Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

As the global energy landscape shifts toward sustainable and efficient energy storage solutions, the role of nanomaterials in revolutionizing energy storage technologies has become increasingly critical. Advanced nanostructured materials offer significant improvements in energy density, charge/discharge rates, cycling stability, and environmental sustainability, making them key components in next-generation batteries, supercapacitors, and hybrid storage systems.

This Special Issue, "Synthesis of Nanomaterials and Their Applications in Sustainable Energy Storage System", will bring together cutting-edge research on the design, scalable synthesis, and application of nanomaterials in energy storage. We invite contributions that emphasize green and sustainable synthesis, green and sustainable fabrication processes, electrode materials, high-performance electrolytes, and recyclability strategies. Special attention will be given to harsh environmental applications, life cycle assessment, environmental impact, and circular economy principles applied to nanomaterials in energy storage.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials for energy storage;
  • Nanostructured materials for lithium-ion, sodium-ion, and potassium-ion batteries;
  • Supercapacitors and hybrid energy storage devices;
  • Green and sustainable fabrication of electrode materials;
  • Electrochemical performance, charge storage mechanisms, and stability;
  • Recyclability, life cycle assessment, and sustainability of nanomaterials;
  • Theoretical modeling and simulations of energy storage materials.

By bringing together leading experts and cutting-edge research, this Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current trends, challenges, and future opportunities in sustainable nanomaterials for energy storage. We seek contributions that will foster interdisciplinary discussions, bridge fundamental research with real-world applications, and inspire novel approaches to developing next-generation energy storage solutions with minimal environmental impact.

We invite researchers from academia, industry, and government institutions to contribute to this Special Issue and share their insights on how nanomaterials can pave the way for a cleaner and more efficient energy future.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
