The development of carbon sequestration projects in plantation forests has the potential to offer win–win outcomes for the environment and economy. The Climate, Community, and Biodiversity (CCB) Standards ensure that a particular forest project will deliver tangible climate, community, and biodiversity benefits. According to the CCB Standards, it is necessary to assess community diversity in plantation forests. Our study provides indicators of community diversity based on Forest Integrity Assessment (FIA) according to the CCB Standards for carbon sequestration projects in Tianshui City, Gansu Province, China, which is located in the western Qinba Mountains. Herein, we estimated plantation forest conditions based on a forest condition assessment. Linear regression models were used to explore the relationships between FIA scores and community diversity (such as species richness, Shannon–Wiener index, inverse Simpson’s index, and Pielou’s evenness index quantified by species abundance) in plantation forests managed under carbon sequestration projects. The high community diversity reaches the CCB Standards. FIA scores were closely associated with Pielou’s evenness index of plant communities in plantation forests managed under carbon sequestration projects (R2 = 0.104; mean square error = 0.014; standard error = 0.104; p = 0.012). A complex topography had positive effects on species richness, while a rich standing condition had negative effects on the Shannon–Wiener index. Forest conditions have been used as indicators of community diversity in plantation forests managed under carbon sequestration projects. The occurrence of climber and animal species should be used as indicators for enhancing community diversity to meet the CCB Standards. Furthermore, plant species richness benefits from a complex topography. However, our study had the limitation that the FIA could not cover the full range of environmental conditions. Our study provides a practical reference for applying the CCB Standards to plantation forests managed under carbon sequestration projects. Full article

Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S. cerevisiae) and Kluyveromyces marxianus (K. marxianus) are often used as fermenters in yogurt and alcohol, and have been less studied within meat products. The yeasts were added to sauce meat, and the uninoculated group served as a control in this study to examine and compare the changing patterns of physicochemical and flavor characteristics of S. cerevisiae and K. marxianus on sauce meat during storage. The changes in moisture content, aw, pH, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), and other flavor characteristics were measured in sauce meat during the first, second, fourth, and sixth months after production. The following factors were examined: moisture content, aw, pH, TBARS, peroxide value (POV), acid value (AV), soluble protein (SP), free amino acid (FAA), and volatile flavoring compounds. With VIP > 1 and p < 0.05 as the screening conditions, the partial least squares model (PLS-DA) was used to assess the distinctive flavor components in the sausages. The findings demonstrated that the three groups’ changes in sauce meat were comparable during the first two months of storage but differed significantly between the 4th and 6th months. The moisture content, water activity, and pH of the sauce meat decreased gradually with the storage time; TBARS, AV, and FAA increased significantly; SP decreased significantly from 2.61 to 1.72, while POV increased to 0.03 and then decreased to 0.02. The POV and TBARS values of the yeast-infected meat were substantially lower than those of the control group, and the POV and TBARS values of the meat inoculated with S. cerevisiae were particularly decreased (p < 0.05). The POV and TBARS values of SC (S. cerevisiae group) decreased by 49.09% and 40.15%, respectively, compared to CK (the control group) at the time of storage until June. The experimental group (KM: K. marxianus group) significantly increased the SP and FAA values of the sauce meat (p < 0.05) by 32.4% and 29.84% compared to the CK group, respectively. Esters and olefins as well as alcohols and esters were much greater in meat that had been supplemented with S. cerevisiae and K. marxianus than in meat from the control group. In conclusion, inoculating sauce meat with S. cerevisiae can significantly enhance the quality and flavor of sauce meat while it is being stored. Full article

People living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLWH) are a vulnerable population with a higher risk of severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19); therefore, vaccination is recommended as a priority. Data on viral reservoirs and immunologic outcomes for PLWH breakthrough infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are currently limited. In this study, we investigated the effects of SARS-CoV-2 breakthrough infection on hematological parameters, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) reservoir size, and T-cell recovery in PLWH receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART) after SARS-CoV-2 booster vaccination. The results indicated that during breakthrough infection, booster vaccination with homologous and heterologous vaccines was safe in PLWH after receiving two doses of inactivated vaccination. The absolute CD4 counts decreased in the heterologous group, whereas the CD8 counts decreased in the homologous booster group after breakthrough infection in PLWH. Breakthrough infection increased HIV reservoirs and was associated with increased T-cell activation in PLWH who received virally suppressed ART and a 3-dose vaccination. According to our data, the breakthrough infection of SARS-CoV-2 may put PLWH at a greater risk for increased HIV reservoirs, even if these individuals were virally suppressed with ART after 3-dose SARS-CoV-2 vaccination. To explore the influence of circumferential grooved casing treatment on subsonic cascade performance, a numerical simulation of subsonic cascade was conducted. In contrast to traditional research on variable single parameters for casing treatment, this paper used the Latin hypercube sampling method to randomly sample multiple geometric parameters of casing treatment and compared many sample data with the total pressure loss of the cascade as a measurement standard. After selecting several typical cases of high and low total pressure loss cases for in-depth flow field analysis, it was found that casing treatment affects the strength and structure of the leakage vortex, thereby reducing the blockage of fluid in the passage of the cascade. Changes in the total pressure loss and in the margin of the cascade meant that casing treatment affected cascade performance. This prompted analysis of the correlation between the casing treatment parameters and total pressure loss of the cascade. The clearance height and groove depth had the greatest influence on the total pressure loss of the cascade. Full article

