Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue will focus on the state of play in the global fight against leprosy.  This issue will serve as an accessible resource for health or social workers and researchers already engaged in the leprosy field who want to stay up to date on developments across the range of disciplines involved in leprosy elimination.  We also aim to provide an introduction to leprosy elimination for those entering or thinking of entering this area of work. We envisage that the Special Issue would comprise 12–15 papers, which will include chapters dealing with: leprosy as an ancient disease that stubbornly persists in the 21st century; the evidence underlying our belief that leprosy can be eliminated; the global strategy for leprosy elimination; the importance of partnerships in implementing leprosy elimination programmes; an update on progress and achievements to date and an assessment of further steps; the challenges facing the strategy or its implementation (with a specific section of the paper focused on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on activities); the research agenda and priorities for leprosy elimination; country experiences of leprosy elimination ( two–three papers); and research (three–four papers dealing with research identified as priority subjects in research agenda paper above).
