Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The rapid development of vehicular technologies will impact the future evolution of the Internet of things (IoT). This includes improvements in traditional applications of road safety and the dissemination of road information, as well as on-board services, such as in-vehicle state detection, driving aid systems, and even self-driving vehicles. In this environment, sensors, especially, play a vital role in vehicular automation and generating and communicating data in vehicles to allow vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication, as well as being placed on roadsides to enable vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) network architectures. Indeed, as we anticipate a future of “connected cars”, how to provide a reliable and seamless transfer of wireless data while coping with the high velocity/large density of vehicles will be the key to realizing future vehicular applications and services. This Special Issue will focus on state-of-the-art research dedicated to wireless/mobile network technologies, with the utilization of sensing data for automation and data analysis in vehicular applications. The approved topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Advances in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs);
  • Sensor communications (V2V/V2I/in-vehicular);
  • Opportunistic forwarding/routing in VANETs;
  • Self-organizing sensor systems for future vehicles;
  • Co-existence of DSRC (IEEE 802.11bd, 5G NR) for future vehicles;
  • Blockchain-empowered sensor networks for future vehicles;
  • Data security (fragmentation/trust-based forwarding);
  • Architecture and protocols for AI/ML-enabled future vehicles;
  • AI/ML-enabled sensor networks for connected and autonomous driving;
  • Prediction-based data processing;
  • Vehicular mobility/network analysis;
  • Simulation tools and performance evaluation techniques for future vehicles.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
