Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Rabies is a fatal yet entirely preventable zoonotic viral disease that continues to threaten human and animal health across the globe. It exemplifies a complex One Health challenge, with its persistence maintained through interactions among humans, domestic dogs (the primary reservoir in most settings), and wildlife in shared environments. Despite effective human vaccines, post-exposure prophylaxis, and proven interventions such as mass dog vaccination, rabies still causes tens of thousands of preventable deaths each year, especially in regions with limited resources. Achieving the global goal of zero human deaths from dog-mediated rabies by 2030 (“zero by 30”) will require sustained, coordinated efforts and innovation in both surveillance and control strategies.
Within a One Health framework, the aim of this Special Issue, “Recent Advances in Rabies Surveillance and Control,” is to highlight cutting-edge research and lessons learned in the fight against rabies worldwide. We welcome contributions that cover all areas of rabies surveillance and control, such as field or case studies that help detect more cases, community-based surveillance, or other impactful surveillance systems that have taken noticeable progress in the control and prevention of rabies in developing countries, modeling studies that look at how the disease spreads, and evaluations of rabies control programs and interventions. We are especially interested in new methods such as advanced diagnostic tools, mass dog vaccination, oral vaccines for wild animals, and ways to make the best use of limited resources. The overall aim is to create a holistic understanding of effective rabies prevention and control by bringing together a variety of study types and experiences from different geographical regions. Ultimately, the insights gathered will inform better policies and practices and accelerate progress towards the global goal of “zero by 30” through collaborative One Health approaches. We invite researchers and practitioners across disciplines to contribute their findings to this comprehensive collection, supporting our shared goal of a world free from rabies.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Tropical Medicine and Infectious Disease is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
