Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Hybrid AC/DC microgrids represent a promising architecture for integrating diverse energy resources and addressing the growing complexity of modern power systems. This special issue aims to explore cutting-edge developments in hybrid microgrid technologies that seamlessly incorporate renewable energy sources, advanced energy storage systems, and emerging power conversion technologies. The focus encompasses novel control strategies, power management algorithms, and system architectures that optimize the complementary advantages of both AC and DC subsystems while ensuring system stability, reliability, and efficiency.
This issue builds upon existing literature by addressing critical gaps in the integration of new energy resources within hybrid frameworks. While previous research has largely focused on either AC or DC microgrids independently, this special issue emphasizes the synergistic operation of hybrid systems, particularly in the context of emerging technologies such as vehicle-to-grid systems, hydrogen storage, and advanced battery technologies. Special attention will be given to innovative solutions for power quality improvement, fault management, and resilience enhancement in hybrid configurations, as well as standardization and interoperability challenges in mixed AC/DC environments.
The global transition toward sustainable energy systems has highlighted the critical role of microgrids in accommodating diverse energy resources and ensuring reliable power distribution. Hybrid AC/DC architectures have emerged as a particularly promising solution, offering unique advantages in integrating renewable energy sources, energy storage systems, and modern loads. With the rapid advancement of power electronics and control technologies, there is an urgent need to address the challenges and opportunities in this evolving field.
This special issue aims to compile cutting-edge research contributions that advance our understanding of hybrid microgrid systems and their integration with emerging energy technologies. We seek to explore innovative solutions that enhance system efficiency, reliability, and resilience while facilitating the seamless incorporation of diverse energy resources.
Suggested themes include, but are not limited to:
Novel control strategies and power management algorithms for hybrid AC/DC microgrids
Integration of advanced energy storage systems (batteries, supercapacitors, hydrogen) in hybrid configurations

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
