Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We cordially invite you to submit original research papers, case studies, and critical reviews that explore the dynamic relationships between sustainability, production, and operations management.

The global imperative for environmental stewardship and socio-economic equity is reshaping the landscape of production and operations management (POM). This Special Issue explores contemporary advances in sustainable POM, integrating interdisciplinary approaches that align industrial performance with ecological resilience, the circular economy, and responsible governance principles. Drawing on recent developments across digital transformation, lean-agile systems, green supply chains, and life-cycle thinking, the contributions in this Special Issue critically evaluate how organisations can operationalise sustainability while maintaining competitiveness.

Contributions should underscore the need for systems thinking, stakeholder inclusivity, and innovation-driven change to address the complex sustainability challenges in the domain of production. This Special Issue aims to catalyse future research agendas that are not only responsive to planetary boundaries, but also reflective of evolving stakeholder expectations and regulatory landscapes.

This Special Issue encompasses a diverse range of studies, including empirical research, literature reviews, surveys, case studies, expert opinions, and conceptual research. The scope of these studies encompasses all dimensions of sustainable production and operations management, including, but not limited to, the topics delineated below:

  • Sustainable operations and production.
  • Sustainable operations strategies.
  • Digitalization for sustainable operations.
  • Sustainable supply chain management and logistics.
  • Circular economy and closed-loop systems in operations.
  • Sustainability performance measurement and metrics.
  • Resilient and regenerative operations.
  • Governance, policy, and regulatory alignment.
  • Sustainable services and operations in non-industrial sectors.
  • Technology-driven circularity and strategic sustainability in operations.
  • Embedding stakeholder-centric ESG strategies in sustainable operations.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
