Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Realizing sustainable development for the entirety of society requires full-process and multi-domain cooperation and participation, with environmental monitoring and ecological restoration being important components. With the introduction of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly Sustainable Development Goals 14 and 15 (SDG 14 and 15), the restoration of ecosystems such as land and oceans has been identified as an important component of global sustainable development efforts. The United Nations launched the "A Decade of Action" in 2021, committed to encouraging the international community to accelerate the protection and restoration of ecosystems, build healthier ecosystems, and jointly achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. The European Parliament has voted to pass the EU nature restoration law, which sets out the goal of implementing restoration measures for 20% of the EU's terrestrial and marine ecosystems by 2030, ultimately covering all ecosystems that require restoration by 2050. Ecological environment monitoring is an important means for humans to understand the environment, study the environment, manage the environment, and even solve global environmental problems. Carrying out environmental monitoring and assessment is a prerequisite for effectively solving environmental problems. Through the collection, analysis, and interpretation of environmental monitoring data, people can understand the current situation and changing trends of various environmental indicators. This not only provides a scientific basis for the formulation of environmental protection policies but also helps to promote the rational utilization of resources and the development of environmental protection technologies.

This Special Issue will publish high-quality papers, outlining the theoretical and/or practical aspects of integrating environmental monitoring and ecological restoration into sustainable development in society. In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • New advances in environmental monitoring technology;
  • New technologies for ecosystem restoration;
  • Environmental assessment;
  • The sustainable management of pollutants;
  • Remote sensing applications to land cover and water environment monitoring;
  • Environmental monitoring technologies for emerging pollutants;
  • Policy analysis.

I look forward to receiving your contributions.
