Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The current interest in the problem of climate change and its influence not only on human activities but on the sustainability of the planet itself has implied the need to establish development strategies and practices that guarantee that cities and regions are sustainable in the long term, which has in turn given rise to a new challenge in the field of Sustainable Urban Planning. On the other hand, the process of change that occurs within and between cities is one of the main aspects considered by urban dynamics. Determining the main causes and consequences that human activity exerts on this urban dynamics is one of the main challenges of the future achievement of sustainable development.

Uncontrolled and overcrowded urban development can generate risks to environmental health, well-being, economic development, and social exclusion and discrimination. For example, the generation of noise and air pollution caused by the intensive use of transport can have negative effects on health, well-being or the price of housing. Likewise, unsustainable urban development can generate gentrification problems. Another aspect related to the development and dynamics of cities is the management of the tourism sector, which is also closely related to the aforementioned socio-economic and health problems.

Therefore, the need to pay special attention to the dynamic development of cities in order to make economic and social development more sustainable and guide governments in decision-making is justified.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

The journal Sustainability invites the presentation of articles related to sustainable urban planning, the relationship between all aspects of the urban development, gentrification, tourism territory management, real estate, sustainable and healthy building, pandemic and housing. Although the focus should mainly be on the economic and social aspects, different points of view can be taken into account.

Referring to the applied methodology, the use of econometric data analysis techniques is invited, such as panel data, cross section, time series or spatial data analysis, as well as comparative studies of different territories.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
