Thermal Management of New Energy Vehicles

Dear Colleagues,

In the past one hundred years, the vigorous development of automotive engineering strongly promoted the rapid development of industrial civilization and profoundly changed the road transport industry. In recent decades, the breakthroughs in key energy storage technologies, such as Li-ion batteries, have made power batteries possible. More and more vehicles with new architectures have been developed. These new vehicles, which are different from traditional IC engine vehicles, are called "New Energy vehicles".

As one of the important development directions of new energy vehicles, vehicle electrification has attracted more and more attention from researchers in related fields. However, the pursuit of a higher power density and horsepower will inevitably lead to vehicle thermal management becoming an important issue. We need to further discuss and design a better thermal management system for the battery, motor, power electronic equipment, cabin, and other components, as well as for the whole vehicle. Relevant research provides excellent solutions for the hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicle industries, effectively promoting the popularization of new energy vehicles.

In this Special Issue, "Thermal Management of New Energy Vehicles", original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Efficient control strategies of component thermal management systems;
  • Thermophysical models of key components of new energy vehicles;
  • Advanced thermal management system architecture;
  • New heat-conducting materials for new energy vehicles;
  • Optimization and improvement of current thermal management systems;
  • Research on the heating principle and characteristics of batteries;
  • Design of cabin temperature control and air-conditioning thermal management systems;
  • Simulation of component/vehicle thermal management systems;
  • Fuel cells with combined heat and power (CHP).

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
