Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

By minimizing the use of virgin resources, the circular economy serves as a crucial approach for advancing global sustainability. Furthermore, achieving net-zero emissions fundamentally depends on implementing circular economy principles. However, current tools for assessing circular economy and sustainability at both corporate and national levels remain insufficiently developed for effective policy-making. In contrast, initiatives aimed at preventing greenwashing—such as the EU Taxonomy and Digital Product Passport systems—have gained substantial acceptance across multiple regions.

Amid the rapidly evolving global environmental landscape, this Special Issue focuses on the latest advancements in sustainability assessment methodologies and their applications within the circular economy. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Reviews of waste reduction and utilization policies in various countries and regions;
  2. Updated management frameworks supporting the circular economy;
  3. Quantitative analyses linking circular economy practices to net-zero emissions targets;
  4. Emerging directions and future requirements for management tools aligned with ESG trends;
  5. Green finance mechanisms and assessment frameworks promoting sustainability and circular economy transitions.

In conclusion, adopting a circular economy is essential for achieving global net-zero goals and is a critical strategy for enhancing resource efficiency as humanity grapples with the depletion of Earth's natural assets. By contributing research on these related topics, authors help clarify pathways to a sustainable future at the foundational research level and provide guidance to policymakers in establishing reasonable and practical regulations.
