Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The global energy landscape is undergoing a transformative shift toward sustainability, driven by the urgent need to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, and integrate renewable energy sources. Heat transfer plays a crucial role in this transition, influencing the performance and sustainability of energy systems in diverse applications, from industrial processes to residential heating and cooling. Advancements in heat transfer technologies can significantly enhance energy conversion efficiency, reduce waste heat, and enable the more effective utilization of renewable energy sources.

This Special Issue of Sustainability, titled “Research on Heat Transfer and Sustainable Energy Systems”, aims to bring together cutting-edge research in heat transfer mechanisms, innovative materials, and novel energy system designs that contribute to sustainability. The focus will be on fundamental studies and applied research that advance sustainable energy solutions through improved thermal management. We welcome contributions exploring theoretical, experimental, and computational approaches to heat transfer phenomena, as well as studies that integrate sustainable practices into energy-intensive sectors.

Key topics of interest for this Special Issue include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Advanced heat transfer technologies for energy-efficient systems.
  • Waste heat recovery and utilization.
  • Sustainable cooling and heating solutions.
  • Heat transfer in renewable energy systems (solar, geothermal, biomass, etc.).
  • Thermal energy storage for improved energy efficiency.
  • Heat flux measurement and modeling for optimized energy use.
  • Emerging materials and coatings for enhanced thermal performance.
  • Smart thermal management strategies for industrial and residential applications.

By compiling high-quality research from experts in the field, this Special Issue aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and contribute to the development of innovative and sustainable energy solutions. We invite researchers, engineers, and practitioners to submit their latest findings and share their insights on how heat transfer science and technology can drive sustainability in energy systems.

We look forward to receiving contributions that will shape the future of sustainable energy through advanced heat transfer research.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
