Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The transition toward sustainable food systems is a central challenge of the 21st century, requiring integrated strategies that balance productivity, environmental stewardship, social equity, and economic viability. As global food systems grapple with challenges such as climate change, resource inefficiency, food loss and waste, and inequitable access, there will be continue to be a pressing need for transformative approaches that promote resilience and circularity. This Special Issue aims to advance scholarly and practical understanding of how innovations in production, processing, distribution, and consumption can collectively promote sustainability across the food value chain. In this Special Issue, we invite scholarly contributions that explore emerging technologies, policy frameworks, behavioral interventions, and interdisciplinary models that drive systemic transformation. This Special Issue will build on the existing literature on sustainable agriculture, food system transformation, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, offering a platform for novel insights and actionable solutions that bridge research, practice, and policy across disciplines and scales, from local initiatives to global governance. By highlighting novel approaches, empirical insights, and critical syntheses, we aim to inform actionable pathways toward resilient, equitable, and sustainable food futures.
