Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The Special Issue “Advancing Molecular Epidemiology and Genome Surveillance in Africa” aims to spotlight groundbreaking research exploring the intersection of molecular epidemiology, genome surveillance, and public health in the African context. Africa, with its diverse population genetics and unique epidemiological challenges, presents a rich landscape for understanding infectious diseases and driving advancements in disease control strategies.
This Special Issue seeks to bridge the gap between cutting-edge molecular techniques and their application in enhancing disease surveillance in Africa. By harnessing the power of pathogen genomics and other data types, researchers can unravel the intricate dynamics of infectious disease transmission, track the origin and spread of pathogens, assess antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and identify emerging threats with unprecedented precision. Moreover, this Special Issue underscores the pivotal role of molecular epidemiology and genomic surveillance in shaping evidence-based interventions and policies to combat emerging and endemic diseases on the African continent.
We invite contributions that delve into various aspects of molecular epidemiology and genome surveillance, including but not limited to pathogen detection, genomic surveillance, AMR, disease outbreaks, new and improved methods for genomic surveillance, bioinformatics, feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and proof of concept studies on the utility of genomics for public health interventions. Furthermore, we encourage submissions that highlight innovative methodologies, interdisciplinary collaborations, and successful case studies showcasing the combination of data types and the translation of research findings into actionable strategies for disease control and prevention in African populations.
Through this Special Issue, we aim to foster a collaborative environment that brings together researchers, emerging scientists, bold initiatives, policymakers, and public health practitioners to share insights, catalyze discussions, and drive impactful research agendas aimed at safeguarding the health and well-being of communities across Africa. Join us in advancing the frontier of molecular epidemiology and genome surveillance to mitigate the burden of infectious diseases and promote health equity on the African continent.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Tropical Medicine and Infectious Disease is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
