Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue of the journal Separations addresses the theme of the pharmaceutical extraction and application of phytochemicals, emphasizing the relevance of this area in the development of new medicines. The extraction of these compounds is a fundamental process, and this Special Issue explores different methods, such as solvent extraction, distillation, and more advanced techniques, such as chromatography and supercritical CO2 extraction. Each method is detailed in terms of its efficiency, costs, and preservation of phytochemical properties. The pharmaceutical application of phytochemicals is an expanding field, and this Special Issue aims to discuss how these compounds have been used in the evolution of natural medicines, herbal medicines, and even cosmetic products. The importance of preclinical research in a clinic to ensure the safety and efficacy of these compounds is emphasized. This Special Issue also highlights collaborations between different areas of knowledge, such as pharmacology, chemistry, biotechnology, and food engineering, to advance this science. The importance of phytochemicals in the development of innovative medicines is undeniable, as they offer therapeutic alternatives by expanding treatment options for various health conditions. Finally, this Special Issue highlights the prospects for the extraction and application of phytochemicals, responding to the increase in demand for natural therapies and the constant evolution of extraction and production technologies, aiming at the production of new drugs that can benefit human health more effectively and affordably.
