Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Access to potable water is threatened by economic challenges and the world’s population growth, as well as faster climate change on the Earth. Poor-quality drinking water as well as possible scarcity of freshwater might be mitigated by reusing water sources. Hence, new scientific and technological approaches are urgently needed for water treatment and reuse as an encouraging contribution to the development of a circular economy. Advanced oxidation processes have been investigated in many environmental applications, especially water treatment, but their application at a full scale is still lacking. This Special Issue aims to contribute to the advancement of the knowledge on environmental applications of integrated catalytic oxidation processes, as well as to the understanding of the main challenges hindering their application and scalability. The topics that will be rather covered by this Special Issue include, but are not limited to: (i) water/wastewater treatment; (ii) water desalination (iii) water/wastewater disinfection; (iv) biological treatment;( v) water reuse; (vi) reactor design and scale-up of integrated catalytic processes; (vii) solar-driven oxidation processes; viii) photo-, electro- and photoelectrocatalytic technologies, and ix) novel energy and environmental challenges and their economical study. This Special Issue will preferably include research papers, but review papers may be submitted. Review paper proposals are expected to present sound critical overviews of the state-of-the-art topics that can help the reader to recognize the most relevant results of the research, possible applications of the processes at full scale as well as the main economic and environmental challenges to address.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Water is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
