Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Recently, with the continuous improvement of the social economy and living standards, consumers’ consumption has gradually changed from advocating rational consumption to emotional consumption. Consumers pay more attention to the emotional experience provided by products, and the demand for individualized design is more and more relevant. Product design has thus become highly complex, and no isolated approach or a single way of thinking, knowledge, or technology can play a decisive role in the design solution generation. Fashion design involves various elements, such as fabric, color, and style, which are easily influenced by trends. Fashion companies also have to manage different data with many and complex correlations and dependencies between them and uncertainties related to human factors. It is crucial for the fashion industry to master these data flows to optimize their decision-making.
In such situations, artificial intelligence and virtual reality technology are particularly efficient. The potential applications of artificial intelligence and virtual reality technology in the fashion industry cover a wide scope through sensory evaluation, fashion forecasting, fashion recommendation systems, data driven design, virtual sampling, intelligent tracking systems, textile quality control, traceability and circular supply chain, or social networks and fashion e-marketing. With the help of artificial intelligence and virtual reality technology, decision-making in the fashion industry can be realized fast and efficiently. All the processes within the fashion industry can be fully planned, without non-essential costs and pollution.
For this Special Issue of Sustainability, papers exploring the novel application of artificial intelligence and virtual reality technology in the fashion industry are welcome, especially if aiming to improve efficiency with the adoption of fashion circular economy practices. Contributions to the reduction of energy and mass resources during the entire cycle of the fashion products and in particular during the design, production, use phase and optimization of the disassembly phase with the help of artificial intelligence and virtual reality technology are also useful.
Papers selected for this Special Issue will undergo a rigorous peer-review process with the goal of rapid and broad dissemination of research findings, developments, and applications.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
