Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue focuses on the design and planning of future urban environments, emphasizing the crucial synergy between clean energy mobility solutions and universal design principles. Its central tenet is that by strategically integrating these elements, cities can become both environmentally sustainable and socially equitable, fostering a strong sense of belonging and seamless accessibility for all inhabitants. Its core emphasis lies in the considered development of the built environment and its interconnected mobility systems.

The interdisciplinary scope of this Special Issue encompasses the urban planning and implementation of diverse sustainable transportation options, the broad application of universal design across both mobility infrastructure and urban spaces, and the development of accessible pedestrian and cycling networks alongside inclusive public transport. It further investigates the role of smart technologies in optimizing accessible mobility and examines the policy and governance frameworks necessary to drive this transformative agenda. Crucially, it delves into how well-designed mobility and urban spaces can foster social inclusion and provides real-world case studies and future-oriented visions.

The primary purpose of this collection is to advance the understanding of the dynamic relationship between clean energy mobility, universal design, and the creation of inclusive, sustainable cities. It aims to serve as a comprehensive resource for researchers, policymakers, urban planners, and designers, highlighting best practices and inspiring innovative solutions. By emphasizing integrated planning that prioritizes both environmental responsibility and social equity, this Special Issue seeks to foster an interdisciplinary dialogue on the challenges and opportunities inherent in building welcoming and environmentally sound urban futures for everyone.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
