Sensors and Control in Robotics

A section of Robotics (ISSN 2218-6581).

Section Information

Sensors serve as the interface between robotic systems and the environment in which they operate. They are indispensable tools in providing essential and timely feedback.

The focus of this Section is on the design, development, and integration of exteroceptive sensors for the control of robotic systems, ranging from industrial manipulators to autonomous robots.

Topics addressed in this section include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Force, tactile, proximity, visual, and auditory sensors;
  • Computer-vision for robotic applications;
  • Wireless sensor networks;
  • Real-time data collection and signal processing;
  • Sensor fusion and data fusion;
  • Integrating sensors with machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI);
  • Closed-loop robot motion planning and control strategies, including visual servoing;
  • Localization, mapping, and navigation.
