Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Around the world, forests assume a vital importance in the regulation of the water cycle and in the allocation of the water balance. Knowledge of forests’ ecohydrological response is essential to support management strategies, especially in regions that already register water scarcity.
Shifts in climatological patterns are expected to impact water cycle components and, consequently, hydrological responses, soil erosion, thermopluviometric regimes, and plant physiology. Historical and future changes on climate produce relative shifts in climate variables, as well as on CO2 concentrations, which ultimately impact the water balance, streamflow, and surface water quality. These changes alter the amount of precipitation and soil water storage, the evapotranspiration rates, and crop productivity and land management operations, through modifications in socio-economic conditions.
Ecohydrological models are valuable tools for simulating hydrological processes at catchment scale, as well as for predicting the effects of climate changes on water resources, thus making them useful in the decision support process.
For this Water Special Issue, studies that focus on ecoehydrological modelling for historical and future climate conditions and the links with adaptive managemen strategies are welcome. Modelling approaches that focus forest-dominated cathmnets are especially welcomed.
The topics may include:
- Forest ecohydrological modelling;
- Forest hydrological responses;
- SWAT model;
- Gauged and ungauded catchments;
- Positive and negative impacts of climate change;
- Climate change adaptation;
- Adaptive management strategies.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Water is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
