Young Investigator Award

We are pleased to announce that the winner of the Symmetry 2022 Young Investigator Award is Dr. Yao Chen.
Dr. Yao Chen (Researcher Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany, Jiangsu Province 333 High-Level Talents of China, and Zhongying Young Scholar at Southeast University of China) is a Professor of the School of Civil Engineering, Southeast University, Nanjing, China. His research interests are symmetry analysis using group theory and graph products, novel prestressed structures (e.g., cable-strut, origami, and deployable structures), and computational methods for engineering structures. Dr. Yao Chen received his PhD in 2014 and has an outstanding publication record, comprising more than 50 publications in peer-reviewed international journals and 26 patents, and his Hirsch index is 24. He has been selected in Stanford University’s list of the World’s Top 2% Scientists, 2021. Dr. Yao Chen won the 10th Hangai Prize of the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures, and the Editor’s Choice Award of the ASME Journal of Mechanical Design. This is an outstanding achievement in today’s competitive environment. He is clearly a rising star in the field of symmetry and novel prestressed structures. As the awardee, Dr. Yao Chen will receive an honorarium of CHF 2000, an offer to publish a paper free of charge before the end of 2023 in Symmetry after peer-review, and an electronic certificate.
