Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue of Sustainability, “Energy Security in the Context of a Sustainable Economy,” seeks to advance scholarly understanding of the interdependencies between energy security and sustainable economic development. The focus is on attracting conceptual and empirical analyses that examine how secure, resilient, and low-carbon energy systems can underpin long-term economic sustainability goals. The scope encompasses research on energy policy, technological innovation, market mechanisms, governance frameworks, and the socio-environmental dimensions of energy transitions and how they affect durable and human-centric development.
The purpose of this Special Issue is to converge diverse disciplinary perspectives to address emerging challenges in balancing energy security, economic competitiveness, and environmental protection and sustainability. It aims to supplement the existing literature by linking traditional energy security studies with contemporary sustainability frameworks, thereby offering new insights into the dynamics of energy transition under conditions of global uncertainty, geopolitical shifts, and globally undertaken climate commitments. Interdisciplinary approaches, bridging segmented fields of study and work, are very much relevant to the aims and objectives of this Special Issue. Contributions that bridge theory and practice, provide specific case studies and empirical analysis, or that provide cross-country or sectoral comparisons are particularly encouraged.
