Leading agribusiness firms are pivotal to modernizing agricultural supply chains, yet evidence on how digital transformation translates into high-quality development remains fragmented. Using a 2024 sample of 30 Chinese national agribusiness leaders and the technology–organization–environment (TOE) framework, we integrate grey relational analysis with DEMATEL to quantify interdependencies among conditions, and combine fuzzy-set QCA with necessary condition analysis to identify both configurational pathways and binding constraints. The results of the analysis indicate that high-quality development rarely stems from a single driver; it emerges from complementary bundles linking digital technologies and R&D investment with organizational readiness (e.g., talent and governance) under supportive external conditions (e.g., policy incentives and market pressure). The findings provide a configurational explanation of digital upgrading in agribusiness and inform differentiated digital strategies for managers and policymakers. Full article

This paper constructs a two-way fixed effects model using data from 4623 Chinese A-share listed enterprises from 2011 to 2022, confirming that firm digital transformation can enhance access to sustainable trade credit. Specifically, for every 1% increase in the standard deviation of digital transformation, the trade credit obtained by enterprises increases by 2.14% in relation to their average value. We employed instrumental variable (IV) and propensity score matching (PSM) methods, utilizing the Broadband China pilot policy as a quasi-natural experiment to conduct a multi-period propensity score matching-difference in differences (PSM-DID) analysis to address potential issues of reverse causality and sample selection bias. Mechanism analysis indicates that the diversification of supplier structures, R&D innovation, and market share facilitated by digitalization are three main channels. This effect is particularly significant in state-owned enterprises, mature enterprises, and those with higher social trust. Finally, the study also found that the spillover effects of digital transformation encourage client enterprises to allocate credit resources to downstream firms, thereby promoting the sustainable development of supply chain finance. Furthermore, the digital transformation primarily alleviates short-term credit challenges for enterprises and reduces their reliance on bank credit. Full article

Flooding is a recurrent problem in many Brazilian cities, resulting in significant losses that affect health, assets, finance, and the environment. The uncertainty regarding extreme rainfall events due to climate change makes this challenge even more severe, compounded by inadequate urban planning and the occupation of risk areas, particularly for the municipality of Catu, in the state of Bahia, which also suffers from recurrent floods. Critical hotspots include the Santa Rita neighborhood and its surroundings, the main supply center, and the city center—the municipality’s commercial hub. The focus of this research is the unprecedented quantification of the socioeconomic impact of these floods on the low-income population and the region’s informal sector (street vendors). This research focused on analyzing and modeling the destructive potential of intense rainfall in the Santa Rita region (Supply Center) of Catu, Bahia, and its effects on the local economy across different recurrence intervals. A hydrological simulation software suite based on computational and geoprocessing technologies—specifically HEC-RAS 6.4, HEC-HMS 4.11, and QGIS— 3.16 was utilized. Two-dimensional (2D) modeling was applied to assess the flood-prone areas. For the socioeconomic impact assessment, a loss procedure based on linear regression was developed, which correlated the different return periods of extreme events with the potential losses. This methodology, which utilizes validated, indirect data, establishes a replicable framework adaptable to other regions facing similar socioeconomic and drainage challenges. The results revealed that the area becomes impassable during flood events, preventing commercial activities and causing significant economic losses, particularly for local market vendors. The total financial damage for the 100-year extreme event is approximately US $30,000, with the loss model achieving an R2 of 0.98. The research concludes that urgent measures are necessary to mitigate flood impacts, particularly as climate change reduces the return period of extreme events. The implementation of adequate infrastructure, informed by the presented risk modeling, and public awareness are essential for reducing vulnerability. Full article

