Dear Colleagues,
The environmental conditions of our planet are attracting more and more attention and public opinions. Changes in the climate and pollution exposure are causing particularly concerning consequences on human and animal health. Further, it is well known that global warming and environmental pollutants, e.g., plastic derivatives such as endocrine disruptor chemicals, in addition to acting as predisposing factors for certain types of disfunctions and tumors, also negatively affect reproductive processes. In fact, the environment can interfere with the development of sperm, oocytes, fetuses and placenta, resulting in reduced pregnancy rates, subfertility and cryptorchidism. Despite its relevance, to date, few studies in animals have focused on this topic. To fill this gap, this Special Issue aims to gather scientific evidence on the impact of the environment on the reproductive parameters of domestic animals (both those of zootechnical interest or pets), allowing for a better understanding of the risks related to environmental exposure on fertility. An increasing awareness of potential environmental hazards could contribute to the implementation of strategies to mitigate their effects on animals, which in turn could assist in the creation of a study model for humans.
