Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We plan to publish a Special Issue describing the state of play in the global fight to eliminate lymphatic filariasis (LF). Our goal is for this issue to serve as an accessible resource for health or social workers and researchers already engaged in the LF field who want to update themselves on developments across the range of disciplines involved in elimination. We also hope that the issue will serve as an introduction to LF elimination for those entering or thinking of entering this area of work and are hoping to publish 12–15 papers. These would include chapters dealing with LF as an ancient disease that stubbornly persists in the 21st century; transmission of LF; the evidence underlying our belief that LF can be eliminated; the global strategy for LF elimination; the importance of partnerships in implementing LF elimination programs; an update on progress and achievements to date and an assessment of what more is needed; what the challenges facing the strategy or its implementation are (with a specific section of the paper focused on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on activities); what the research agenda and priorities for LF elimination are; country experiences of LF elimination (2–3 papers); and research (3–4 papers) dealing with the priority subjects identified in the research agenda above.