Under the background of accelerating global transitions towards low-carbon development, digital intelligence transformation (DIT) has become a critical force that helps companies overcome green technological constraints and translate external green pressures into substantive green innovation. Taking the establishment of China’s NAIIDTZs as a quasi-natural experiment, this study investigates the impact of DIT on corporate green innovation (CGI) from an internal decision-making perspective. Based on a panel dataset of 19,440 samples from Chinese A-share listed companies during 2012–2023, our findings show that DIT significantly enhances both the quantity and quality of CGI. Mechanism analyses indicate that DIT promotes CGI’s quantity through increased R&D human capital input, while improving CGI’s quality through managerial myopia reduction. Heterogeneity analyses further reveal that the positive effects of DIT on CGI are particularly pronounced in firms operating under fierce market competition, in high industrial technological intensity, and in eastern regions. Furthermore, we find that CGI exerts a lagged effect on carbon emission reduction performance, while the effect of CGI’s quality is stronger than that of CGI’s quantity. These findings extend the dynamic capacity theory to digitalization and provide practical and policy implications for promoting CGI through digital intelligence development. Full article

This study examines how national electricity market structures condition the impact of carbon pricing on green innovation within the European Union. Using two-way fixed-effects panel models, we uncover a central paradox: although liberalized, price-signal markets exhibit the highest baseline levels of green innovation, the marginal effect of carbon pricing in these markets is weakest and often negative. This pattern points to an innovation-substitution effect, whereby market flexibility facilitates short-term compliance strategies, such as fuel switching, that crowd out investment in fundamental research and development (R&D) when carbon prices remain moderate. By identifying this mechanism, the study establishes electricity market structure as a pivotal moderating factor in the carbon pricing–innovation nexus and highlights a critical boundary condition for the Porter Hypothesis. The findings provide important insights for the design of sustainability policy mixes, demonstrating that institutional context plays a decisive role in translating economic instruments into sustained technological change. Effective climate policy therefore cannot be context-blind; instead, it must combine carbon pricing with tailored market design and direct support for long-term R&D to coherently advance the sustainability transition. This paper presents a nine-switch inverter for brushless operation of wound-field synchronous machines with excellent rotor flux regulation freedom. The manufacturing cost of permanent magnet machines is high due to the instability of rare-earth magnet prices in the global market. Moreover, conventional wound-field synchronous machines (WFSMs) have problems with their rotor brushes and slip-ring assembly, wherein the assembly starts to malfunction in the long run. Furthermore, recently, some brushless WFSM topologies have been investigated to eliminate the problems associated with rotor brushes and slip rings, but they have either a high cost due to a double-inverter, or low flux regulation freedom due to a single inverter (−id). The proposed nine-switch topology achieves a low cost by using a single inverter with nine switches and excellent flux control through three variables (−id, iq, and if), making it highly suitable for wide-speed applications. In the proposed topology, the machine’s armature winding is divided into two sets of coils: ABC and XYZ. A 12-slot and 8-pole machine stator is wound with armature winding coils ABC and XYZ, creating six terminals for injecting currents and two neutrals from each ABC and XYZ coil set. The current to the ABC and XYZ coils is supplied by a nine-switch inverter. The inverter is specially designed to supply rated currents to the ABC winding coils and half of the rated current to the XYZ winding coils. The number of turns of the ABC and XYZ winding coils are kept the same so they produce the same winding function. However, the current in the XYZ winding coils is half compared to that of the ABC winding coils, which creates an asymmetrical airgap magnetomotive force (MMF). The asymmetrical airgap MMF contains two working harmonics, i.e., fundamental MMF for torque production and an additional sub-harmonic MMF component for rotor field brushless excitation. The rotor field is controlled by the difference in current of the two armature winding coils: ABC and XYZ. The proposed topology is validated through theoretical analysis and finite element simulations of electromagnetic and flux regulation. A 2D finite-element analysis is performed to verify the idea. The proposed topology is capable of establishing a 9.15 A dc current in the rotor field winding coil, which consequently generates a torque of 7.8 N·m with a 20.30% torque ripple. Rotor field flux regulation was analyzed from the stator ABC and XYZ coils current ratio ζ. The ratio ζ is analyzed as 2 to 1.3; subsequently, the inducted field currents were 9.15 A dc to 4.8 A dc, respectively. Full article

