high-carbon-emission sector, faces mounting pressure for low-carbon transformation. As the dominant airlines within China’s civil aviation system, Air China, China Eastern Airlines, and China Southern Airlines play a pivotal role in guiding the industry’s high-quality development. Employing the Global Malmquist–Luenberger (GML) index model, this study constructs a global production frontier incorporating undesirable outputs to systematically measure the dynamic evolution of total factor productivity (TFP) for the three major airlines in the period 2005–2023, and further applies a combined static-dynamic regression framework to identify the firm-level heterogeneous mechanisms through which explanatory factors operate. The results reveal significant heterogeneity in TFP trajectories: China Southern Airlines exhibits the most stable efficiency with the lowest volatility; China Eastern Airlines displays the greatest volatility but the strongest post-crisis rebound; and Air China occupies an intermediate position in both efficiency level and volatility. This differentiation stems from fundamental differences in market positioning, strategic orientation, and resource allocation patterns. Market competitiveness exerts a significantly positive effect on TFP for both Air China and China Eastern Airlines. Technological innovation investment generates short-run negative effects across all three airlines, albeit with divergent magnitudes. Human capital accumulation acts as a positive driver for Air China but produces a negative effect for China Southern Airlines, attributable to a structural mismatch between aggressive talent upgrading and organizational absorptive capacity. Shifting the unit of analysis to the firm level, this study identifies three heterogeneous strategic archetypes—market-led, scale-expansion, and regional-deepening—and constructs a differentiated “one firm, one policy” framework to provide targeted policy guidance for improving airline efficiency and facilitating low-carbon transition under carbon constraints. With the aim of achieving outstanding thermal control and corrosion resistance properties, a white MAO thermal control coating sealed by a silicon–zirconium hybrid sol–gel layer was prepared in this work. The corrosion behavior of the coating was evaluated using potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution. Microstructural and compositional characterizations were conducted using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Results indicated that the sol–gel/MAO composite coating significantly outperformed the single-layer MAO coating in corrosion resistance, primarily due to effective sealing of micro-pores and cracks by the sol–gel layer, which prevented the penetration of corrosive agents. The post-immersion morphological observations were in good agreement with the EIS results. After immersion, the corrosion current density of the composite coating only increased from 10−6.4 to 10−5.1 A/cm2, while the corrosion potential decreased from −1.25 V to −1.35 V. The post-immersion morphological observations were consistent with EIS results. Meanwhile, the composite coating can effectively mitigate the thermal control performance degradation caused by corrosion. Compared with the MAO coating, the absolute increase in solar absorptance of the sol–gel/MAO coating is reduced by 60%. After 168 h of accelerated corrosion tests in a simulated marine environment, the solar absorptance (αS) of the sol–gel/MAO coating increased by only 0.05. This study demonstrates that the combination of MAO and sol–gel treatment provides a promising strategy for the development of lightweight, corrosion-resistant magnesium alloys for aerospace applications. The manuscript deals with the bending behavior of beams with relatively less investigated cellular topologies based on triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMSs). Three types of sandwich-type specimens (namely Schoen IWP, Fischer–Koch S, and Schoen F-RD) with five different volume fractions of 10, 15, 20, 25, and 35% (±1%) made of aluminum alloy AlSi10Mg by selective laser melting (SLM) technology were investigated. Three-point bending tests were performed at room temperature on a Zwick/Roell 1456 universal testing machine. The force–deflection dependences were plotted, while in addition to nominal stresses, the effective flexural stiffness and energy absorption to failure were evaluated to compare the properties of the investigated cellular beams. In the preparatory phase, critical aspects of possible premature failure of the samples with the smallest and highest selected volume fractions were addressed, while the manufacturability and fracture surfaces of the samples were assessed in order to improve the input conditions of the setup. By comparing the results obtained in the experimental testing in the second phase, it was found that the highest nominal bending stresses were achieved by the Schoen F-RD structure (although not significantly higher than Fischer–Koch S), but in terms of stiffness and amount of absorbed energy, the Fischer–Koch S structure showed the highest values. The improvement of input parameters led to an increase in the achieved nominal bending stresses by at least 100 MPa for all types of investigated structures compared to the first phase. The combined use of preliminary SLM process optimization, bending tests, and fracture surface/EDX analysis made it possible to relate the flexural response of the investigated TPMS topologies to manufacturing-related defects and premature-failure mechanisms in thin-walled AlSi10Mg cellular structures. The presented specimen configuration is intended as a comparative experimental benchmark for flexural performance of sandwich-type TPMS beams under quasi-static loading. Full article

This paper focuses on 220 kV cable sheath overvoltage caused by three typical operating conditions: harmonics, short-circuits, and lightning strikes. A sheath voltage simulation model on the 220 kV side is developed in PSCAD. Through multi-parameter scanning and sensitivity analysis, the overvoltage characteristics and key influencing factors are systematically studied, and engineering optimization strategies for sheath protector configuration are proposed for different types of overvoltage. Under harmonic conditions, a suppression circuit composed of discharge capacitance and discharge resistors is proposed to attenuate high-frequency disturbances. Under high-amplitude overvoltage conditions such as short-circuits and lightning strikes, the sheath protector configuration is optimized by adjusting cable length and grounding configuration. Under large current conditions, a parallel configuration scheme for sheath protectors is proposed from the perspective of energy absorption. Multi-condition simulations are conducted, and a simulation-based case study is carried out based on the actual layout and parameters of a traction substation cable line. The results show that the proposed strategies can effectively reduce the peak value of sheath overvoltage, providing simulation-based quantitative engineering guidance for the configuration of 220 kV cable sheath protectors based on sensitivity analysis results. The discharge of pesticide residues (PRs) from agricultural activities into water bodies has raised concerns about their toxicity to humans and the ecosystem. Traditional methods such as adsorption, membrane filtration, biological treatment, and conventional filtration usually result in incomplete removal of PRs. Currently, removal of PRs using advanced oxidation processes, particularly metal oxide-based photocatalysts, is considered a promising way. This review provides a comprehensive overview of recent advances in the photocatalytic degradation of PRs using TiO2-based photocatalysts (T-BPs), the most widely investigated metal-oxide photocatalyst systems. First, we discuss the distribution, types, and negative impacts of major PRs on humans and the ecosystem. Next, we explore modification methods to enhance the properties of T-BPs, including light absorption behavior, charge separation rate, and photocatalytic degradation performance toward PRs. Afterward, this review carefully examines current challenges, such as complex water matrices, T-BP stability, energy supply for photocatalysis, and toxicity reduction. Finally, we highlight key future research directions, like the development of visible light-driven photocatalysts, enhanced mineralization efficiency, reduced secondary environmental risks, and the design of highly reliable catalyst and reactor systems for sustainable large-scale applications.