Due to the existence of a tunnel next to the foundation pit, the soil surrounding the foundation pit deforms into the foundation pit due to the excavation unloading during the process of foundation pit excavation, which causes the deformation of the tunnel. The supporting structure of the tunnel can ensure the deformation stability of the tunnel, so it is necessary to study the stress of the tunnel bolt supporting structure caused by the excavation of the foundation pit. In this paper, the numerical simulation method was adopted to study the influence of the distance between the foundation pit and tunnel and the width and depth of foundation pit excavation on the stress of the tunnel bolt, and the following results were obtained: (1) When the distance between the tunnel and the foundation pit changes, the axial force of the bolt changes accordingly. The axial force of the left bolt first increases and then decreases, and the largest axial force is located in the middle of the bolt. (2) With the increase in the excavation width of the foundation pit, the stress of the left bolt does not change much. For the left bolt, with the increase in excavation depth, the stress of the left bolt does not increase monotonically but shows a trend of increasing first and then decreasing. When the excavation depth exceeds a certain value, the influence of excavation depth on lateral soil displacement gradually decreases. With the increase in excavation depth, the axial force of the top bolt decreases first and then increases. Full article

Sending-or-not sending twin-field quantum key distribution (SNS TF-QKD) has the advantage of tolerating large amounts of misalignment errors, and its key rate can exceed the linear bound of repeaterless quantum key distribution. However, the weak randomness in a practical QKD system may lower the secret key rate and limit its achievable communication distance, thus compromising its performance. In this paper, we analyze the effects of the weak randomness on the SNS TF-QKD. The numerical simulation shows that SNS TF-QKD can still have an excellent performance under the weak random condition: the secret key rate can exceed the PLOB boundary and achieve long transmission distances. Furthermore, our simulation results also show that SNS TF-QKD is more robust to the weak randomness loopholes than the BB84 protocol and the measurement-device-independent QKD (MDI-QKD). Our results emphasize that keeping the randomness of the states is significant to the protection of state preparation devices. Full article

Multilevel resistive switching in memristive devices is vital for applications in non-volatile memory and neuromorphic computing. In this study, we report on the multilevel resistive switching characteristics in SnSe/SrTiO3(STO) heterojunction-based memory devices with silver (Ag) and copper (Cu) top electrodes. The SnSe/STO-based memory devices present bipolar resistive switching (RS) with two orders of magnitude on/off ratio, which is reliable and stable. Moreover, multilevel state switching is achieved in the devices by sweeping voltage with current compliance to SET the device from high resistance state (HRS) to low resistance state (LRS) and RESET from LRS to HRS by voltage pulses without compliance current. With Ag and Cu top electrodes, respectively, eight and six levels of resistance switching were demonstrated in the SnSe/SrTiO3 heterostructures with a Pt bottom electrode. These results suggest that a SnSe/STO heterojunction-based memristor is promising for applications in neuromorphic computing as a synaptic device. Full article

The ideal quantum key distribution (QKD) protocol requires perfect random numbers for bit encoding and basis selecting. Perfect randomness is of great significance to the practical QKD system. However, due to the imperfection of practical quantum devices, an eavesdropper (Eve) may acquire some random numbers, thus affecting the security of practical systems. In this paper, we analyze the effects of the weak randomness in the measurement-device-independent QKD (MDI-QKD) with finite resources. We analytically derive concise formulas for estimating the lower bound of the single-photon yield and the upper bound of the phase error rate in the case of the weak randomness. The simulation demonstrates that the final secret key rate of MDI-QKD with finite resources is sensitive to state preparation, even with a small proportion of weak randomness, the secure key rate has a noticeable fluctuation. Therefore, the weak randomness of the state preparation may bring additional security risks. In order to ensure the practical security of the QKD system, we are supposed to strengthen the protection of state preparation devices. Full article

The evolutionary and demographic history of African swine fever virus (ASFV) is potentially quite valuable for developing efficient and sustainable management strategies. In this study, we performed phylogenetic, phylodynamic, and phylogeographic analyses of worldwide ASFV based on complete ASFV genomes, B646L gene, and E183L gene sequences obtained from NCBI to understand the epidemiology of ASFV. Bayesian phylodynamic analysis and phylogenetic analysis showed highly similar results of group clustering between E183L and the complete genome. The evidence of migration and the demographic history of ASFV were also revealed by the Bayesian phylodynamic analysis. The evolutionary rate was estimated to be 1.14 × 10−5 substitution/site/year. The large out-migration from the viral population in South Africa played a crucial role in spreading the virus worldwide. Our study not only provides resources for the better utilization of genomic data but also reveals the comprehensive worldwide evolutionary history of ASFV with a broad sampling window across ~70 years. The characteristics of the virus spatiotemporal transmission are also elucidated, which could be of great importance for devising strategies to control the virus. Full article

