Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The circular economy concept is receiving growing attention as an alternative to the current linear economy “take, make, waste” concept. The circular economy conceives of a system with a minimum loss of resources in the production system through the reuse, recycling and recovery of materials and energy. Moving toward a circular food system is highly important, due to the huge greenhouse gas emissions, water and energy footprints of the food supply chain. In this regard, measuring the circularity of the food production systems is the first step in the process of moving towards a circular food production system.

Given the importance and relevance of this Special Issue, we invite researchers to contribute original research articles as well as review articles. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Measuring circularity in food supply chain
  • Life cycle assessment of food production
  • Sustainable food systems
  • Food waste valorization
  • Circular future food