Rapid urbanization in China has driven annual food waste production to 130 million tons, posing severe environmental challenges for anaerobic digestate management. To resolve trade-offs among drying efficiency, resource recovery (fertilizer/fuel), and carbon neutrality by optimizing the biodried product (BDP) recycling ratio (0–15%), six BDP treatments were tested in 60 L bioreactors. Metrics included drying kinetics, product properties, and environmental–economic trade-offs. The results showed that 12% BDP achieved a peak temperature integral (514.13 °C·d), an optimal biodrying index (3.67), and shortened the cycle to 12 days. Furthermore, 12% BDP yielded total nutrients (N + P2O5 + K2O) of 4.19%, meeting the NY 525-2021 standard in China, while ≤3% BDP maximized fuel suitability with LHV > 5000 kJ·kg−1, compliant with CEN/TC 343 RDF standards. BDP recycling reduced global warming potential by 27.3% and eliminated leachate generation, mitigating groundwater contamination risks. The RDF pathway (12% BDP) achieved the highest NPV (USD 716,725), whereas organic fertilizer required farmland subsidies (28.57/ton) to offset its low market value. A 12% BDP recycling ratio optimally balances technical feasibility, environmental safety, and economic returns, offering a closed-loop solution for global food waste valorization. Full article

The discovery and development of new drugs is a lengthy, complex, and costly process, often requiring 10–20 years to progress from initial concept to market approval, with clinical trials representing the most resource-intensive stage. In recent years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative technology capable of reshaping the entire pharmaceutical research and development (R&D) pipeline. The purpose of this narrative review is to examine the role of AI in drug discovery and development, highlighting its contributions, challenges, and future implications for pharmaceutical sciences and global public health. A comprehensive review of the scientific literature was conducted, focusing on published studies, reviews, and reports addressing the application of AI across the stages of drug discovery, preclinical development, clinical trials, and post-marketing surveillance. Key themes were identified, including AI-driven target identification, molecular screening, de novo drug design, predictive toxicity modelling, and clinical monitoring. The reviewed evidence indicates that AI has significantly accelerated drug discovery and development by reducing timeframes, costs, and failure rates. AI-based approaches have enhanced the efficiency of target identification, optimized lead compound selection, improved safety predictions, and supported adaptive clinical trial designs. Collectively, these advances position AI as a catalyst for innovation, particularly in promoting accessible, efficient, and sustainable healthcare solutions. However, substantial challenges remain, including reliance on high-quality and representative biomedical data, limited algorithmic transparency, high implementation costs, regulatory uncertainty, and ethical and legal concerns related to data privacy, bias, and equitable access. In conclusion, AI represents a paradigm shift in pharmaceutical research and drug development, offering unprecedented opportunities to improve efficiency and innovation. Addressing its technical, ethical, and regulatory limitations will be essential to fully realize its potential as a sustainable and globally impactful tool for therapeutic innovation. Full article

The entrepreneurial ecosystem theory posits that regional development emerges from synergistic interactions among entrepreneurs, institutions, and markets. This study positions entrepreneurial vitality as the core catalyst synchronizing digital inclusive finance (DIF) with rural revitalization—two systems often advancing in isolation, leading to unbalanced rural development. Using a coupling coordination degree model and provincial panel data from China (2011–2020), we demonstrate that entrepreneurial vitality significantly strengthens DIF–rural revitalization coupling coordination, following a nonlinear threshold pattern. Coordination gains accelerate only after vitality passes empirically identified critical levels, explaining persistent regional disparities in coupling coordination. Furthermore, the vitality–coordination link is moderated by technological infrastructure, organizational electronic commerce (e-commerce) engagement, and regional economic development, as outlined by the Technology–Organization–Environment framework. Framing DIF as an e-commerce-related ICT input, this paper advances the entrepreneurial ecosystem, e-commerce, and ICT-for-development (ICT4D) literature by revealing the threshold-driven nature of resource coordination in rural contexts. The findings offer a contextualized framework for catalyzing balanced and inclusive rural development in emerging economies. Full article

