28 August–2 September 2023, Athens, Greece
18th International Conference on Environmental Science and Technology | CEST2023

The Global Network on Environmental Science and Technology (Global NEST), in concert with the University of the Aegean (Greece) and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece), is organizing the 18th International Conference on Environmental Science and Technology—CEST2023 from 28 August to 2 September 2023 in Athens (Greece). The conference is supported on a scientific level by the University of Salerno (Italy), the Open University of Cyprus (Cyprus) and the University of Cincinnati (USA). The event is held under the auspices of the Region of Attica and the Municipality of Athens with the support of the World Water Assessment Programme of UNESCO, the International Water Association (IWA) and AC Laskarides Charitable Foundation.

CEST is the largest scientific event in the environmental sector in Greece and has evolved into an important international scientific meeting, taking place every two years since 1989. It is a leading environmental conference where top experts, scientists, entrepreneurs, representatives of public administration and social initiatives present state-of-the-art research on current and emerging environmental issues. CEST is thus a platform where academia and business converge and where academic research, innovative ideas and solutions serve as the basis for a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment.

The previous event was held in a hybrid format in Athens (Greece) from 1 to 4 September 2021. During CEST2021, 58 sessions were organized and over 550 papers were presented. The agenda included 18 keynote speeches, among whom were Prof. Damia Barcelo (Catalan Institute for Water Research, Spain), Prof Susan Richardson (University of South Carolina, USA), Prof. Nikos Mihalopoulos (National Observatory of Athens, Greece) and Dr Manfred Rosenstock (DG Environment).

The announcement of CEST2023 comes at a time of transition from linear economic models to a circular economy and bioeconomy worldwide. Bioeconomy is considered a game changer for climate action, emerging as a concept at the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27). On the other hand, the business sector is developing and applying corporate social responsibility programmes and actions based on the triple-helix ESG (environment, social, governance), aiming to promoting to the public their social role and environmental care, while working to protect humanity and earth while increasing economic profit.

These topics, as well as emerging research fields of the environmental sector, will form the basis for scheduling sessions and side events. The keynote speeches can be found at https://cest.gnest.org/invited and will be updated.

CESΤ2023 (https://cest.gnest.org/), is expected to attract more than 500 delegates and is focused on the most innovative approaches in environmental science and technology. Potential topics which can be divided into the following 12 thematic areas:
