Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

It is our pleasure to announce a new Special Issue, “Climate Change, Energy Policy, and Industry 5.0” of the journal Sustainability.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to revolutionize sustainability strategies across various industrial sectors. By leveraging AI technologies, energy systems can be optimized to minimize irreversibilities and increase productivity. AI-driven predictive studies enable smarter energy grids, allowing real-time adjustments to balance supply and demand, especially when integrating renewable energy sources such as solar and wind with energy storage technologies. Moreover, AI-powered models can assess and mitigate industrial processes' environmental impacts, identify resource conservation opportunities, and design decarbonization solutions to the ongoing global challenges instigated by climate change. New industries leveraging the applications of AI have emerged to embed innovative solutions and pertinent intelligent infrastructure in their business models. Under the current transformation into Industry 5.0, integrating AI with Internet of Things (IoT) devices will enhance the monitoring and management of energy systems, advancing technological and knowledge systems, while achieving economic and environmental sustainability objectives.

We invite original research articles and critical reviews on topics related (but not limited) to:

  • Climate Policy Making in the Energy and Industry 5.0 Nexus
  • Geopolitics, Emerging Technologies, and Sustainability
  • Sustainable Energies and Renewable Energies for Decarbonization
  • AI and IoT Roles in Energy Management and Decarbonization
  • Technological Innovation and Renewal of Business Models and Intelligent Management Systems Under Industry 5.0
  • The Emergence of New Industries under the Industry 5.0 Framework

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs).