Peptide-based biomaterials have emerged as versatile tools for pharmaceutical drug delivery due to their biocompatibility and tunable sequences, yet a comprehensive overview of their categories, mechanisms, and optimization strategies remains lacking to guide clinical translation. This review systematically collates advances in peptide-based biomaterials, covering peptide excipients (cell penetrating peptides, tight junction modulating peptides, and peptide surfactants/stabilizers), self-assembling peptides (peptide-based nanospheres, cyclic peptide nanotubes, nanovesicles and micelles, peptide-based hydrogels and depots), and peptide linkers (for antibody drug-conjugates, peptide drug-conjugates, and prodrugs). We also dissect sequence-based optimization strategies, including rational design and biophysical optimization (cyclization, stapling, D-amino acid incorporation), functional motif integration, and combinatorial discovery with AI assistance, with examples spanning marketed drugs and research-stage candidates. The review reveals that cell-penetrating peptides enable efficient intracellular payload delivery via direct penetration or endocytosis; self-assembling peptides form diverse nanostructures for controlled release; and peptide linkers achieve site-specific drug release by responding to tumor-associated enzymes or pH cues, while sequence optimization enhances stability and targeting. Peptide-based biomaterials offer precise, biocompatible and tunable solutions for drug delivery, future advancements relying on AI-driven design and multi-functional modification will accelerate their transition from basic research to clinical application. The food supplement market has expanded rapidly in recent years, driven by demand for health, wellness, and healthy ageing; yet, the integrity of associated Health Claims (HC) remains uncertain. In the European Union (EU), food supplements are regulated under Directive 2002/46/EC, while HC use is governed by Regulation (EC) No. 1924/2006 (NHCR), which requires scientific substantiation evaluated by the European Food Safety Authority and subsequent authorisation by the European Commission/Member States. Despite this framework, concerns persist regarding unauthorised or non-compliant HC. This study examined the prevalence and compliance of HC on food supplement labels in the Republic of Ireland, comparing products sold in-store and online. A total of 192 food supplements were randomly selected across multiple categories, with HC compliance assessed against the EU Register of Nutrition and Health Claims and mandatory labelling requirements. In total, 2604 HC were identified, with multivitamins and botanicals as the most common categories reviewed. Although most HC referred to vitamins D and C and focused on immune function, only 80.7% of in-store claims and 75.6% of online claims were authorised, and only around one-third used the prescribed wording. Compliance was notably lower for botanicals, reflecting regulatory ambiguities around their use. These findings highlight persistent challenges in enforcing the NHCR, particularly for online sales and botanicals, and underscore the need for greater regulatory clarity and consumer protection. Methods: A quantitative, cross-sectional survey was conducted in Class C and D hospitals across Indonesia. Respondents included hospital directors, deputy directors, and IT heads. Data were collected through structured questionnaires measuring environmental dynamism and digital capability using a six-point Likert scale. Reliability testing yielded Cronbach’s alpha values above 0.96 for both constructs. Correlation analysis was performed to examine the relationship between environmental dynamism and digital capability. Results: Findings reveal a weak positive correlation (r = 0.1816) between environmental dynamism and digital capability. Although external factors such as policy regulations and technological competition encourage digital adoption, hospitals with limited internal resources struggle to translate these pressures into sustainable transformation. Key challenges include low ICT budgets, inconsistent staff training, and insufficient infrastructure. Conclusions: The results suggest that environmental change alone cannot drive digital readiness without internal capacity development. To foster resilient digital healthcare ecosystems, policy interventions should integrate regulatory frameworks with practical support programs that strengthen resources, leadership, and human capital in lower-middle-class hospitals. A global interest in the cultivation of Kalibaus (Labeo calbasu) has emerged due to decreasing natural stocks and a consistent rise in market value and demand. Given these concerns, understanding the species’ physiological responses to environmental changes is crucial. The present research aimed to assess the effect of varying environmental temperatures on metabolism, haemato-biochemical indices, hormonal concentrations and immune responses in L. calbasu. This study was conducted in triplicate using 100 L glass aquariums at four different temperatures: 22, 26, 30, and 34 °C. The highest weight and length gain were observed at 30 °C, while the lowest occurred at 22 °C. Notably, the best feed conversion ratio (FCR) of 1.51 ± 0.03 was also recorded at 30 °C. Although haematological and biochemical parameters remained within normal ranges, they varied with temperature changes. Indicators of cold and heat stress were evident through lower hematocrit levels and higher white blood cell (WBC) counts. Biochemical indicators such as serum albumin (1.84 ± 0.05 g dL−1), serum globulin (1.64 ± 0.06 gdL−1), HCO3 (30.93 ± 0.62), Na+ (115.60 ± 3.72 mmolL−1), alkaline phosphatase (93.33 ± 9.39 AP, IUL−1), and AST/SGOT (21.00 ± 4.55 UL−1) were significantly higher at 30 °C. Regarding hormonal responses, peak levels of growth hormone (GH), triiodothyronine (T3) (1.44 ± 0.07 ngmL−1), and thyroxine (T4) were recorded at 30 °C. Meanwhile, serum cortisol (1.62 ± 0.06 µgdL−1) and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) (18.01 ± 3.26 pgmL−1) were highest at 34 °C. Immune responses were strongest between 26 and 30 °C. In conclusion, the results suggest that L. calbasu should ideally be cultured between 26 and 30 °C for optimum growth and health, making it ideal for commercial farming. Full article

