Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The Special Issue “Psychology and the Olympic Games” will explore the intersection between athletic performance and the psychological aspects that influence Olympic athletes. This Special Issue will address key topics such as mental preparation for elite competition, stress and pressure management, and psychological strategies used to optimize performance under extreme circumstances. Additionally, it will examine the impacts of factors such as resilience, motivation, and team cohesion on Olympic success. Further, studies on the influence of athlete identity, injury management, and post-Olympic transition may also be included. Likewise, mental well-being topics will also be covered, such as burnout prevention, the treatment of psychological disorders, and the role of social and psychological support in athletes’ careers. Thus, this compendium will of provide a comprehensive overview how psychology contributes to the success and well-being of athletes in the Olympic Games, offering a platform to discuss recent advances in applied research and providing recommendations for coaches, sports psychologists, and athletes seeking to maximize their potential on the world's most important sports stage.
