Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The ongoing global energy transition and the increasing integration of renewable energy sources have brought about transformative changes in modern electrical power systems. Modern power systems are undergoing an unprecedented transformation due to the rapid integration of renewable energy sources, advancements in smart grid technologies, and the growing demand for resilient and sustainable electricity infrastructure. As power grids evolve toward greater intelligence, flexibility, and efficiency, they are facing new challenges and opportunities in areas such as grid integration, system stability, reliability, and advanced control.
This Special Issue, “Sustainable Research on Grid Integration and Electrical Power Systems”, will provide a platform for researchers, engineers, and industry practitioners to share their latest findings, technological innovations, and practical experiences in this field. We welcome high-quality original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and case studies that address theoretical, computational, and applied aspects of electrical power systems and their integration into modern energy solutions.
We invite contributions on topics including (but not limited to) the following:
- Grid integration of renewable energy (solar, wind, hydroelectricity, and hybrid systems);
- Smart grid technologies (IoT, AI, digital twins, and automation);
- Power system stability and control (frequency/voltage regulation and fault analysis);
- Microgrids and distributed energy resources (design, operation, and economics);
- Energy storage solutions for grid balancing and reliability;
- Demand response and load management;
- Cyber–physical security in power networks;
- Policy, regulatory, and economic aspects of grid modernization;
- The modeling and simulation of large-scale power systems.
For this Special Issue, we encourage interdisciplinary contributions that bridge theory and practice and promote sustainable, efficient, and resilient grid integration and power systems for the future.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to receiving your valuable contributions to this Special Issue.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
