Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Sustainability invites outstanding research papers for our upcoming symposium on "Sustainable Procurement Strategies for a Resilient Future". As climate change and supply chain challenges intensify, government procurement practices must evolve beyond cost efficiency and rigid administrative practices through strategic adaptation aimed toward prioritizing systemic sustainability and community resiliency. We welcome research papers examining how public sector procurement can simultaneously advance sustainability policy objectives (environmental, economic, social, political, and human) while enhancing governmental capacity to withstand, adapt to, and recover from singular and multidimensional crises. Topics may address the following areas: Normative and green purchasing paradigms: Analyses of circular economy implementation in public procurement, climate adaptation through procurement innovation, and public procurement processes that advance or hinder human development, including assessing other public values. Evidence-based frameworks in public policy: Evaluations of policies and processes that incentivizes resilient supply chains and sustainability, presentations of case studies, comparative analyses, and evidence-based frameworks that demonstrate measurable improvements in government resilience through procurement sustainability transformation. Balancing digital transformation with sustainable processes: Critiques of technological transformation including the use of generative AI, advancements in civic technologies promoting public procurement arenas, and lessons learned working in innovative procurement offices. This symposium aims to catalyze cross-sectoral dialogue among researchers, procurement officials, policymakers, and sustainability practitioners to accelerate the transition toward procurement practices that strengthen governmental resilience in an increasingly interconnected world while promoting sustainability. We welcome all contributions aligning with the overarching theme of the symposium. We are interested in comparative studies, all sector and global contexts, diverse methodological approaches and empirical studies, and evidence-based work that is theoretically grounded in an ongoing effort to bridge scholarship and practice. Submitted manuscripts undergo a blind peer-review process. Manuscripts should be submitted by June 2026 and comply with Sustainability's submission guidelines. The symposium is expected to be available June 2025. Please contact section managing editors Sirapong Tengpavadee (tengpavadee@mdpi.com) at Sustainability for submission questions. Co-Editors welcome questions regarding the symposium issue: Drs. Clifford McCue (cmccue@fau.edu); Eric Prier (eprier@fau.edu); and Emily Boykin (emboykin@augusta.edu). I/We look forward to receiving your contributions.
