Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The aim of this Special Issue is to bring together the research of a select gathering of leading scholars from several disciplines working on the topic of tall buildings and their impacts. This comes at a time when tall buildings are proliferating in many cities around the world, often with strong claims regarding their benefits—yet their long-term impacts (including potential negative economic, social and environmental impacts) are often not well understood. Thus, there is an urgent need to assess the current state of research in key fields, to synthesize research findings, and to share knowledge toward additional research needed.
The goal of the issue is therefore to address current gaps in specific areas of research, to identify further research needed, and to integrate specific research topics into a more comprehensive understanding of the impacts of tall buildings, as guidance for practitioners and policymakers.
Topics of focus may include (but are not limited to) economic impacts, social impacts, legal impacts, energy and resource consumption impacts, impacts upon surrounding occupants, life safety issues, disease transmission issues, urban resiliency, and sustainability.
This Special Issue is a follow-up to a symposium that was held at the Neaman Institute, Technion, Haifa, Israel, in February 2020. Participants have been invited to submit papers for review, but other authors will be considered for review on an individual basis.