Against the backdrop of China’s economic transformation and the transition towards sustainable industrial systems, optimizing ownership structures to enhance the resilience and bargaining power of manufacturing suppliers has become crucial for building sustainable supply chains. This study empirically examines the impact of ownership concentration on supplier bargaining power using data from manufacturing companies listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share markets from 2008 to 2022, integrating insights from principal-agent theory and industrial dynamics within a sustainability-oriented framework. The findings reveal: (1) Ownership concentration significantly strengthens the bargaining power of supplier enterprises, contributing to more stable and equitable supply chain relationships. (2) R&D investment plays a partial mediating role between ownership concentration and supplier bargaining power, suggesting that innovation efforts—often aligned with green and sustainable technologies—can reshape dependency dynamics. (3) Industry competitiveness negatively moderates the relationship between ownership concentration and supplier bargaining power, indicating that intense competition may undermine the governance advantages of concentrated ownership in sustainable value creation. (4) Heterogeneity analysis shows that the positive effect of ownership concentration is more pronounced in central and western regions, state-owned enterprises, and large firms, highlighting contextual factors in achieving sustainable supply chain governance. As global sustainable development progresses and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) gain increasing prominence, pharmaceutical manufacturing firms face mounting challenges in implementing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices; these include high environmental compliance costs, limited drug accessibility, and governance inefficiencies. Patient capital, characterized by long investment horizons and high tolerance for risk, is well aligned with the long-term nature of ESG-oriented activities in this industry. Using a sample of pharmaceutical manufacturing companies listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share markets from 2015 to 2024, this study systematically examines the impact of patient capital on corporate ESG performance and explores the underlying mechanisms. The empirical results show that patient capital significantly improves ESG performance among pharmaceutical manufacturing firms. These findings remain robust across a series of robustness checks, including alternative variable measurements, sample adjustments, propensity score matching, instrumental variable estimation, and changes in the sample period. Further analysis reveals that patient capital enhances ESG performance through two primary channels: alleviating financing constraints and increasing R&D investment intensity. By focusing on the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry, this study extends the literature on patient capital to a highly regulated and socially sensitive sector, providing empirical evidence on how long-term, value-oriented capital can support sustainable development and improve ESG performance in industries with strong public welfare attributes.
