Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Wetlands are distributed widely in both natural and artificial environments.

Wetlands are among the most productive ecosystems in the world, and provide a range of ecosystem services, including water purification, flood regulation, carbon sequestration, storm surge protection, ecotourism, biodiversity support, and cultural values. These valuable functions are the result of the unique natural characteristics of wetlands and the normal relationship with their surrounding environments. However, the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands reported in 2018 that 35 percent of wetlands have been lost since 1970, at a rate three times greater than that of forests. Wetland restoration requires a thorough understanding of the ecosystem dynamics, functioning works and the environmental requirements. Understanding the underlying fundamental connections between hydrological, ecological, and biogeochemical factors greatly increases the chance for success of created and restored wetlands. Wetland restoration should develop clear, achievable and measurable goals and be conducted with an integrative approach and technology. The wise use of wetlands introduces economic and financial incentives to wetland conservation, to ensure participation of all stakeholders in wetland management, and to improve wetland inventories and tracking at scale.

We are inviting research articles and reviews dealing with all aspects of Wetland Environment, Restoration, and Wise Use, and their relationships. Papers on theoretical approaches, field and laboratory experiments as well as studies in non-manipulated ecosystems are welcome. The aim of this Special Issue is to substantially deepen our understanding of Wetland Environment, Restoration, and Wise Use in a changing world.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