As the acquisition, transmission, storage and conversion of images become more efficient, image data are increasing explosively. At the same time, the limitations of conventional computational processing systems based on the Von Neumann architecture continue to emerge, and thus, improving the efficiency of image processing has become a key issue that has bothered scholars working on images for a long time. Memristors with non-volatile, synapse-like, as well as integrated storage-and-computation properties can be used to build intelligent processing systems that are closer to the structure and function of biological brains. They are also of great significance when constructing new intelligent image processing systems with non-Von Neumann architecture and for achieving the integrated storage and computation of image data. Based on this, this paper analyses the mathematical models of memristors and discusses their applications in conventional image processing based on memristive systems as well as image processing based on memristive neural networks, to investigate the potential of memristive systems in image processing. In addition, recent advances and implications of memristive system-based image processing are presented comprehensively, and its development opportunities and challenges in different major areas are explored as well. By establishing a complete spectrum of image processing technologies based on memristive systems, this review attempts to provide a reference for future studies in the field, and it is hoped that scholars can promote its development through interdisciplinary academic exchanges and cooperation. Vasculogenic mimicry (VM) formed by tumor cells plays a vital role in the progress of tumor, because it provides nutrition for tumor cells and takes away the metabolites. Therefore, the inhibition of VM is crucial to the clinical treatment of tumors. In this study, we investigated the anti-tumor effect of a novel peptide, KVEPQDPSEW (AATP), isolated from abalone (Haliotis discus hannai) on HT1080 cells by migration, invasion analysis and the mode of action. The results showed that AATP effectively inhibited MMPs by blocking MAPKs and NF-κB pathways, leading to the downregulation of metastasis of tumor cells. Moreover, AATP significantly inhibited VM and pro-angiogenic factors, including VEGF and MMPs by suppression of AKT/mTOR signaling. In addition, molecular docking was used to study the interaction of AATP and HIF-1α, and the results showed that AATP was combined with an active site of HIF-1α by a hydrogen bond. The effect of AATP on anti-metastatic and anti-vascular in HT1080 cells revealed that AATP may be a potential lead compound for treatment of tumors in the future. Full article

In frequency-sweep polarization-modulation ranging, distance is determined by the frequency of modulated waves and the corresponding wavelength multiple when emitted and returned waves are in phase. However, measurement of the frequency and the wavelength multiple is affected by thermally induced phase delay of the polarized wave. In this article we systematically discuss the principle of the ranging method and analyze the influences of thermally induced phase delay. New approaches to measurement are proposed to eliminate the impact on frequency and the wavelength multiple. Theoretical analysis and experimental results proved the efficiency and applicability of the methods. Full article

Abstract
Cajanolactone A (CLA) is a stilbenoid discovered by us from Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp. Cajanolactone A (CLA) is a stilbenoid discovered by us from Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp. In our study, CLA was found to promote osteoblast differentiation in human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs), as judged by increased cellular alkaline phosphatase activity and extracellular calcium deposits, and elevated protein expression of Runx2, collagen-1, bone morphogenetic protein-2, and osteopontin. Mechanistic studies revealed that hBMSCs undergoing osteoblast differentiation expressed upregulated mRNA levels of Wnt3a, Wnt10b, LRP5/6, Frizzled 4, β-catenin, Runx2, and Osterix from the early stage of differentiation, indicating the role of activated Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway in osteoblast differentiation. Addition of CLA to the differentiation medium further increased the mRNA level of Wnt3a, Wnt10b, Frizzled 4, LRP5, and β-catenin, inferring that CLA worked by stimulating Wnt/LRP5/β-catenin signaling. Wnt inhibitor dickkopf-1 antagonized CLA-promoted osteoblastogenesis, indicating that CLA did not target the downstream of canonical Wnt signaling pathway. Treatment with CLA caused no changes in mRNA expression level, as well as protein secretion of osteoprotegerin (OPG) and receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand (RANKL), indicating that CLA did not affect the OPG/RANKL axis. Our results showed that CLA, which promoted osteoblast differentiation in hBMSCs, through activating Wnt/LRP5/β-catenin signaling transduction, is a promising anti-osteoporotic drug candidate. Antiproliferative Phenothiazine Hybrids as Novel Apoptosis Inducers against MCF-7 Breast Cancer

We designed a series of novel phenothiazine-1,2,3-triazole hybrids by the molecular hybridization strategy and evaluated their antiproliferative activity against three cancer cell lines (MDA-MB-231, MDA-MB-468 and MCF-7). For the structure-activity relationships, the importance of 1,2,3-triazole and substituents on phenyl ring was explored. Among these phenothiazine-1,2,3-triazole hybrids, compound 9f showed the most potent inhibitory effect against MCF-7 cells, with an IC50 value of 0.8 μM. Importantly, compound 9f could induce apoptosis against MCF-7 cells by regulating apoptosis-related proteins (Bcl-2, Bax, Bad, Parp, and DR5). These potent phenothiazine-1,2,3-triazole hybrids as novel apoptosis inducers might be used as antitumor agents in the future. Full article
